About Darla Chase
Our cottage is our "Happy Place". I ordinally purchased the cottage in 2011 and knew instantly that this would be the place that would always bring me peace when I needed it. When I met my partner in crime, Esteban, and introduced him to the "River"; he was on the tail end of his 34 year military career to our country. He too instantly fell in love with the "River" and the peace that he found there. It was his idea to begin renting the cottage, so we could make updates and improvements. It is our goal, when I retire as a social worker, to live at the cottage for the warm months and snowbird for the cold months... perhaps southwest. We hope that those who rent it enjoy their time they spend here and are able to create beautiful long lasting memories.
Darla Chase purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Darla Chase chose Clayton
The cottage is conviently located to many attractions, wonderful resturants and beautiful sunsets. We have floating docks, so water levels are not a problem; wether high or low. While rustic, we try keep it warm and welcoming. Making improvements yearly.
Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
Paradise in the 1000 Islands
Everything about the cottage was fantastic. Great location, awesome deck right on the water, and a beautiful view. The private floating dock providing easy access to the river was great. The cottage had all the amenities you need, and the cable TV came in handy on one stormy night. I would definitely stay here again.
The positives are location and view.
The negatives are plenty, but foremost was the inadequate electrical system that was unable to support the several electrical space heaters and just about anything else. You could warm bedrooms, and you could warm kitchen and sunroom, but not at the same time. When the bedroom heaters were running, you could not have any other power draw, not even a light, or the breaker for that portion of the cottage would trip.
In addition, there were no smoke detectors nor fire extinguishers.
The next issue that caused problems for us, was the overpowering smell of mothball crystals found in the bottom of the kitchen trash can. One of our party vomited and another developed a migraine that lasted days.
Other negative issues include; though noted as having them in the listing, there was no washer nor dryer. The owner assured us a refund on a pet fee when we decided not to bring the pet, we have not yet received the refund. It’s more than a month since the promise was made. Other negatives could be listed, but these are the ones that make it hard to recommend this as a place to stay, particularly when it is cold enough outside that you want heat on the inside.
Prior to the renters arrival, they were told that the cottage was heated with electic heaters. Carrie did reach out to us about the breakers tripping when the heaters were on at the beginning of their stay. We had someone go to the cottage and check for safety issues and the renters were advised not to run all the heaters at once (They were running 5 heaters at a time). It was recomended that they shut the bedroom doors during the day and run the heaters in the bedrooms at night. The family stayed for a week and we did not hear of any other complaints for the remainder of their stay.
There are smoke detectors in each bedroom as well as a fire ext. under the sink in the kitchen. (per documented)
The washer and dryer is an addittion for 2019 renters and was told to the renters prior to renting, as well as other upgrades that are currently being completed.
Prior to arriving, we were told that the renters were not going to be bringing their dog.
Upon returning from our own vacation and going to the cottage after the renters stay; we found our cottage not only very dis-sheveled, items broken, but also evidence that a pet had been in the cottage.
We have never had a bad review before and pride ourselves in trying to provide not only a positive but an affordable, comfortable home for our guests to enjoy.
We are sorry that Carrie and her family did not have such an experience.
Perfect location with a great view
My dad and I went on a fishing trip at the beginning of October and this cottage exceeded all of our expectations. The kitchen and sunroom looked right out into the beautiful st. Lawrence river, it was a perfect setting to wake up with a cup of coffee and watch the big ships pass by. There is a big deck and a nice floating dock where we were able to park the boat that we rented. We had a fantastic weekend and will be back again.
We are so happy you were pleased with the cottage.
Hope you were able to catch some fish!!
We look forward to having you as guests again.
Amenities of home but with a better view
Comfortable home equipped with everything you need; fantastic deck for dining out & watching sunsets; and the WiFi allowed me get some work done (and I'd rather be there than at my desk any day). I would definitely stay again.
So happy you enjoyed your stay!!
I get some of my best work done while I watch the River!!
Hope to have you as a guest again.
Awesome views. Quiet, relaxing, kitchen faces sunroom, deck, dock, and river. Love to go back.
Rented a boat and having at your own dock was great.
Hope to have you as a guest again
Serene and Beautiful Location
We recently spent a few days celebrating a family reunion. My wife and I and 2 of my adult children, with their spouses spent a long weekend at the cottage. The cottage is in a lovely location, right on the river with its own dock. There are 3 bedrooms, and eat-in kitchen, sun room and living room. We spent most of our time in the sun room due to its airiness and beautiful view. The cottage came complete with linens and towels. The kitchen had everything we needed though to be honest we only ate breakfast. Parking is limited to 3 vehicles. I would definitely use again.
The sunroom is my favorite room.
Especially in the morning with a good cup of tea. I love to sit there and watch the River wake up!!!
Hope to have you as guests again
