Perfect Place to Relax , Reconnect and Recharge
We are now a family of 5 adults giving this place an A+. What a blessing this place was to our family as it is infrequent that we all can be together due to distance (PA & MI). The cottage had everything that we needed to do that. The dock at the property's end was a perfect place to read, relax, boat and swim. The historic cabin on the property gave us the feel of yesteryear when our daughters watched the Parent Trap. The wooded area also gave us shade and enjoyment. The close distance to Lake Michigan is perfect. We even kayaked from our dock to the Big Lake. The area is also perfect for running (to Lake Michigan!!!). The lawn in front of the cabin gave us enough room to play lawn games.
The cabin itself was roomy enough for all of us to have space and enjoy games together. The ONLY thing that I would recommend is to have stronger lighting in both the dining and living area. When it was dark outside, it was difficult to read, play games, etc. well.
We enjoyed exploring Monteague and Whitehall with the soda fountain and ice cream shops as well as shopping the General Store in Whitehall. The folks at Water Dog Outfitters were extremely helpful when we rented paddle boards and kayaks.
We are hoping to return!
Great family vacation on the lake!
Our family of 5 had a great time at Duck Lake this summer. The cottage had everything we needed, was clean, and well stocked. We enjoyed grilling out and eating on the patio. There were quite a number of stairs to get to the lake but that seems to be true of most places in Michigan. At the lake front, there was a nice fire pit with comfortable chairs and a view of the sunset that can't be beat! Our kids enjoyed the private pier and caught many fish and loved swimming too. We brought our canoe and enjoyed the quiet beauty of the lake. There is a small canal under a bridge that connects Duck Lake to Lake Michigan that we were able to navigate in the canoe. A bigger boat might not make it. There is a short drive to a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan and great hiking in the state park across the lake. We tried the Old Channel Inn restaurant recommended by the owners and had a great dinner. The location is quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay!
Peaceful and Relaxing Family Vacation
The cottage was perfect! There were 4 adults and 2 children and we had plenty of room. It felt like a quintessential MI lake vacation with an adorable cottage (cool nights with a bonfire and smores, fishing off the dock, walking along lake MI watching the sunset, climbing sand dunes, kayaking, family game night). The kids (and some adults) especially enjoyed fishing off the dock (they caught some really big bass). There were board games and books to keep us busy when it rained one morning. The location couldn't be better. A three minute (or less) drive to Duck Lake State park (Lake MI access and free parking along the shoulder of the road) and steps (down a bluff) to Duck Lake. We rented kayaks and kayaked out to Lake MI one day. It was a little chilly (early June), so we didn't swim. The dock had steps that would have made swimming possible (it was shallow by the dock--maybe 3-4 feet), although there was some seaweed that may have deterred some in our party. Although there were neighbors they were far enough away (and hidden behind trees) that it felt like we were in the woods by ourselves (lots of privacy). Rhonda was very welcoming and helpful. Overall I would highly recommend--a perfect, fun-filled and relaxing vacation. We hope to go back next year.
We are so happy you enjoyed your visit to our area and Fox Glove Cottage.
We would love to have you stay with us again!
Quiet, private, ..... Serene!
This house is by a lake and in a wooded area. It was very quiet and we enjoyed privacy.
Clean and specious rooms. Enough sitting arrangement out side; front and back of the house.
I used the bathroom between two bedrooms. I wished it had a small shelf for toiletries and a hook for hanging cloth.
Most power outlets are for two pronged plug and we worried if we could not charge our computers. Then we found outlet for three pronged plug; one in each bathroom.
Great location, nice house for my parents and our family of 3.
We loved being close to many options for activities and being right on the lake!
