About Jim Hurst
For someone who grew up in Florida, I love New England!! It all started in college in Rhode Island, then moved to NYC where I met my wife, and soon after we moved to Boston. Finally to the North Shore because putting us closer to the mountains. While we enjoy the beach, I grew up on them and really appreciate the north country. Maine is an exceptionally beautiful, yet very simple place. It came as no surprise when I found out the Village of Bryant Pond was the last place in the US to get rid of the old 'Crank Phone", and it was in the mid 70's!!
Jim Hurst purchased this House in 2005
Why Jim Hurst chose Woodstock
The lake house is only 2 hours from our Northshore MA home and everything we wanted in a beautiful lake and close to good skiing. The lake is big enough for waterskiing. Jet skis/Waverunners are not allowed. The lake also has the best trout fishing in the immediate area. It is so peaceful, yet there are so many outdoor activities at your fingertips if you want to enjoy the real Maine. We have a book of all the good hikes, mountain biking trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, etc in the house. We raised 4 young kids here on the weekends, and they truly learned how to enjoy great great outdoors as well as the relaxation!
What makes this House unique
The call of the loons, the Bald Eagles fishing in the cove in the fall, the Wood ducks nesting in our duck box every spring, the hummingbirds, the trout, I can go on and on......You never need to leave the house, but if you need to pickup up some provisions, pizza, ice cream, adult beverages, as well as gas, Breau's is just 2 minutes away. I suggest you try their breakfast pizza for breakfast!

Perfect getaway spot
Thank you Jim for hosting us in such a lovely cabin! The amenities were great, and the photos don't do it justice - it's even nicer (and bigger!) in person. We appreciated all the information ahead of time, including how to work everything and activity suggestions. The decor was beautiful too (love the loon theme!).
Loon - tastic...!
I'm not even sure where exactly to begin..., from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Claudia who was very helpful to get us started with local grocery stores and such... It was amazing with the cabin on the water to the scenic views of Bryant Pond...
From coffee on the bench to kayaking in the early morning, till the late evening swims off the dock, to the campfires with the s'mores all the way to the Loons and their maniacal calls, being their in Woodstock, Maine with my family it's was exactly what we needed for an end of summer retreat..., and a sense of appreciation for the great outdoors...
Jim, you were helpful with the points of interests and the tips, to helping me find switches for the lights in the oddest of places...
We all ventured out and about from North Conway to even the simplistic town of Bethel... We were even grateful enough to have grabbed some local vegetables and enjoyed them grilled with our dinner...
Needless to say it's one of those trips you wish didn't have to come to an end...
I have zero complaints and I hope to book again with Jim and Tracey...
Peaceful and relaxing place
We rented this house from Monday til Friday. The lake was way beyond what I expected. It was calm and quiet for the most part. The area made you want to be outdoors sitting by the fire pit or on the deck. We spent most of our time outside either kayaking, sitting by the fire pit or playing games on the porch table well into the night. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner on the porch. While there is plenty of room in the house, you will want to be outside. Its the perfect place to get away from the hussle and bustle of the fast pace lives most of us live these days. My kids barely touched their electronics (very unusual) and spent most of their time on the water paddling around the lakeon the kayaks or fishing from the dock. One suggestion I have is maybe having the windows brushed off more frequently of spider webs and spiders. Especially along side the house where you have to walk to get to the front door and the front part of the house. The kids saw the size of the spiders and the webs and freaked out, some were pretty big. Especially at night when we opened the windows to let the cool air in. After the first night we took a broom and swept them down and the kids didn't pay much attention after that. Jim was great to deal with and very accommodating. He made sure any issues or questions we had were quickly answered. The waste station was only open on Wednesday and Saturday
We took what we had Wednesday and because we would not be there Saturday, he said he would take care of what was left. If you want slow pace, quiet and relaxing.... This is your place. Thanks for letting us stay Jim!!!
Great views. Home is very comfortable and extremely well equipped. Quiet area, great for relaxing. Love the sounds from the loons on the lake. Would definitely rent again.
Great lake house on beautiful serene lake!
We really enjoyed ourselves here. The lake house had plenty of room and was equipped with everything we needed. The lake was beautiful and serene and we were able to go kayaking a lot. The outdoor area with the fire pit and Adirondack chairs was very relaxing! It's the perfect place for a family reunion. Our only suggestion is to replace the outdoor grill.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay as well as the beautiful Western Maine Lakes/Mountains! I am sorry you had a grease fire on the grill. I immediately overhauled it, replacing most of the parts, as well as giving it a thorough cleaning, and back to it's normal Weber standards.
Beautiful lakefront views
The house was tidy with many bedrooms/sleeping areas. The front porch was a wonderful place to have a morning cup of coffee overlooking the lake or a few beers after grilling up some burgers. We used the outdoor fire pit each night, and spent the day floating on the lake. Jim was a gracious host, and had a binder prepared with local attractions, sightseeing, restaurants, etc. We definitely plan to be back in the future.
a couple of Must See's: Frenchman's hole (swimming hole with waterfall and 20-25' jump! Step Falls, a series of numerous waterfalls that have created chutes and slides between the pools....all these and other local hikes are listed in a book at the lakehouse
