Welcome to The Ark at Lake Lanier, the premier family reunion location in north Georgia!
We have put countless hours and money into creating this little piece of heaven on the shores of Lake Lanier. After purchasing this place and living here for 6 years, we turned it into a vacation rental in 2013. Since then we have renovated two bathrooms and the entire backyard including landscaping, new zoysia sod, retaining walls, new fence around the pool, new pool deck, patios, beautiful plants. The current picture on this website does not do the backyard justice. In addition, we have finished building a permanent sand beach volleyball court, tether ball set and in-ground trampoline and in August 2015 have added a Gaga Ball Pit! We have also purchased beautiful new theater furniture, a full 16 theater chairs of the highest leather quality, all fully automatic and beautiful.
This multi million dollar property includes an 12,000 sq ft. home along with 3 cabins and a poolhouse. There are 16 TVs throughout the property in virtually every bedroom and cabin. We completed a major inside and front yard renovation two years ago. We worked with one of Atlanta's top designers to create a 5 star luxurious experience. The main house has 11 bedrooms and 9 full baths. The main floor has 2 kitchens. One is a professional kitchen for the chef in the family, while the other services a guest suite. The great room overlooks the lake, has a large flat screen tv, and a pool/ping pong table. The dining room table seats 12 comfortably and can easily add another table and chairs. There are additional tables and chairs to seat up to 36 on the screened porch.
There are 2 BR and 3 full Baths on this floor. There is a large 50 x 50 screened porch that overlooks the lake and pool area that is great for groups. We have 4 round tables and 36 chairs available to use in this space for dining or group gatherings.
The second den connects to a covered porch. Steps away is an 8 foot wide stone firepit that overlooks the pool and lake. It burns real wood, but has a gas starter for convenience. The basement has 2 BR and a full Bath. One room has 2 twin beds and the other has two king beds.
Upstairs you will find a 16 seat professional home theater with a 120 inch movie screen. There are 6 BR/4 BA upstairs, including a newly added master suite with a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and three 6 foot windows that overlook the beautiful back yard and lake. The other master suite is brand new and has four built in bunks in the room beside it. The main laundry room is upstairs, but there are two other ones on the property as well.
There are three cabins, each having a separate entry, den, small fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. Cabin 1 is steps from the main house, connected to the garage and has 2 BR, 1 BA. It has a queen bed and 4 built in bunk beds. Cabin 2 is 1 BR with a queen bed and 1 BA. Cabin 3 is one large BR with 5 twin beds, one queen bed and a pull out sofa downstairs, along with 1BA.
The Poolhouse is screened in and has a full size fridge, microwave, ice maker, full size bath, and two outdoor showers. It is steps away from the green egg grill on the patio. The back yard and lake views are seen from most rooms and the back yard is flat for the kids to play. There are three main outdoor decks to relax in and each one has plenty of ceiling fans to keep you cool in the summer. We are located in a quiet cove and surrounded by 15 acres of corps protected land, so it is very quiet. Enjoy fishing off the double deck party dock, or rent jet skis, pontoon boat, or ski boat at the nearby marina. We have two jet ski platforms and a place to tie your boat up.
Lake, pool, hot tub, home theater, pool table, gaga ball, tether ball, volleyball court, lodge setting...this is the place to host your family reunion or group get together. Gather as a group or break away into small conversations in our many sitting areas and outdoor seating. This is ideal for a smaller corporate retreat or executive gathering. Boards and leadership teams are welcome.
Please note: We do not rent cabins separately. When you rent, you get the entire facility, including the three cabins. We are not set up as a bed and breakfast, so please don't ask about renting cabins separately or renting part of the house. You get it all.
We are in a residential neighborhood with neighbors nearby. This is not the place for your loud party or events.
Please email the owner to request a floor plan to use for planning purposes. Will consider stays of any length but primarily rent for full weeks in the summer and three night minimums during the spring and fall.

We lived in Atlanta for 7 years before relocating to Gainesville, Ga. We wanted to find and create a homestead and gathering place for friends and family to get away from life's distractions and rest and build deeper relationships. We lived at The Ark for six years before realizing it had a bigger purpose and wasn't meant for our family of five. We added on, remodeled and renovated with the purpose of using it to house and provide rest to missionaries coming in from overseas. We now rent it out to cover the costs of continuing to do provide a haven to those who need it most.
