About Jim Massey

My name is Jim Massey. I am a Civil Engineer, General Contractor, and Real Estate Broker, born in Winston-Salem. I came to Roaring Gap in 1965 where I met and married my wife, Nancy. She is a registered nurse with a specialty in surgery in Elkin and my partner in the real estate and construction business. WE ARE NEW TO THE RENTAL BUSINESS AND WILL NEGOITATE OUR RATES BASED ON NUMBER OF NIGHTS AND NUMBER OF PEOPLE STAYING. WE WILL ALSO TALK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR BRINGING A PET.

Jim Massey purchased this chalet in 1998

Why Jim Massey chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

My company designed and built this house at about half its present size in 1966 for a couple from Winston-Salem. Years later we built them a bigger home two houses up the street, and sold this house to a couple from Florida. When it became available again in 1998, Nancy and I bought it because all the really good view lots had been built on and we had always dreamed of living on one of the spectacular view properties on Ridge Road. We gutted it down to the bare framing, doubled its size and built it all over again, finishing in 2000. We lived here for 10 years and then moved into a new home across the street in Olde Beau. Ultravista is presently for sale, but will not be shown when there is a guest in the house. LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR HOME BY VIEWING OUR MORE THAN 30 FIVE STAR REVIEWS!

What makes this chalet unique

Having designed and built almost all the view homes on Ridge Road, Nancy and I knew that the view was good, but didn't know it was spectacular until we lived there. I didn't know that sunrises sometimes are as beautiful as the best sunset. Also, I had no idea that a full moon could be so brilliantly exciting. Watching lightning storms in the valley from up here is really special. So are fireworks in valley communities on July 4th. When the fog is lying in the valley, the mountain tops look like islands in a cotton sea. And every night when the lights come on down below, called 'valley stars' by locals, it looks like a large city. The view is different every day.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jim,Thank you again for your gracious hospitality. We truly enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time. Everyone had nothing but good comments about the house, location and of course the beautiful view. I think we spent as much time on the deck as we could regardless of the weather!!! It was a perfect place for us!It was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to seeing you again in the not to distant future.Kind regards,Bobby

Year #4 and counting

  • 5 of 5

Our group of eight golfers was among the first to enjoy all the amenities that UltraVista has to offer and we're not going any where else any time soon. Already looking forward to 2017 and our fifth year taking advantage of Jim's most gracious hospitality. Each year, he has enhanced his property to appeal to many differing groups. We noticed this year that he had tiled in half of the garage to make a good place for kids to play, rain or shine.

The deck, however, remains our favored hangout. You cannot beat it.

Thanks for sharing, Jim.

Splendid June week in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our group of ten had a delightful stay in this house. The views were ever changing over the valley and the scenery spectacular. The house itself had everything and more. We especially appreciated the showers and the laundry facilities. The group of us were more than satisfied and would recommend this homeowner to anyone. Wonderful place!

Exceptional from the first view and breath.................................

  • 5 of 5

Open the front door and feel the world drift into the background. The view, the mountain scent. The cozy and inviting first floor and deck. Then you will need a map to wander the glorious array of rooms. stunning views and vistas from most bedrooms, the fragrant air wafting through. Showers, oh yes, be prepared to be pampered as well, the BIG soaking tub. Great pillows and linens. Rustic, modern and classic all combined to make everyone happy. Marvel at the Jade plants. Nothing is left wanting, you will feel at home at once. The host Jim is MOST gracious and accommodating.

WOW...WOW...WOW

  • 5 of 5

Jim,

Thank You. Its very hard to describe how incredible our weekend was staying at your incomparable mountain home. It was a unanimous "Best Place Ever" from our whole crew. Everything was awesome and soooo comfortable The bedrooms, sitting rooms, decks and views....I could go on and on but the best way to say it (and again unanimous) is "We definitely need to do this again". The gang is yelling at me to book it now for next year. Thanks to you and your lovely wife again. Your home and hospitality made the weekend.

Owner's Response: Hey Doug, every once in a while we get to meet a group like yours that just seems to be at home when they walk in. All your folks seemed to be interested in the fact that I designed and built it a long time ago, and that Nancy and I spent so many years living there, raising our kids, making addition after addition, while also keeping it up to date. We are so happy that it suited you and that you want to come back. We'll leave the key under the mat for you! Thank you so much - Jim

Family Gathering Christmas 2015

  • 5 of 5

Once again, it was the very best. Jim, what a "Bob Newhart!" Again, the guys "chef-fed" the entire stay. Decorations perfect of course, sentimental to see the familiar ones and new additions (tall tree, etc.); again, just like home. The sunrise, moon and stars were magnificent. Saturday evening we launched paper lanterns...it was a beautiful and spiritual too. INK us in 'cause we're comin' back and that's a fact! Making fond family memories! The Landsites

This cusom designed and built home, ULTRAVISTA, is located in High Meadows Development, home of the private High Meadows Golf and Country Club. Because the owner is a member, house guests can play golf most weekdays. The course is a meticulously maintained layout designed by the well known architect George Cobb. For more golf, guests may play across the street at Olde Beau Golf Club, which Curtis Strange called 'one of the greatest mountain golf courses ever built'. There are 2 more 18 hole courses within a 20 minute drive.

3 miles from High Meadows is the center of the famous 469 mile long Blue Ridge Parkway. The parkway provides sightseeing, hiking, bicycling, restaurants, and pleasurable driving to many points of interests.

4 miles from High Meadows is the entry to the 14,000 acre Stone Mountain State Park. Bring your camera, because there is a lot to see and do - scenic walking trails, flora & fauna, waterfalls, horse trails, camping, trout fishing, picknicking, rock climbing and much more. Here in Alleghany County is the developing New River State Park (New River is the second oldest river in the world) for camping, tubing, hiking, picknicking, etc.

11 miles north is Sparta, NC, our county seat and a great small town to visit. Nestled between the local mountains, you will find our Court House, Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Farmer's Hardware, many restaurants, delis, and coffee shops, museum, arts and craft stores, wonderful local pottery, artists, campgrounds, fitness center, antiques & collectibles, grocery stores, pet care, river recreation, sporting goods, winery, etc.

Vineyards and wine making comprise a huge industry in our area. Many wineries are within a 30 minute drive from ULTRAVISTA with tours, tasting, restaurants, and award winning wines.
