About Randi Bakken
Although we have lived here for over 3 years, coming home still feels like being on vacation! We look forward to sharing our cottage with you.
Randi Bakken purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Randi Bakken chose Black Point-Green Point
After living in suburban neighborhoods our whole lives, we never realized how amazing an undisturbed view into nature really is. One look out the window had us convinced we couldn't be anywhere else!
What makes this Cottage unique
The Boathouse has a definite away-from-it-all, country feel - but is still just a few minutes from downtown Novato, Safeway, Target, and Costco.

Perfect for our purpose
There are not a lot of places to stay in the area so The Boathouse was perfect for our needs. It's very private, the kitchen is huge and the view from it is fantastic. The bed is super comfy. While the bathroom is large, it only has a standard (narrow) stall shower. One point to note, as mentioned by the owners and in previous reviews, the staircase to get down to The Boathouse may not be easy for certain people. Randi and Jim couldn't be nicer or more helpful owners.
Thank you Randi and Jim for a lovely restful stay while we were training at the Novato Institute.
Thank you for endeavouring to provide a more continuous internet and for making us welcome. Karen and Brad
Charming house just as advertised
We were a family of 3 and had a very enjoyable stay for 5 nights in Dec. The property was just as advertised with a fully equipped kitchen. Randi was nice enough to get us some essentials since we were arriving on Christmas eve and the stores were going to be closed. Highly recommended!
Clean, quiet, beautiful scenery
So grateful for the hospitality of the hosts! We were lost our first night in San Francisco and Jim not only guided us to the cottage; but when we got there hadn't had anything to eat except nuts & pretzels on the plane. He brought us sandwich makings, milk & cereal for breakfast, yogurt and sparkling water - it was a feast as hungry as we were! The cottage was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. The only downside was that we could not walk out on the dock that you see in the pictures assuming it is part of the cottage. We were there during the record breaking heat and although grateful for the air conditioning; it was very loud when it kicked on. The third night we found a way to prop up the standing fan and turned the air off and aimed the fan at the bed (otherwise, it didn't oscillate properly). Also if the bathroom door is shut all the way, the door and handle sticks and it is hard to get out. It was just me and my husband so not a big deal for us (not worried about someone coming in while using) and we learned not to shut it all the way; but it could probably be fixed with a new handle or door. We couldn't get the grill going and it had cobwebs in it and the beginnings of a wasp or hornet nest so we cooked our steaks and hamburgers inside. All in all - the good outweighed the slightly bad and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! The hosts were very gracious in laundering our towels for us when we ran low.
convenient to winery and trees!
My husband and I had very limited time to visit a few wineries and go to Muir Woods. This rental location was very convenient. We went to 3 wineries and would recommend 2: Hamel Winery/ Sonoma: VERY friendly staff, GORGEOUS views, DELICIOUS sweet wines with a small appetizer as part of the tour. V. Sattui/St. Helena, for no charge they let you pick two wines to taste, then you can buy a bottle, go to their GREAT deli to get small amounts of lots of cheeses, meat and bread and eat/drink at a picnic table outside. Muir Woods was nice, easy walk. Rental was very clean and comfortable. 2 surprises: the dock that is shown is not accessible to renters and very close on left side is a huge overpass with traffic noise. Neither bothered us as we were barely there but we didn't expect this! Owners are right next door but we never saw or heard them. Very quick to reply to questions.
Clean, cozy, and comfortable!
Waking up to a beautiful view every morning was so wonderful! Great location-the ocean, redwoods, Golden Gate bridge, San Francisco are all nearby with amazing views along the way! The owners thought of everything! It is so nicely decorated and comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Halfway between San Francisco and wine country - it's the ideal location for a getaway! Take the ferry from Larkspur to San Francisco. Napa is 24 miles and Sonoma 16 miles. Sonoma Raceway is just 6 miles down the road. Excellent kayaking and boting with the launch 1/4 mile down the road. Easy access to Point Reyes.
