This home was built by my grandparents in 1904. I lived there in my childhood and then restored the family home years later.
Although this home has been renovated, I kept many of the original features that carry guests back in time. For example, some ceilings are constructed of wormy chestnut wood; the stairs are narrow; the pantry ceiling is lower. Several antique furniture pieces remain there for your enjoyment. Truly, many guests have called this house 'charming.'
When I visit The Wilson House, my favorite spots include a fire pit area in the back yard, the front porch swing, the front yard's deck, and a cool spot under a huge sugar maple tree in the front yard.
The Wilson House was absolutely wonderful! It was very clean and well kept and incredibly unique! The views were stunning and Mary was a most welcoming and gracious host! We had such a wonderful time staying there and will stay there again in the future if we are in the area!
We stayed at the Wilson House for 5 days and had one of the best vacations ever. There is so much to say about it we couldn't squeeze it all in this one little review...to read a full review read here
We stayed at the beautiful Wilson House for five days in early July with our three kids (8, 6, 3), and it was perfect. We loved walking the back fields and woods and having a fire with smores every night! I didn't even realize we were so close to the Jackson River--one of my dream trout streams--it's basically just down the road. We visited The Homestead, Douthat State Park (recommended), and the Greenbriar (which is a bit of drive, but beautiful).
This July was our second visit to the Wilson House so I knew what to expect and of course was not disappointed. One of the things I really love about the house is it's authentic restoration and preservation. It retains the charm of a rustic working farm house while offering totally modern comfort and amenities. The setting is beautiful with a sweeping view of the valley and neighboring farms. Watching the weather come over the mountains and up and down the valley can be spectacular. The nights are cool, quiet and dark! For me it's a perfect antidote to all the trials that city living can and does offer up. I always leave looking forward to the next visit.
Located in one of the most stunningly beautiful counties in Virginia, the Wilson Farmhouse offers an amazing combination of solitude and incredible vistas. Full of amenities, enjoy a fire in the backyard while witnessing the night sky as you've never seen it - without light pollution! My family and I absolutely love this place. You won't be disappointed.
Location - great
Owner (Mary)- great
My family all agreed that our stay at the Wilson House was one of our best vacations ever. Just imagine you get a huge farmhouse and all that land all to yourself! Pretty cool, especially for a city guy. We're fortunate that Mary is willing to make it available to us and at such a reasonable price. We could say a lot more but if the secret gets out we may have too much competition the next time we go to reserve it!