Jeff Hylton purchased this house in 2006
We fell in love with Lake Lanier with its convenience to Atlanta, located in the quaint small town of Gainesville, and a short distance to the North Georgia mountains. My parents had recently moved to Gainesville and we wanted the kids to be near them as well. After living here a year, we found this special piece of property. It was rare to find 4 acres with a flat back yard to the water in a cove. It is surrounded by 15 acres on the right by corp protected land, so it is private and quiet. I have seen wild turkey, owls, deer, and plenty of other wildlife in the backyard. While we lived here, we owned chickens, goats and alpacas. The animal pen that we had has been turned into a parking area.
Our place is a unique property with 3 separate cabin living spaces as well as our home. I worked with a professional decorator to give every person a 5 star hotel experience. Great care has been taken to make sure mattresses are nice, sheets are soft, and guests feel pampered while they are here. Indoor and outdoor amenities continue to be added every year.
I'm sitting here recalling where I was just one short week ago - and it feels like a world away. Our company had a staff retreat for employees and family members at The Ark and it was an unbelievable event of a lifetime!
Location & First Impressions - the house was easy to find, yet secluded enough that we felt we had really gotten away from everything. The house has great curb appeal and the main entry foyer is warm and welcoming with views into the chef's kitchen. We rapidly unloaded our vehicles and began to explore.
Decor & Furnishings - We felt like we were on an episode of an HGTV show during the part of the show where they do the amazing reveal after the decorators have done their magic. At every turn we were delighted with surprisingly thoughtful designer details. Fabulously unique light fixtures, ample cozy furnishings to curl up in for a nap or to read a book were at every turn. With a large group, we also found the seating options for dining to be abundant while also providing a warm homelike setting. Everyone ran around choosing their rooms and oohing and ahhing over the bedding, room decor and overall ambiance of the house. It was wonderful. We really appreciated the calming color palette and several people asked if we could get a list of paint colors and the name of the decorator!
Amenities Inside & Out - Once everyone was settled into their rooms, we began to explore the grounds. The stunning lake view and well manicured landscape made a picture perfect setting for our retreat. We took advantage of the sports locker and enjoyed beach volleyball, basketball and ga-ga ball. The little ones especially loved jumping on the in ground trampoline - which had very comfy adirondack chairs for the adults. My favorite was breakfast on the cool and quiet porch.
Everyone loved the pool and enjoyed the comforts and convenience of the pool house with its kitchen and bathroom. In fact, none of us ever jumped in the lake at all - we swam in the pool and soaked in the hot tub instead. Our only regret was not having a cool enough night - or enough time - to light up the fire pit. It was so inviting with plenty of seating, and we even brought along smores to make. We'll have to save that for next time!
Later in the evenings, after a full day of sun and swimming, our crew enjoyed banana splits and then everyone relaxed for the night with a film festival in the movie room!
We'll never be able to top our staff retreat at The Ark - it was totally perfect.
I recently stayed here for a men's retreat and was truly impressed with how well everything was laid out. Super high quality with a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for both privacy and community. I was genuinely impressed and HIGHLY recommend staying here, especially if you're with a large group. It was excellent! Truly a remarkable place to stay.
Just wow! I was able to participate in a retreat with 25 others. This place was the best in providing literally everything which you would want! The facility was remarkably clean and provided an atmosphere which any company or family would desire. From the kitchen, to the outside sports area, to the theater, to the views and location, everything was topnotch. It is situated in an area where you can run or cycle in addition to the amenities which are offered on-site. It is so relaxing and well worth the price of a weekend or weekly stay.
Was here for a three-day executive retreat. Everything is first class - comfortable beds, great meeting rooms and plenty of space for a large group of guys to get comfortable - or get rowdy in a game of volleyball.
Very comfortable and easily used by a large number of participants. Family friendly and relationally well thought through. The meeting places are big enough for a crowd but small enough to be intimate. Great retreat location.
Our large family of 30+ had plenty of space to just sit and enjoy the serene landscaping as well as engage in a rousing game of gaga ball or a jump on the trampoline. There was plenty to do and communal areas large enough for us ALL to be together. The kitchen is a dream to prepare meals for a crowd, accommodating multiple cooks at the same time. Phenomenal concept and excellent execution! Cannot wait till next year.
