The cottage consists of a living room, eat-in kitchen, two bedrooms, and 1 bathroom. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and has a very light and airy feel. The kitchen has recently been updated with new countertops, a new sink and faucet, newly stenciled kitchen floor, and paint on the walls and cabinets. I love to cook and have equipped the kitchen with all the tools I normally want. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has a full bed. We also have a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The full size bed has bed rails that slide out from under the mattress, making it a suitable bed for children. We also have a pack n play available.
It is located on a private half acre lot. Looking out the front and backs of the house, there are only trees visible. The two houses on the sides of the house are nicely screened by trees. There is a little stream passing through part of the property.
The cottage is walking distance to the center of Southwest Harbor, the causeway between Norwood Cove and Somes Sound, the ferry to the Cranberry Isles, and the Wendell Gilley Museum. Also nearby are Echo Lake and numerous mountains for hiking.
We offer weekly rentals starting and ending on Mondays. This is perfect for avoiding traveling during busy weekends in the summer! It's also a great option if you are spending a week on Mount Desert Island for a wedding!
We are an active family with two young children living outside Boston. We love hiking and biking and spending time outdoors with our kids.
Sylvie Smiley purchased this cottage in 2012
Sylvie grew up camping on Mount Desert Island (MDI) every summer and continued the tradition of visiting the island into adulthood. David fell in love with the island too and we want our kids to also grow up coming to MDI. We love the location of this house. It's walking distance to so much and a short drive to even more. We really enjoy walking to restaurants, shopping, and the water.
We spent a wonderful two weeks in Acadia National Park in June, and our visit was enhanced by our stay in this lovely cottage. The night we arrived, we looked out the picture window and saw three deer looking straight at us as if they were welcoming us and wishing us a nice stay. The cottage has everything one would need, comfortable furnishings and art work by the owner, a kitchen well-stocked with whatever you need to prepare a sandwich or a gourmet meal and a book case filled with books for adults and children. The cottage is a short walk into the town of Southwest Harbor, which has a surprising number of restaurants for a small town. It is an excellent location for taking different hikes through Acadia or visiting the neighboring towns. You won’t be disappointed if you make Cameline Cottage your home away from home.
Stayed here last week with my sister. Cameline is clean, comfortable, well stocked and perfect for 2 adults. Southwest Harbor was a convenient location for our explorations of Acadia Natl Park, Bar Harbor, the western edge of Mount Desert Island and even the Schoodic Peninsula. We would definitely stay here again.
Great location on the "quiet side" - pretty property and nice amenities. Don't miss a morning walk through the woods to the charming nearby cove - very memorable. We left items in the cottage and the owner was wonderful in following up with us before we even realized it and promptly mailed everything to us. Wonderfully accomodating - would re-visit!
Great cottage in a great location. Owner communicated well and everything was as she said it would be. Would stay here again anytime.
The location of this fully-stocked cottage couldn't be better. We easily walked with two young children everywhere in Southwest Harbor. We couldn't believe how quiet the setting was at night. The beach is a lovely walk away.
The house had everything we needed. All kitchen gadgets were new and nice. A clean house, comfortable and well-appointed. We would definitely stay here again.
Sylvie was very pleasant and helpful.
If you are looking for a place on the quiet side and don't mind driving 20 minutes or so for the main National Park highlights - this is the perfect spot. We really enjoyed our stay here. The owner left a wonderful book with lots of suggestions for places to eat and things to do in the area as well as a well loved hiking guide. There is a nice market close to the house to stock your fridge. We ate breakfast and packed a picnic lunch then had a wonderful dinner out. There is a fun trail to a beautiful spot very close to the house which we visited nightly, there were plenty of fun snails and shells to discover- even a starfish or two! We had a bit of a problem with the washer and we had no problems getting ahold of the owners and getting help right away. Thanks for letting us stay - next time we will stay longer!
I stayed at this cottage in May with my husband and 6 year old daughter. We loved this little place and I will definitely stay here again if we make another trip to the area. Everything we needed was provided, including the little extras (games, puzzles, sand toys, beach towels, fans, extension cords, etc...). The kitchen was better stocked than in any other rental where I've stayed. We cooked almost every meal there and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms had plenty of room, plus a chest of drawers in each where we could unpack our things.
My daughter loved the backyard and spent lots of time playing out there. She found salamanders, collected shells, and saw a few deer. She loved the walk to the nearby cove, which was a great place to enjoy the water.
Since this was my first trip to the area, I didn't know if I wanted to stay in Bar Harbor or another part of the island. I'm so glad we stayed in Southwest Harbor! This little village had everything we needed, including a couple of small grocery stores, coffee shop, and a great public library, but without all the crowds and craziness of Bar Harbor. There were so many great things to do on the western side of the island that we only ventured over to the Bar Harbor area one day of the week we stayed. The beautiful Echo Lake is less than 10 minutes away and we spent hours there enjoying the sand beach and crystal clear water. There are several great hiking trails in the area too.
I can't recommend this place highly enough. We loved everything about it!
