We are from Canada, and have been visiting Costa Rica numerous times over several years. Like many, we fell in love it all! Our first vacation outside of a resort, was in Costa Rica, and such a wonderful experience.
We were made to feel safe and comfortable. Flying in after dark, we were picked up at the airport and driven to our vacation home, groceries were in the fridge for the morning, we had help renting a vehicle for the first time, and we felt safe driving and exploring and shopping.
We want to share this same experience for others. Our property manager Cristian, will look after all of your needs, whether you need a pickup at the airport, car rentals or arranging some amazing tours. If you do not wish to drive Cristian can also provide a local personal driver to take you where ever you wish to go.(Fee's Extra)We work hard to ensure our guests are well taken care of and have a very comfortable and memorable stay in our home. All payments for rentals are handled through Paypal so you can feel comfortable that you are protected with our payment system
Rey and Jan Laferriere purchased this house in 2013
We love the central Pacific area! We chose to build our home here on the edge of the jungle to enjoy the macaws and toucans spotted from our yard. Nestled in the mountain, we enjoy quiet privacy away from the beach hustle and bustle.
Yet when we feel like being adventurous we can take a 5 minute drive for groceries, dining at the many ocean restaurants, golf, zip-lining, surfing, or strolls along the beach.
We are located in Phase 2 of Los Tucanes development.
Our property is facing the jungle mountain view in the back from the over-sized covered patio. The home is brand new, just finished being built in 2013, with all new appliances, furnishings and landscaping.
My wife, a military buddy and I (all in our early 70's) spent 4 weeks at Casa Rey spanning mid Jan to mid Feb. We were very pleased with the house. The location was quiet, but near to lots of adventures. We had a rental car which was essential.
My buddy and I had many $3.00 breakfasts at the Taco Bar in Jaco. Two choices of breakfasts each morning with price of coffee extra. The choices varied between pancakes, French Toast, Eggs and Toast. Each breakfast also had fresh fruit. We went fishing out of Tarcoles, the referral to our fishing company through the Casa Rey caretakers. We caught Sea Bass and Jacks. They filleted them for us and we had several meals cooked on the grill in the backyard. We spent many hours on the patio set with ceiling fan to circulate the air. We enjoyed the plants, butterflies, birds, iguanas, squirrels, ants nests, etc. as well as our computer games. Several restaurants in town serve excellent meals at reasonable prices. It's fun just searching them out. Zip lining, rain forest tours, beaches, etc. are all nearby. We documented our favorites in the Casa Rey logbook available to guests. Also, lots of pamphlets for local activities, restaurants, etc. are on the counter. I got to know some of the residents in the Tucan I subdivision a short walk down the road; nice folks. Residents there are from USA and Canada, own these winter vacation homes where they spend a portion of each year. In summary, we were very pleased with accommodations, owners, caretakers, neighbors, location, things to do in the area.
We enjoyed our 6 day stay at this lovely property and would highly recommend it to anyone. The property was very clean, comfortable, and well outfitted. We used the grill, did a lot of cooking and spent time on the patio enjoying the birds, wildlife, and beautiful weather. The location was private, but not isolated. It is a convenient base for a variety of activities including beaches like Playa Mantas and Herradura, Tarcoles and the crocodile bridge, great restaurants, and much more. We found the owners/workers at the fruit and vegetable market (coming from the house right before Soda Punta 4) very helpful and friendly.
I was a little nervous when I booked this house since this was my first time using VRBO (or any vacation rental service), and it was also my first big trip to another country. I didn't know what to expect, but this place was just perfect.
I work remotely, and needed strong Wi-Fi since I needed to work while on vacation. Even in this beautiful and somewhat remote setting, the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. The house had all modern amenities, including AC, washer/dryer, TV and DVD player, and everything you need in the kitchen.
The style was great, and the entire house was tiled with the same tile which was really cool. I love the walk in showers, and vaulted ceilings. The house is set toward the end of a gravel road, with lots of beautiful trees, plants, and wildlife around. We saw toucans and other birds, iguanas, lizards, beetles, and a whole host of other cool creatures right outside of the house.
Then you're a short drive from some great beaches. Playa Hermosa is about 15 minutes away, and has black sand and huge surfer waves. We had a lot of fun there. We also drove about an hour to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is a must-see. You're also a short drive to Bijagual waterfall, which is Central America's tallest waterfall.
The town of Herradura has everything you need. There's a (pricey) grocery store called Auto Mercado with all kinds of vegetarian/vegan items which we liked. But there are much cheaper groceries around as well, including La Amistad which is walking distance to the house, and Maxi Pali in Jaco.
Rey was friendly and easily reachable, and I never had to wait long for a response. They answered every question I had, including how it would be driving out there. Cristian, the property manager was also really nice and helpful. He recommended sites to see, beaches, and other places to visit. We called him when we got to town and he showed up in less than 10 minutes to lead us to the house. While we were there, he responded to all of my questions and was always very friendly and timely.
I was super pleased with my stay here, and I highly recommend this property to others, especially those who may be nervous about vacation rentals like I was. All the comforts of home, and close to all the wonders of Costa Rica. If and when I go back, I'll consider staying here, or find out if they own any other properties in another area I'd like to visit.
We stayed at Rey home for two weeks as a base camp while traveling around CR. Very comfortable. Showers and bedrooms were very nice. Even though it was not fenced we felt very safe and had no issues what so ever. AC in the living room was not working but we called the manager and the repair people were there within the hour and had it up and running in 30 minutes. Everything else worked well and the internet was very fast. We would stay again.
We stayed at Los Tocanes for 2 nights recently and very much enjoyed the beautiful house and yard. Karen met us at the Auto Mercado nearby and brought us to the house. The mornings and evenings are the best time to see birds, white faced monkeys, hummingbirds and butterflies. We enjoyed sitting in the back yard and enjoying breakfast while listening to the birds. The house is well designed and has everything you need. The decor is just beautiful. Very homey, clean and comfortable. The neighbors were friendly as well.
We had a wonderfull stay at this house . Everything was perfect . The picture on the VRBO site are exactly what you get . We were glad to see that a Toucan has made is home in the backyard so we can see them ( a couple ) every morning during our cafe time .The best house we rent for our 3 week stay in CR ( 3 houses in 3 weeks)
We were two couple and had enough place, house was very clean . Had a great day with Gino who bring us to playa blanco ( snorkeling and touring ) .
We are nestled in a private brand new 2 bedroom, 2 bath home in the jungle, and yet only a 5 minute drive to the ocean, restaurants on the beach, and modern shopping for all your needs.
Central to many excursions and activities, you can adventure out to explore and sight see many close by attractions, or choose to lay back and rejuvenate in peace and tranquility.
