Why Edward Kelly chose Talmont-Saint-Hilaire
We owned an apartment in Pierre & Vacances near by. As our family grew we needed more space. A few years later this house of came up for sale.

Perfect Beach holiday
Thanks Ed we had another great stay at your lovely house.
Everything was just right as always – clean and tidy with plenty of space for all 9 of us and with the use of copious amounts of beach towels
The kids played table tennis and pool and we watched videos on the entertainment system in the evening or sat on the veranda drinking wine overlooking the sea.
The new shops are only 5minutes cycle ride from the house so the kids got up before us every morning to ride down the cycle path and get the bread and croissants for breakfast (this was a complete shock to us believe me)
The weather was great so we walked to the beach every day and body boarded and surfed in the waves. On the last evening we ate at the beach restaurant and walked back to the house on the coastal path.
A perfect beach holiday in France - we are looking forward to next year already(our fifth)
Large and spacious home ideal for a family holiday
We had a great holiday here. The house is huge and the views are incredible. The finest beach in the Vendee is a stunning 10 minute coastal walk away and the living, dining and kitchen areas are great to relax in after a hard day's swimming and beaching. The living areas have large windows which offer superb views of the sea and, during our stay, some astonishingly beautiful sunsets. On a practical level the driveway is large and secure. We stored our bikes in the garage which has an electric door and makes early morning sorties for croissants very easy and pleasant. Our daughter is a toddler so we weren't able to make use of the great toys for older kids (and adults). We had no problems and everything was straightforward but in terms of the booking and payment everything was super smooth and easy.
Superb home from home, literally by the sea
You can see by the many pictures that the owner, Edward, has posted what a great house he has created for his family. The location, directly above a small (rocky) beach, walking distance to a huge (sandy) beach and right next door to a port is fantastic. We felt lucky to rent it for a short time.
The house is thoroughly modern with luxurious touches available such as expresso machine, large ice making fridge-freezer, big gas bbq, table tennis table, wifi and English satellite tv. It was all very clean and smartly presented for our arrival, with wine in the fridge too!
The owner was readily available (email) for queries and help during our stay. We were even able to borrow the family's bikes a couple of times - thanks!
The local (large) beach is ideal for sun worship, beach games and water sports (body-boarding excellent across a sand-bar when catching the tide right - which we did by luck first time and then took 3 more attempts to do again!). It's busy in the afternoon but not overly so and has just enough facilities - it is far from spoilt.
The port similarly has just the right amount of development to provide the things you need (nice creperie, restaurants, excellent ice cream from a small 'parlour', small shop for news/magazines etc) without being over-built.
Supermarket is 10 minutes by car, local market shop is less than 10 minutes walk - so no problem catering for a house full either.
The region's other towns and attractions are at least 30 mins drive away, but keep away from Nantes and the roads are not busy.
Overall a really excellent stay for us. Would highly recommend for 2 families with children to share a lovely holiday.
Many thanks David. I don't know if this is everyone's experience but we have been very fortunate with the families who have rented our house. Not only have they enjoyed being there, but they have all taken really good care of the house as well. David for instance dealt with a water problem in the basement following a storm and only contacted me once it was sorted.
The villa has an incredible view over the waves... sitting there listening to the waves crashing against the rocks and watching the boats leave the marina was a great addition to the holiday. The beach is just a short walk away and if you can find the buckets (hidden under the decking) then go crab hunting!
All in all a lovely villa.
A fabulous place!
"This is a wonderful spot. We really enjoyed the magnificent spacious house with its stunning views of the sea - the garden gate leads right on to the path beside the sea. Its an ideal place for activity with the beach, cycle routes, forest walks, golf and water activities right on the doorstep. The small Port and the Pierre Vacances holiday village are nearby which offer a variety of activities, pools and eating places for adults and kids. There really is something here for everyone. We took a few trips into Les Sables d'lonne for shopping and to use the beach - which is stunning. We had one of our best holidays in this villa and definitely plan to go back again. A gem!
Hi, thanks for posting your review. We would be delighted if returned again. Our plan is to rent the house for just 6-8 weeks per year and ideally that would be to the same people. You will certainly be given preference. Some others have indicated they wish to return and I have started provisionally blocking them out for next year, so let me know. Thanks. Edward
Perfect Beach Holiday in the Vendee
We returned yesterday from your beautiful house. We were completely overwhelmed by the place especially the astounding view and proximity to the beach and port. Everything had been thought about wonderfully. There was plenty of room - even with 2 families including 5 kids. We read on the veranda as the kids played american football in the garden and played table tennis tournaments downstairs. We drank wine outside watching the sun go down and watched the yachts and motorboats on the ocean as we woke drinking espresso. We cooked moules in the beautifully stocked kitchen and rock pooled outside the back gate. We stole your Harry Potter playing cards thinking they were ours (these will be returned forthwith)
We rode bikes to the beach and body boarded in the surf.
We felt so privileged to use this house for the week -- a perfect location for a beach holiday in France and a holiday to live long in the memory. Thank you
The garden of the house goes down to the water. Turn left and it is about 10 mins walk to the beach and turn right and it is 3 minutes walk to the Marina with its restaurants and shops. We are about 10 mins drive to Talmont St Hilaire, 20 minutes drive to Les Sables d'olonne, 1 ½ hours drive to Nantes and 1 1/3 hours to La Rochelle/Ile de Re. Allow 5 hrs drive to Northern France Ferry ports. Local amenities include restaurants and shops and local activities: swimming, sailing, surfing, golfing, tennis, cycling and adventure parks. The local 13th Chateau Talmont and Puy du Fuy (1 1/2 hrs) are very popular.
