I grew up in Columbia in a home similar to this home. Was one of 6 children all of whom loved visiting Lake Murray with our parents. This house was built in 1970 by my parents and they enjoyed the lake as did we. In 2012 my parents were no longer living and we put the house for sale...and then decided to buy it ourselves. Our 7 children were happy to continue to visit 'Granny's house' and helped us to update it. We want others to enjoy it as we did. So we are offering it
as a lake rental property.
Lee Anne Futrell purchased this house in 2012
It is a lovely and inviting piece of property.
The home is spacious and accommodating and the lake area is quiet as it is in a cove. The dock and ramp are convenient for use.
We had a wonderful time at your home and enjoyed shopping and the fellowship we had. It was great to get away and relax, enjoy the scenario and look out across the lake.
The House Was A Very Nice Older Home. Nice Decor And Very Well Kept. When We Arrived We Immediately Loved It. First Disappointment was The bathrooms Were Nasty. They Hadn't been cleaned at all. Hair Was in the showers and the toilet seats were.. Well..Luckily we always take our own cleaning supplies with us on trips. After We got The house together family started to arrive. Over All nice setting For A Relaxing Gathering. The home just needs A Little Extra Care. I Would Stay Here Again.
Our son was getting married in Columbia. We had families coming in from ND and KY with babies. We were able to give each family a room for privacy when babies were napping. The home had everything we needed. The yard and lake were a lot of fun to relax in after the wedding. I would recommend this home to large families for a great get a way. Enjoyed the swimming floaties in the lake!
The lot on the lake was perfect for our large family. We stayed on the water or in the water the whole time. The deck under the oak trees down by the water made for an easy way to be out of the sun while the kids swam. Plenty of room to swim and fish and the kayaking in the little coves was wonderful. All the wild life made it that much more exciting for all of us. The large dining table and extra smaller table made meals perfect for the kids and adults. The living spaces were just right. We had a wonderful time.
The property is large, has a pretty view of the cove and is great to host a party. We had two large families and everyone enjoyed the stay! We brought air-beds as suggested to fit our 15 people!
We had ~ 40 people for a (University of SC) graduation celebration and then a Mother's Day brunch.
There is a large deck, a fenced in yard where we put up four tables and chairs, it has lots of grassy space and the boat ramp (which we did not use). We played games down by the lake...
The house is a typical old lake house, it has charm and it has its quirks. It has been updated a bit but it is not "modern" the way newer homes would be. The central AC for upstairs worked very well and the AC units worked well. The beds were comfortable and even the pillows were comfortable (I usually have a problem with hotel pillows). Quirks include holding the toilet handle down for it to flush (not a big deal) and there was no deck lighting (we strung lights and used a lamp).
The owner and property manager are great to deal with.
There is a circular driveway which made parking easy. It is close to stores and The Wired Goat for the morning coffee fix.
Again, if you are looking for a place to host an event or simply to vacation with a large group, this is an excellent choice.
If you are looking for luxury or modern baths/kitchen, rent another home.
Gathered our family together at the Chapin location. Found the house to be adequately accommodating. The back deck was perfect for sitting and visiting and talking group pictures. Beautiful lot on the lake. Children enjoyed the dock and we were blessed with beautiful weather! The house felt like someone's home. Could use a little update...but that's just my opinion.
Chapin is a charming old town with modern additions. Just 2 short miles away is Crooked Creek Park with tennis courts, a disc-golf course, 2 playgrounds, walking trails, indoor walking track, and basketball courts. Churches of many denominations located within 5 miles. Antique shops, Aquarius Spa and Salon, and Chapin Community Theatre all within 5 miles.
