A PRIVATE ISLAND GETAWAY…
The historic Daufuskie Island is a residential 'sea island' cushioned between Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina about 2.75 miles (4.43 km) offshore. There are no bridges that connect Daufuskie with mainland South Carolina; therefore all island access must come by boat. A ferry will take you from Hilton Island to your new home away from home, where you will be greeted by roads lined with a canopy of Spanish moss leading to miles of pristine white beaches, rich historic sites, horse stables, and award-winning golf courses. At this private getaway, you will feel miles away from your daily stresses.
RESTFUL MULTI-FAMILY ACCOMMODATIONS…
This beautifully decorated home is designed to accommodate a family or large group of friends. The cottage's open and spacious living and dining area includes a large dining room table, fully equipped kitchen, a well-appointed lounge area, and flat screen TV. When you need a break, step out on to the front porch, which includes ample seating to accommodate you and your guest as you watch the waves roll by. For those of you who need to stay connected to the world, Wifi is available throughout the cottage. The bedrooms include: 2 masters with king-sized beds, 2 bedroom with 2 queen-sized beds (6 total beds). Each living room couch also has a pull-out bed.
LEISURELY ACTIVITIES AND FREE CHAMPIONSHIP GOLFING…
Your cottage is located in the Melrose on the Beach Resort, which includes 2 miles of secluded and pristine beaches, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, an equestrian center, Beach Club restaurant, fitness facilities, and pool area.
A golf cart will be provided at no cost to you and your guests to tour resort and adjoining attractions. You can also rent bikes to explore the island and its many historic sites, or visit the 'Sea Grass Stables' to begin your horse ride on the beach or carriage ride around the island.
If you're a golfer, you'll want to take advantage of the neighboring Bloody Point championship golf course. RENTERS WILL RECEIVE TWO FREE ROUNDS OF GOLF PER BEDROOM!!
We bought this property to escape from the daily stresses of city life. When we arrived on the island, we felt like we stepped back in history to a time where cars were replaced by long leisurely walks and bike rides, and video games were replaced by quality family time combing for shells on the beach. Of course, the free golf was our other big incentive!
Gillian Rowan purchased this house in 2005
This beautiful, first row, beachfront cottage, is located just steps away from 2 miles of pristine, quiet beaches where all you can hear is the sound of gentle waves and beautiful shore birds. Watch the shrimp boats, bike or ride horses along the beach, take a Historic tour and discover the Gulah History of Daufuskie or take in a round of golf on our award-winning golf-course. Start your game just a short walk (or ride in your private golf cart) from the cottage and play alongside a beautiful shoreline with crashing waves. Don't forget to try our island delicacy, deviled crabs! Better still, we'll help arrange a full low-country dinner prepared by a local resident to be delivered directly to your cottage. In addition to the Melrose resort, Daufuskie has several unique and colorful restaurants (Marshside Mama's and the Daufuskie Crab Company) where you'll swear you're in the middle of the Caribbean, as well as the casual but upscale Eagle's Nest at Bloody Point. History buffs will enjoy exploring the island and visiting various sites providing a glimpse into the past, including the recently-restored Oyster House used as a 19th century Gullah meeting place, the Billie Burns Museum, ancient cemeteries, and the two-room school house where renowned author Pat Conroy taught and which was the subject of his first book, The Water is Wide. Those interested in unique shopping opportunities will want to visit the Iron Fish Art Gallery, the Glass House, and the weekly farmer's market held at the public dock during the warmer months. And you certainly don't want to miss the Daufuskie Island Community Farm, where old and young visitors alike are encouraged to help feed the chickens and even to try milking a goat!
