I grew up in Columbia in a home similar to this home. Was one of 6 children all of whom loved visiting Lake Murray with our parents. This house was built in 1970 by my parents and they enjoyed the lake as did we. In 2012 my parents were no longer living and we put the house for sale...and then decided to buy it ourselves. Our 7 children were happy to continue to visit 'Granny's house' and helped us to update it. We want others to enjoy it as we did. So we are offering it
as a lake rental property.
Lee Anne Futrell purchased this house in 2012
It is a lovely and inviting piece of property.
The home is spacious and accommodating and the lake area is quiet as it is in a cove. The dock and ramp are convenient for use.
The lot on the lake was perfect for our large family. We stayed on the water or in the water the whole time. The deck under the oak trees down by the water made for an easy way to be out of the sun while the kids swam. Plenty of room to swim and fish and the kayaking in the little coves was wonderful. All the wild life made it that much more exciting for all of us. The large dining table and extra smaller table made meals perfect for the kids and adults. The living spaces were just right. We had a wonderful time.
The property is large, has a pretty view of the cove and is great to host a party. We had two large families and everyone enjoyed the stay! We brought air-beds as suggested to fit our 15 people!
We had ~ 40 people for a (University of SC) graduation celebration and then a Mother's Day brunch.
There is a large deck, a fenced in yard where we put up four tables and chairs, it has lots of grassy space and the boat ramp (which we did not use). We played games down by the lake...
The house is a typical old lake house, it has charm and it has its quirks. It has been updated a bit but it is not "modern" the way newer homes would be. The central AC for upstairs worked very well and the AC units worked well. The beds were comfortable and even the pillows were comfortable (I usually have a problem with hotel pillows). Quirks include holding the toilet handle down for it to flush (not a big deal) and there was no deck lighting (we strung lights and used a lamp).
The owner and property manager are great to deal with.
There is a circular driveway which made parking easy. It is close to stores and The Wired Goat for the morning coffee fix.
Again, if you are looking for a place to host an event or simply to vacation with a large group, this is an excellent choice.
If you are looking for luxury or modern baths/kitchen, rent another home.
Gathered our family together at the Chapin location. Found the house to be adequately accommodating. The back deck was perfect for sitting and visiting and talking group pictures. Beautiful lot on the lake. Children enjoyed the dock and we were blessed with beautiful weather! The house felt like someone's home. Could use a little update...but that's just my opinion.
The yard and lake was amazing. The front deck was great, the water front was beautiful. With the 4 small children it was great that the deck had 3 locking gates so the children could not get to the water. Also a great fenced in and gated play yard that the children loved. There was a baby gate, high chair, small table and chairs, pack and play with sheets. With family coming from 4 different states it was set nice for young children.
The owner was prompt with any concerns we had but, we never heard from the property manger even when we left a message.
With all the details of family coming in on different days, rehearsal and wedding the only day we really had to enjoy the lake front was our last full day at the house, it was also the day the owners had someone come in to repair the dock so it would be ready for their next guest and we were unable to sit out there.
Like most people I carry a very heavy load by the time I arrived I was exhausted and was unprepared for the condition of the house. We spent the first 2 1/2 hours getting the house ready for the arrival of our family. The few homes we rented from VRBO we never had an experience like this, so this caught us off guard.
The owner did offer to come help us, but she also explained that her husband had been in the hospital and later shared she had broken ribs and that why things were how they were, and also the house was opened earlier than usual.
The owner was very prompt and tried hard.
This is our second visit and stay at this home. Loved the new TV upgrade. We always enjoy our visit and the convenience of the boat ramp on property. Unfortunately the only drawback this visit was it rained everyday on this visit.
This was my second time leasing this property in one month. We liked it so much that we leased the house for another work related trip. Great for large groups.
