About Melina Bridges

As natives to the west coast, we fell in love with Asheville the summer of 2014 when we first visited. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, we loved the familiar shades of green surrounding us but the mountain sunshine was the trigger that led us to eventually pack up our Oregon home and head east. It took us a year to complete the renovations on our bungalow and another year to leave our former jobs in education to make Asheville our long-term home. We have happily lived on Montford Avenue for the past year and reluctantly moved just a few weeks ago to a larger home in West Asheville while our youngest daughter completes her high school years. We miss the friendly Montford neighborhood and have no doubt that we will return to live in our bungalow.

Melina Bridges purchased this house in 2014

Why Melina Bridges chose Historic Montford

After I visited Asheville with my oldest daughter, I felt as if caught under its spell of enchantment. Just two months after my initial visit, my husband and I came together to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. This is when we surprisingly stumbled upon our bungalow. Although in need of love and restoration, we knew it was the perfect house for us. Light and bright, our favorite east/west exposure, a lively and engaging neighborhood just a short walk to downtown, yet offering the tranquility we needed for peace of mind and a good night's sleep. We call it "The Rose of Sharon Bungalow" in honor of Bryan's mother whose love and support helped us realize our dream to refurbish our home and make the move from Oregon to Asheville.

What makes this house unique

We love the vintage feel of Montford. The homes are lovely and historically preserved in an effort to keep time from moving forward. You will notice many grand houses in the neighborhood, including several lovely Bed and Breakfasts lining Montford Avenue and nearby streets in the neighborhood. We love to sit outside on the porch year round to watch the comings and goings of the lively neighborhood.

Comfortable Convenient Living, steps away from Downtown Asheville, in a wonderful neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2-1/2 months in this wonderful property. It had great amenities, comfortable beds, and was set up beautifully to work remotely while our son was preparing to start college. The Montford neighborhood is full of character and a friendly atmosphere. We were steps from Downtown Asheville, where we walked and dined. We found great entertainment in the area as well. We hope that this home is available when we com back down to visit our son at Mars Hill University.

Excellent Location, great house

  • 5 of 5

This house was very neat and clean. It was well equipped with everything and more. The location was great, short distance on bikes from town and in a cool and quiet historic neighborhood. The Nine mile restaurant across the street is a plus. Sitting and relaxing on the front porch was great. We would definitely rent this place again, Asheville was a great place to visit.

Sunny spotless home in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

If you want to a location that combines charming neighborhood that is still walking (about a mile) distance to downtown then this is an excellent rental for you! My mother rented this charming and spotless bungalow for 6 weeks and adored the home. There are two spacious bedrooms with great bed linens, and a bright bathroom that had been recently renovated. The kitchen has everything you need for making meals, and a convenient washer and dryer off the kitchen. There is plenty of space to relax in the cozy TV room off the kitchen, or in the front living and dining room. The front porch is great for sitting outside. If walking and running are in you vacation plans, you can easily map a long run from the front door, or walk to three neighborhood restaurants and if you don't mind walking further you can get to the downtown with a 15 to 20 minute walk. This home is one of the nicest rental properties you will find in the city of Asheville.

This light and bright filled space was perfect for our time in Asheville. Every detail was well attended and we felt very happy in this clean, inspiring, love filled space. We could tell that the owners have put a lot of care and attention into this newly refurbished home. We wish it was ours and can not imagine a better place to stay than the Rose of Sharen Bungalow. We will be back for sure! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great Location, Everything We Needed

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect place for a relaxing week in Asheville. The location is great- very close to downtown. The renovation is really nice; the house has its original charm but everything is new and updated. Unlike many of the rental experiences I have had, these owners left us everything we needed: nice big bottles of shampoo and conditioner, a few staples in the kitchen, and kleenex throughout (a nice plus in the winter). The beds were very comfortable with nice, cozy sheets. We enjoyed being able to walk across the street for lunch or snacks from the corner store. We hope to return here in the summer and enjoy the front porch swing, the short walk to downtown, and all of the great outdoor activities Asheville has to offer.
