Laughing Bear home in Highlands, NC

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful mountain home. Awesome location close to downtown Highlands. Lovely 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath, great living and dining area. Open covered large porch with hot tub and stone fireplace is a 10+! There's also a screened in porch area. Our family gave it 5 stars and we would rent it again!! K. Evans (Atlanta)

Very nice get away from Atlanta!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at Laughing Bear. My favorite time was enjoying the fire outside on the covered deck with a cup of coffee and hearing nothing but birds. No people. Just birds. Second best was at night with a fire burning after getting out of the hot tub and listening to the owl. Not kidding. Real critters! My kids loved being "in the woods" as it feels even though it is a very convenient drive to town in less than 5 minutes. The wood guy delivered wood as requested and on time. House was in very good condition and clean. It is a nice cabin and has the feel of a cabin. Double master bedroom setup was ideal for my older dad and his wife to use main floor while I had upstairs master and kids used third bedroom. Gave them full access to main floor and outside deck area A wonderful experience for us even with it being rainy some. Nothing like listening to the rain outside hitting the tin roof as we sat under that oversized covered deck. Very peaceful. Thank you David for being such a great host. You were very organized in your instructions packet and you made it easy to enjoy your place. Everything worked in the house and you had everything we needed from utensils to pots and pans and also the Keurig. God bless you! Ha ha. We appreciate you sharing your home with us. WPH.

Third time and still loving this Highlands Home!

  • 5 of 5

We love this house - its so comfortable easy to use!

The hot tub is a morning and evening delight - easily holds 4 adults with room for more and its always clean and temp is just right!

The whole house is clean, bathrooms are large and kitchen is perfect for entertaining.

Our favorite spot is the wood burning fireplace on the metal roofed porch...even if it rains, we are happy on this porch.

Thanks to the owners who leave a few kitchen pantry items to use and they leave good instructions so we know how to take care of their nice amenities.

Could not be happier!

Mirror Lake Mildew Mess

  • 2 of 5

The owners went to great lengths giving instructions on how to handwash their heirloom china, use a squeegee to wipe down all the walls in the bathroom after showering, how to pace showers among guests to assure everyone has hot water, how to prevent bears from eating your trash, how to keep the noise down in the neighborhood with a 10 pm curfew, the proper way to use a six person hot tub restricted to two people, how not to abuse a $500 hot tub cover, as well as a list of other caveats. Would that he would have spent as much time ensuring there was no mold or mildew problem which this house reaks from and which we could not dispell after four days of heat, fans, HVAC, candles or Febreeze. We did not need to come home with Aspergillis Niger. This house should come off the market until the mold can be removed from the HVAC ductwork. The flagstone walkways are uneven which results in ankle sprains and tripping. The layout of the space is nice. The amenities in the baths were a welcome surprise. Highlands is a great destination and this home is close to town.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that these guests are unhappy with their stay, but their comments are UNTRUE & unsubstantiated. There is not a mold/mildew issue. Immediately following this review we asked our HVAC guys to check the home & they confirmed no problem. We just left 2 days prior to their visit & didn't have any signs of mold. There was a tremendous amount of pollen from the trees during that time. If I cleaned the table on the covered porch the next day it would be so thick again you could write your name on it. Perhaps their issue was the pollen? The other comments are also untrue. Nowhere do we limit the spa usage to 2 people, nor have a curfew. We simply ask guests to be respectful of neighbors concerning noise after 10 pm. We have kitchen cabinets with 2 sets of dishwasher safe china. There is also a china cabinet with special china, glasses, serving pieces in the dining area that we ask guests to handwash if they use it. The flagstone was professionally installed & is perfectly level with variations typical to stone. We give our & our housekeeper's personal cell numbers asking to be contacted immediately about any concerns. We were not. We give detailed information for the convenience of our guests, this was apparently interpreted as restrictions rather than helpful notes. We are upset that they feel this way. We are proud of our cottage and try to do everything we can to ensure that our guests have a wonderful vacation.

Perfect weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Our first time in Highlands was perfect! We stayed over Easter weekend with our 3 teenagers. The house is beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable. The little luxurious were greatly appreciated, Tocca hand soap, big fluffy white towels, linens, pillows, comforters. gourmet kitchen, hot tub, fireplace. ect. I could go on and on.... Do not hesitate to book this home. You will not be disappointed. We would love to spend all our holidays here! Thank you!
