A great location to relax and getaway, or as a home base for your Bay Area Adventure. Enjoy watching the birds in the marshes of the Petaluma River. Just 1/10 mile down the road is a boat launch for kayakers, boaters and fisherman. A short drive to Sonoma and Napa for winery visits. Novato has a fabulous downtown with quaint shops and excellent restaurants. Sonoma Raceway is only 6 miles down the road for any race fans. San Francisco and Oakland are less than an hour away.
The Boathouse has a fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom with shower, and a living room/bedroom with a pull-out couch, a pillow-top queen bed, a LED flat screen TV and wifi internet.
Just outside the cottage is a private deck bordering the marsh with dining seating for 6.
The Boathouse is located at the bottom of approximately 2 1/2 flights of stairs. Access is by foot only.
Although we have lived here for over 3 years, coming home still feels like being on vacation! We look forward to sharing our cottage with you.
Randi Bakken purchased this cottage in 2011
After living in suburban neighborhoods our whole lives, we never realized how amazing an undisturbed view into nature really is. One look out the window had us convinced we couldn't be anywhere else!
The Boathouse has a definite away-from-it-all, country feel - but is still just a few minutes from downtown Novato, Safeway, Target, and Costco.
The cottage was perfect for our small family. Great location with beautiful views near Sonoma Raceway. House is super cute, has a very comfy queen bed, pull out sofa, kitchen with everything you need (and a great view) and a roomy bathroom. We travel to the raceway a few times a year and will stay here every time its available. Owners are incredibly kind and helpful.
We were welcomed by the owners. The home was well stocked with even beer in the frig and a chocolate bar.
Very close to Napa and the ferry to the Giants game. We were very comfy and would stay here again
We stayed at the cottage while attending a go kart race for our 9 year old at the Sonoma Raceway. Based on the pictures it would be a good size for our family of four.
Finding the entrance was a little confusing but once I checked my email (looking for a number to call for help) I found an attachment with all the info I needed. The exact location, how to get in, where to park. It was very thorough. The steps going down to the house are no joke. While it is shaded and tranquil, herding the kids down the stairs while dragging their bags was interesting. The door was left unlocked for us so we didn't have to fiddle with the lock box. Once inside we realized there was no air conditioning. I guess this is normal for the area but on this weekend the temperature was over 90 every day. My husband quickly found a portable ac unit in the closet and set it up. It didn't keep the house "hotel cold", but with the unit and the fan already there it was nice. We had brought a air mattress in case our boys, 4 & 9, didn't sleep well together. But there is not enough floor space for that once the sofa bed is pulled out. This turned out not to be an issue. The boy's slept great and the sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable. The queen bed was super comfy too. There is a lot of space in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Thank goodness they provided coffee, sugar & half and half. We didn't bring any of it. Randi also stopped by shortly after our arrival and brought us a bottle of wine and a new sponge and soap. She is a very nice lady. After my husband made a joke about beer she dropped off a few beers for us and a booster chair for our youngest. So thoughtful. She also let us know that the dock is off limits due to safety reasons. Initially I was disappointed but, having the 3 year old this seemed like a blessing in disguise. There was a huge play set, sand box, kids table, and toys on the side of the house which the kids were able to use. We BBQ'd one night. Being outside was so peaceful with an amazing backdrop. I shared more pictures on Facebook with family & friends than I normally do because of how beautiful this location is. We go on many karting trips a year and this house/location made this my all time favorite trip.
Before pointing out a couple of small things, let me be clear, we had a great time. The only reason I point them out at all is, what were of no concern to us, might be to someone else. First of all, the owner does mention that the boat house is down a flight of stairs, YES IT IS. Wasn't an issue for us, but if going down a lengthy set of stair is an issue for you, might not be the place for you. Secondly, a big part of the charm is the location. It's very peaceful and a pretty place. But if you were looking to be within walking distance of stores and restaurants, you'll be disappointed. Again, that was fine with us. All in all it is a charming little place, well equipped and something different. We were looking for something other than a "box" room in "fill-in-the-blank" hotel, and that's what we got. No regrets here.
My husband and I had a wonderful two week + stay at this boathouse. It was so serene and peaceful. A great place to come home to after busy days visiting with our newborn grandson and working on our new house in Santa Rosa.
The pictures are exactly what the place looked like. The kitchen was very well stocked and we had many meals there.
The two stories of steps were worrisome at first, since we are senior citizens, but we managed them just fine.
The only negative was the WiFi, which was often not working well.
But all in all a great place!!
My friends came in to town so we booked this spot. Really great location that is easily accessed and close to whatever you might want to do in the area. Very clean and well stocked. We plan to book in the future when we have more friends than our house can handle.
Halfway between San Francisco and wine country - it's the ideal location for a getaway! Take the ferry from Larkspur to San Francisco. Napa is 24 miles and Sonoma 16 miles. Sonoma Raceway is just 6 miles down the road. Excellent kayaking and boting with the launch 1/4 mile down the road. Easy access to Point Reyes.
