St Paul Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath

Charming and fully renovated unit is now available for your enjoyment! Designer/owner has completed 3 month remodel and is certain that it will become your favorite St. Paul rental. Ideal location - on Historic Grand Hill, Grand Ave just steps south, and Summit Ave directly north. Shop and dine on Grand Ave and then stroll those calories away on Summit Ave while you are taken away by the architecture and grandeur of century old mansions. Bikes can be rented one block away if you prefer to two-wheel it.

This one bedroom retreat has everything you need with attention to comfort and style. New bamboo floors, walls, kitchen, bathroom, and furnishings. Additionally, you also get the use of the front porch for those summer moments of relaxation and people watching! I also operate/own VRBO #373111, another one bedroom unit, literally next door - so I am an involved and accessible part of my guest's stay should needs arise. I hope you choose to stay with me for your next St. Paul excursion!

About Stacey Johnson

As a lover of old homes and design I find myself drawn to the process of improving and shining up some aged gems. After renovating and building several homes here and in the Caribbean I have decided to share some of the spaces with travelers via VRBO, and have found it such an enjoyable experience!

Stacey Johnson purchased this condo in 2012

Why Stacey Johnson chose St Paul

This home was purchased because it it literally next door to where I live and was in need of some loving! Can't think of another property so easy to keep an eye on and manage than addition I was having to turn people away due to being booked with #373111. People LOVE this area and are telling friends; time for another unit :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at your beautiful house on Grand Hill. We could not have imagined a better place to stay for the race weekend. We are already looking forward to our next stay with you.

Warmest regards,

Good enough place.

  • 3 of 5

We were impressed with the central Saint Paul location, the lovely old house, the fit and finish of the carpentry, and the nice airy feeling of the upstairs apartment. Stacey Johnson phoned me the day after we moved in to check on us. Everything was good except (see below). The apartment was pet friendly and the neighborhood was great for walking our small dog around the block. I will recommend this property to others with the following caveat.

Beware if your plans change! Stacey was not willing to reduce our stay by one night, so we ended up paying for three nights but staying only two. To be fair, she did tell us up front when we asked her, but we were under the impression we could stay for as few as two nights. She told us that per policy it was three minimum during the time we stayed. At the rather high price we paid, some sort of adjustment could have been made, but no. And that's why I gave this lovely place only three stars. Oh yes, I must add that Stacey offered to make the third night of our stay available to another renter and she offered to refund the cost of our third night in that eventuality. I didn't take her up on that offer and I don't remember why. Okay. Maybe I was too strict. Four stars. I'd have given her five stars in a heartbeat if she would have offered us even $50 back on that third night when we were not there.

Stacey was quite pleasant and attentive to our needs. Our grandson did freak out when the bathroom doorknob came off in his hand when he tried to open the door, but that may have been a simple matter of it needing tightening with a screwdriver.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and feedback Daniel. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and the area. Yes, as stated in my rental policy and online there is a three night minimum during busy season (May-Sept.) which is fairly standard. When I was new in the business a long time ago I allowed two night rentals and what happened was fridays and Saturdays would get booked and the rest of the remaining week would be open. Potential guests would call requesting a 5-7 night stay comprising a weekend and there would be nothing to offer them, thus losing that nice revenue. This 3 night policy seemed a happy medium to offer shorter stays yet not fall victim to my earlier experiences. I hope you understand and will choose to stay again at 561 Grand Hill :) Stacey

Lovely neighborhood, owner has great design aesthetic, continuing a/c issue

  • 4 of 5

A very positive compliment to the owner for keeping this unit well-maintained. It was really a pleasure to have quality furnishings, dishes, towels, and a gas stove (the little things excite this all-electric appliance apartment dweller) to cook on. Although we did not meet her, the owner was very helpful and communicative via text and e-mail, and was especially generous in allowing us to utilize another tenant's WiFi due to an outage. The location is also incredible with so many impressive homes (to dream about living in...) in the neighborhood. We rode the nearby Green Line train (be sure to press the lack-of-signage door button; I almost got stuck due the doors closing automatically after my wife had already exited onto the platform), which was a great, easy way to access downtown Minneapolis. During our stay, there was a heat advisory and the unit was very warm as the single small window air conditioner unit (no central air here) in the bedroom is not adequate for whole space despite being a known issue since the 7/10/14 and 8/12/14 reviews. We kept the blinds closed for shade and made do as best possible. Though two small fans were available, owner did not provide portable air conditioner referenced in 7/30/15 review; hopefully she can be proactive in this regard prior to future summer guests' arrival. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay and appreciate the owner making her unit available to enable visitors a local's perspective. I likely would not have ventured down this street and was very happy to be given the basis to do so.

Chic little apartment in a great neighborhood in St. Paul!

  • 5 of 5

A sun-shiny apartment with all the comforts of home. Stacey adds all the special touches - matching pillows, fluffy blanket on the couch, wine glasses. Her decorating tastes are great and you feel like you are staying in a posh hotel, but with more space and more privacy. Grand Hill is a one-way street that few cars use, so it's quiet which makes for pure joy to sit on the front porch and enjoy a book and watch the dog-walkers go by. We have brought our small-ish dog and they love it there too. I would recommend this to couples, but especially to a woman looking to feel secure while enjoying this area.

Lovely apartment in an absolutely ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We visited the Twin Cities area for the first time as part of a college tour for our son. We could not have picked a more perfect place to stay for 5 days. The apartment is just 15 minutes from the airport and a few minutes from the major highway. Yet the house is on a quiet, tree-lined street adjacent to blocks & blocks of some of the most amazing Victorian homes we have ever seen (and we live in San Francisco). A short drive or long walk away are health food stores, pubs and some amazing restaurants (I recommend the inexpensive & delicious Cafe Latte on Grand Ave - we ate there 3 times). You are a short drive away from several colleges, scenic points overlooking the Mississippi River, downtown St. Paul and more. Bottom line - an IDEAL location.

The apartment had everything we needed, was very clean and professionally decorated. It should be noted that the apt is up a fairly steep set of stairs which would be challenging for someone with a mobility problem. Stacey is a delightful person and answered our few questions almost immediately. Our flights back to SF were cancelled and Stacey was a lifesaver by allowing us to stay an extra night. If our son decides to go to college in Minnesota, we will definitely be back.
