About the property

Studio, Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Get out of the fog and into the sun. Enjoy the year-round mild climate and central location of San Rafael, with effortless access to San Francisco to the south (twenty-five minutes across the world famous Golden Gate Bridge), the spectacular wine country of Napa, Sonoma, and Alexander Valleys (forty minutes), and Berkeley (thirty minutes).

Easy access in and out of San Francisco by ferry, bus or car. Enjoy a full day in 'The City' and recharge your batteries (with a good night sleep and a soak in the hot tub) for a day of wine tasting in the Napa Valley.

Our home is located in a quiet, upscale neighborhood. This attached in-law unit features many amenities and unique privacy. Enjoy a semi-private swimming pool, hot tub, and deck, featuring nearly three-hundred-sixty-degree views of the Bay and Mt. Tamalpais. Less than fifty yards away is a hiking trail in a eucalyptus forest, with views of San Francisco in the distance.

Marin County offers beaches, golf, hiking, and biking. (Mountain biking was 'invented' on Mt. Tam.) Local scenery includes breathtaking vistas of Mount Tam, and the ancient redwood forests of Muir Woods, sightseeing in Sausalito and Tiburon, and much more. It features restaurants to fit every budget and culinary taste, as well as, excellent theatre, cinema, and shopping.

San Rafael, home of the 2nd most northern and oldest Catholic mission (founded 1817), also features a civic center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and a refurbished art deco theater in a revitalized downtown.

Your genial and knowledgeable host and hostess will help with plans (if requested) to make your vacation memorable.

A perfect base from which to savor the best of Northern California!

This was just what we were looking for. A nice apartment with a full kitchen to stay in. Mark and Judi were very helpful with any questions about the area and where and what to do. We had privacy but they were there if we need something. Our only wish was for a place with a king size bed, this is very hard to find but we made too and it worked out. Also, this was not an issue for us, but there are many stairs to get in and out of the apartment and down to to the pool area some people might have a problem with that. On that note there is a beautiful trail right up the road, we spent many hours there walking the numerous trails and enjoying the views.

Tranquil getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our Family spent 12 days in the San Francisco area and happily we spent our first few days here in San Rafael. It was such an ordeal trying to find a place until our cousin told us to try VRBO. I did and came upon this gem. It was the first time my husband tried accommodations like this so I was very hopeful he would be pleased. He was! I also was pleased. Mark was very nice and helpful thru the whole process. I know I asked a lot of questions and he was very patient with me. The "Cottage" as they call it is attached to the main home but does have a separate entrance. So you feel as though it's your own little apartment. They had everything you would need and the bath soaps were lovely. The beds were comfy and the linens clean and soft. The View was so beautiful. It was the best view we had thru the whole trip next to "Half Dome" in Yosemite. And after our long days of adventure in San Francisco it was good to come back to the comforts of our cottage in the hills. Our sons goal was to swim in the pool but only had the opportunity to do so on our last day, only because we were busy every other day. It is a bit of a ways up to the property but once there, it is quiet and peaceful. The town below has some great restaurants our favorite was "Teresa's and Johnny's" on 4th st. Mark was also very kind to send out by mail our sons charger for his laptop that he had left behind. It was unfortunate I didn't meet Judi on our trip but perhaps the next time we come thru town. I would recommend this rental highly you cant go wrong, hope your travels are happy ones.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My 10yo son and I stayed in Mark and Judi's studio for 2 weeks while we attended the Anat Baniel Centre in San Rafael. What a beautiful spot, with views over the valley behind and lovely walks just up the road. Everything we needed and more was provided and our hosts were lovely - even giving my son some books for the plane ride home. And the banana bread...mmmmm. The separate kitchen was brilliant and had everything we needed. Same with the bathroom; even down to a hair curler! There was plenty of tourist information available and books and games for quiet afternoons. Thanks Mark and Judi for making our stay so easy and enjoyable. I hope we have the chance to come again.

Hillside Stay in beautiful Marin!

  • 5 of 5

What a superb location, wonderful apartment and perfect hosts. My husband and I spent 4 weeks in this very comfortable studio, which was much larger than we expected having a cozy sitting area, separate from the beds. With a desk and very comfortable loveseat and armchairs we were not relegated to the bed for seating. The apt has just lots of light, all day, which was my favorite thing. Good windows! The kitchen was good sized, in a separate room and well stocked for as much cooking as we wished to do. Provided to us were even a small cooler and shopping bags. Judi and Mark are very thoughtful in providing for just about all one's needs while away from home. The bathroom, by the way, was good sized too. So, staying here for 4 weeks was very easy.

The location is heavenly, high above the Marin hills with lovely views. From the apt, one could lay in bed and see the sun come up over the Oakland Bay Bridge with beautiful city and bridge lights at night. And the Bay area fog came and went, just enough to show us its beauty as it rolls in. ALL seen from this magnificent apartment perched on a hillside. Very close is quick walking access to amazing Marin trails, with spectacular views to Mt. Tam, The Marin Civic Center and the North Bay. This was a wonderful surprise and offered easy, mostly level, walking or running.

Judi and Mark were a great host and hostess. They respected our privacy completely but stayed fully accessible as we needed. Gave us great information (grocery stores, events, restaurants and wines) and made us feel welcome. They made us feel comfortable with the use of the decks, pool and jacuzzi- which we really used. The deck off the apartment is very much for the use of the guests exclusively.

This San Rafael location is great. The apt feels like it is "away from it all" away but it is so very close to all the places one might wish to visit- both north and south. 30 minutes to San Francisco, 30 minutes to Petaluma, 10 minutes to the amazing Marin farmers market, and 45 minutes to the coast. Just could not have been better located.

The apt is clean and well maintained The bed was very comfortable and the apt well equipped with lights for night-time reading.

I think that for the money this is a superb spot to stay and recommend it highly.

We would definitely return to this spot should the opportunity to visit the Bay Area occur again.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

This property was fabulous we were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and coffee beans for our enjoyment. The views were awesome daytime and nighttime. The owners thought of everything you would need for your stay. We enjoyed the quiet central location and the apartment itself had nice furnishings and the kitchen was well equipped as well.

The cooler came in handy that was at the door ready for our day trips.

We also enjoyed swimming in the pool and a couple of nights we used the hot tub under the stars. We certainly recommend this property if you are planning to stay in the San Rafael Area.
