St. Croix, originally Santa Cruz, was discovered by Columbus on his second voyage to the New World. It is one of three U.S .Virgin Islands. You can get there with a U.S. Drivers License (No passport required yet) and use American currency. Called the "Wayward Virgin" St Croix is located 40 miles southwest of the island chain and is rarely visited by cruise ships as are the other islands. Peaceful and serene, the island is 25 miles long and five miles wide with a tropical rainforest at one end and a desert at the other. Christiansted is one of the most quaint towns in the Caribbean, with its covered walk-ways, buildings, Fort and Governor's Palace all built with brick from Denmark carried for ballast on incoming ships. The tropical waters around St. Croix are home to Buck Island National Park, a day sail away with beautiful beaches and fantastic coral reefs to snorkel and explore. (Call Capt. Heinz at 340.718.3161). Davis Bay is a worldwide destination for scuba divers who come to dive the Puerto Rican Trench and its black coral beauty. The island has ruins of 150 windmills and great plantations, including Whim Greathouse Museum, open to the public. We also have fine dining in a host of restaurants, great shops, a botanical garden, world class golf courses, a casino, kayaking, horseback riding, and body and wind surfing. Home to Cruzan Rum -- voted the best rum in the world -- and Captain Morgan, you can visit their factories and see how rum is made as well as take back 6 bottles of booz, duty free as long as one of them is rum!

About Rob Hartmann
My family have been in St Croix since the early 60's and I spent every holiday and summer in St. Croix growing up and so did my two boys. My Mother spent her last year's there after my father passed away, and so we named it Roberta's Rest in her honor. She's the one who decorated it with antiques from the family farm in Illinois and antique wicker from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. where we live now. I have been fortunate to have traveled and lived abroad and I love sharing the island with people as it is one of the best kept secrets in the world!
Rob Hartmann purchased this Condo in 1968
Why Rob Hartmann chose Estate La Grande Princess
This is not just a rental space: it is home to my family. My parents were the first owners in the Cruzan Princesse Condominium. Before it was built, my Dad said to the developer "I will buy this unit out front if the building sticks out further than all the rest so I can have a 180 degree, unobstructed view of the ocean." The developer complied and so we have the best unit in the condo. My Dad was a Navy Captain and he loved the feeling he got in the condo of being on a ship! He could look out at the ocean from his desk, the dinner table, his bed, or from almost every place in the apartment. There are still some Nautical touches to be found.
What makes this Condo unique
You can't get any closer to the ocean and the view is spectacular. You can see boats sailing out to Buck Island every day and when you have a full moon, it is breathtaking! See the photos! St. Croix is part of United States Virgin Islands so all U.S. laws and currency apply! Your U.S. Driver's License is all you need to travel here and to drive a car. (FYI, you have to be 23 on the island in order to rent a car!).

Great location right on the ocean!
This is a lovely, clean, and well-located condo in St. Croix. We especially enjoyed the balcony overlooking the ocean where we spent a lot of time. The interior is comfortable and the kitchen is very well-stocked thus making meal prep a breeze. The beach is quite nice and accessible. The complex exterior is very attractive with a convenient swimming pool for the residents. We would definitely stay here again.
A Beautiful stay at Roberta's Rest
The photos and description of condo and surroundings are spot on. The owner , Rob, and manger are helpful and responsive to questions. It is a great vacation area if you love the Caribbean waters, tropical breezes, colorful flowers and birds, Crucian cuisine(try the callaloo), and Cruzan Rum!
