Overview

Calhoun Isles Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Charming 1+ bedroom, 1 bathroom, 650' apt. in the heart of marvelous Uptown Mpls

Welcome to the vibrant, diverse Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis! Located just a few blocks from Lake Calhoun, Lake & Hennepin and Lyn-Lake shopping districts, this charming, non-smoking apartment (located within our duplex home; a 'shotgun' apartment completely self-contained with a separate entrance) is available for rent year round.

Please note that we welcome guests of all ages, nationalities, races, religions (or lack thereof), languages and sexual orientation. No discrimination here, no profiling - just a warm welcome to all!

Relax in the cozy living room, complete with plenty of books and magazines, high-speed wireless internet signal and a small flat-screen television with (very) basic cable for your enjoyment. The photographs picture our gas fireplace, but it's currently not working. An electric fireplace (the plug-in kind with fake but charming flames) is there in its place.

The apartment, which comprises the right half of the main floor of our duplex home, features one full bedroom, a pull-out bed in the living room and a fold-out futon in the sitting/dining room. The serene bedroom features a queen-size bed with new mattress (as of June 2016), 100% cotton sheets and quilts and towels, overhead fan and window air conditioner for the summer months. The sitting/dining room contains a dining nook (seating for four), a children's corner with toys and books, an overhead fan and a fold-down queen-size futon couch. The living room also contains a small double pull-out bed (a Klik-Klak sofa).

The kitchen is fully supplied with pots and pans, dishes, a full-sized refrigerator and gas stove/oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster and utensils. (No dishwasher.) Please note that the kitchen photos are out of date, as we recently replastered and repainted the walls, repainted the cabinets, and refinished the underlying hardwood floor.

The bathroom, while small, contains both tub and shower and a new sink. The apartment has two closets and plenty of drawer space. A hairdryer and plenty of supplies --soap, toilet paper, a first aid kit-- are provided.

On-street parking is almost always available in front of the house, and flower gardens surround both the house and the boulevard in season. We have a small dog who occasionally barks when people enter or exit the house or apartment, but beyond that he's pretty chill.

The Uptown and Lyn-Lake neighborhoods are renowned for their wide variety of restaurants, theaters, movies, shopping (both small indie shops and national branches), grocery stores both upscale and midscale, bars, music and people-watching.

Do you like the great outdoors? You'll be in heaven. Bike trails, walking and running paths, sailing, canoe, kayak, paddleboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, swimming and no fewer than ten gyms and yoga studios are all located within a few blocks.

We are located three blocks in all directions from multiple bus lines, allowing quick access anywhere you wish to go in the metro area.

Minneapolis is a beautiful city year-round, and we invite you to come enjoy it in all seasons. We love sharing our neighborhood with others and would be happy to help you with any questions you might have. Also, there's often something baking in the oven --lemon squares? pound cake? chocolate chip cookies?-- and we're always happy to share.

About The Owner

I am a writer who thrives on the freedom to work wherever I am. What do I love? Travel. Reading. Family and friends. Lively conversation. The great outdoors. Movies, both indie and b-grade blockbusters. Food, lots of it and well-made. Music, music, music and books, books, books. As your host, I will be completely unobtrusive (I myself dislike the hovering host syndrome) but happily available should you need directions, restaurant/shopping recommendations, or walking and biking and running and gym tips. If I'm in a baking mood you might find a basket of cookies hanging from your door.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007

Why The Owner chose Minneapolis

I've lived in the Uptown neighborhood ever since I moved to Minneapolis (from New England) many years ago, and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the city. It's a charming, quirky, unique area in which you can walk and bike or bus anywhere you need to go. I love living in a quiet residential neighborhood three blocks from all the hustle and bustle of Uptown's commercial district.

What makes this apartment unique

I fell in love with our duplex the first moment I looked at it. It's a vintage home with beautiful woodwork everywhere, from gleaming hardwood floors to intricately carved moldings. The gas fireplace, the sunny kitchen and dining room, and the charming front porch (complete with swing) make it a wonderful place year-round.

Lovely quiet spot perfect for families with young children near the heart of uptown

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is everything it's advertised to be - not modern nor fancy but very functional. Know that there is not central air but a few AC units in the apartment for those hot & humid days so for light sleepers like me, the constant on and off of the AC was slightly disruptive. However, I cannot complain as Alison was more than accommodating for the needs for our toddler and surprised us with a signed copy of one of the children's books she wrote! She even printed my matron of honor speech at her home for us. We were very happy staying there, it was great to have our own kitchen and the kids toys and accoutrements were a huge bonus for us.

Uptown cottage apartment

  • 5 of 5

This cottage apartment was perfect for my guest and I in 2 different beds. Loved the charm and cozy feel. The outside gardens were wonderful! We walked a few blocks to get dinner in the uptown area. Always felt safe and comfortable. Many walkers, cyclists. Lake Harriet is a short drive and well worth it!!

Highly recommend staying at this place (several books and games for kids). We will likely be back sometime.

Wonderful Uptown stay in cosy apartment

  • 5 of 5

As our daughter was moving to Uptown, we needed a place to stay while helping her. This was the perfect place! It is close to everything, there is a binder with great recommendations for what to see and do. We followed the advice and were very happy. It is a lovely place, actually more space than we needed. A porch with a swing, then a living room, bed room, a dining room and a well equipped kitchen, a nice bathroom and lovely garden. Try nearby Canteen for breakfast, Isles buns to die for on Hennepin. We would love to come back to Uptown, a Minneapolis gem. If you are in to antiquing, I must plug for the guys at Xcentric in an old White Castle restaurant... This part of town is best experienced on foot, but can you imagine, for an east coast person - this is BIG -parking is abundant everywhere and free. We'll be back soon!

Great Uptown location

  • 5 of 5

We stay for over two weeks at this property, having adult children near by. I was able to enjoy morning walks, and grocery shopping is only blocks away. It is near dining and shopping.

The property is clean and well stocked. A person needs to appreciate the age of the building and the older fixtures. Thanks to the owner for making us feel welcome and making our stay great!

I Loved My Stay In This House

  • 5 of 5

I felt at home in this place. My stay turned out to be a classic Minneapolis Uptown experience. Walked everywhere. Coffee on the stoop in the morning. The house and the neighborhood made for easy entertainment and accommodation of guests. Clean and Cozy and surrounded by art and literature.... awesome. Not for one moment did I feel as if this might turn out to be a sketchy experience. I'll be here again!!

Owner's Response: Richard, we're so glad you loved the apartment! "Coffee on the stoop in the morning" - that's one of the great things about the neighborhood. We would love to host you again on your next visit to Minneapolis. Looking forward to it. Cheers, Alison

Perfect for visiting Uptown

  • 5 of 5

This was perfect for my young kids and I to visit friends and places from our old Uptown neighborhood. Lots of sleeping options, a kitchen and Uptown location made this our choice over a hotel - wifi is available, it was quiet and had a/c when the weather was warmer. We stayed for 2 1/2 weeks and felt safe, comfortable and welcome. So many great places to eat and play nearby. Buses and groceries within walking distance as well.
