Why Mariana Atkins chose Lot-et-Garonne

We fell in love with the house as soon as we stepped in and saw the view from the balacony. Galapian is a lovely village in the heart of Lot-et-Garonne and we realised that this was a place that we wanted to return to again and again. As the years have passed we have been fortunate to do just this and the house became a home away from home.

What makes this house unique

The house has enabled us to be immersed in rural France and the warmth and generosity of the neighbours has enriched our experience. Whether relaxing by the pool or enjoying the views on the balcony with a glass of wine, the house offers plenty of opportunities to unwind and live in a slower, gentler pace.

Restful stay ar Galapian village

  • 4 of 5

We spent very restful holidays in the village house. We enjoyed the view and the swimming pool by hot weather often. Nothing were missing and the owner and manager living in the village were nice and gave a good customer service

Beautiful village home with a lovely pool.

  • 5 of 5

This charming home exceeded our expectations. The views were amazing and the house was well equipped and made us feel at home. Two beautiful terraces and a well equipped kitchen made dining a delight. The private pool was a welcome oasis in the heat. The gentlemen caretakers provided expert guidance to many local events and made us feel welcome as locals. They made our stay special. The countryside and local villages were a delight to explore. We did not want to leave and wished we could have booked the house longer. A perfect place to relax, unwind and explore the countryside in France.

2 semaines très agréables

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Mariana !

Galapian Haven

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Galapian was easily the highlight of our trip around Europe. It was the most wonderful escape from the crowds and craziness of Europe in the summertime. I was concerned that my two teenage children may have found it too quiet but the swimming pool, bikes and boating on local canals made it a favourite for all of us. What we enjoyed most was how comfortable and homely it was with a great range of english classics, board games, tv and wifi, it was perfect spot to relax and recharge. The house is spacious, views are wonderful, beds are lovely and comfortable, linen is fresh and everything is clean. We managed a few a games of tennis on the local courts and had loads of fun cycling and walking through the countryside. It was the only place that we visited where we felt like the only tourists in town, the only place that we found where nobody spoke english! The locals in Galapian and nearby Aiguillon could not have been more welcoming. It was a treat to have a well equipped kitchen to cook in after a string of hotels. My children joked that it was better equipped than my kitchen at home, and it probably was. There is a prefect deck for BBQing, overlooking the pool and with views across the local countryside. We preferred the upstairs deck for coffee and pastries in the mornings. We found some wonderful local restaurants in Aiguillon and were lucky enough to stumble upon a local farmers market on our first morning there where we loaded up on all sorts of fresh produce. My daughter describes it as ‘our frenchest experience’.

peaceful retreat in beutiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

Charming house in this beautiful area of SW France. The house is comfortable and welcoming clean and well equipped and we started to relax from the moment we arrived. The views from the terraces are breathtaking, if you didn't want to do anything else but soak up the peace and beauty of the surroundings you couldn't ask for a better spot. The pool area is very private and secluded and is a great place to relax and enjoy some gentle excercise,

The house itself is on three levels so I wouldnt reccomend it for anyone who has impaired mobility or difficulty with stairs. Similarly it wouldn't be suitable for very young children, but older children would love exploring it I'm sure.whilst the area is probably a bit quiet for teenagers, but for couples its ideal.

The area around Galapian has much to offer with so much history and pretty Bastide towns in the area, most of which have charming restaurants with excellent food. There are lots of local markets around on different days so you could find a differant one every day if you wished. Its a place we look forward to returning too again and again

A wonderful home-away from home

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful home-away from home. There are plenty of books for holiday reading (and wonderful nooks and outdoor terraces where you can curl up for a quiet read) a kitchen equipped with the full range of cooking gear, plus all manner of sporting equipment. In short a family can have access to everything needed for an active holiday or a couple can experience it as a quiet retreat.

Stay a couple of weeks and you soon fall into the rhythm of this friendly village. The owners ensure everything is well organised by having local people to welcome you and ensure your stay is free from hassles. You can even take conversational French lessons from an experienced teacher who lives in the village.

The village is a short drive from Agen which is a train ride from Paris. It is an area dotted with villages and bastides that all have their own attractions as well as wonderful food and wine. It is also well placed if you want to take short overnight trips to the Dordogne, and the west coast (Arcachon and Cap Ferret are well worth the trip).

Highly recommended.
