Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage

The cottage consists of a living room, eat-in kitchen, two bedrooms, and 1 bathroom. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and has a very light and airy feel. The kitchen has recently been updated with new countertops, a new sink and faucet, newly stenciled kitchen floor, and paint on the walls and cabinets. I love to cook and have equipped the kitchen with all the tools I normally want. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has a full bed. We also have a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The full size bed has bed rails that slide out from under the mattress, making it a suitable bed for children. We also have a pack n play available.

It is located on a private half acre lot. Looking out the front and backs of the house, there are only trees visible. The two houses on the sides of the house are nicely screened by trees. There is a little stream passing through part of the property.

The cottage is walking distance to the center of Southwest Harbor, the causeway between Norwood Cove and Somes Sound, the ferry to the Cranberry Isles, and the Wendell Gilley Museum. Also nearby are Echo Lake and numerous mountains for hiking.

We offer weekly rentals starting and ending on Mondays. This is perfect for avoiding traveling during busy weekends in the summer! It's also a great option if you are spending a week on Mount Desert Island for a wedding!

About Sylvie Smiley

We are an active family with two young children living outside Boston. We love hiking and biking and spending time outdoors with our kids.

Sylvie Smiley purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sylvie Smiley chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

Sylvie grew up camping on Mount Desert Island (MDI) every summer and continued the tradition of visiting the island into adulthood. David fell in love with the island too and we want our kids to also grow up coming to MDI. We love the location of this house. It's walking distance to so much and a short drive to even more. We really enjoy walking to restaurants, shopping, and the water.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a wonderful two weeks in Acadia National Park in June, and our visit was enhanced by our stay in this lovely cottage. The night we arrived, we looked out the picture window and saw three deer looking straight at us as if they were welcoming us and wishing us a nice stay. The cottage has everything one would need, comfortable furnishings and art work by the owner, a kitchen well-stocked with whatever you need to prepare a sandwich or a gourmet meal and a book case filled with books for adults and children. The cottage is a short walk into the town of Southwest Harbor, which has a surprising number of restaurants for a small town. It is an excellent location for taking different hikes through Acadia or visiting the neighboring towns. You won’t be disappointed if you make Cameline Cottage your home away from home.

Fantastic week!

The cottage is exactly as advertised: clean and cute, with everything you need for a great vacation. The location is ideal and the beds are very comfy. Two thumbs up!

Ok, but fell short on some key things

  • 3 of 5

This cottage was OK, but you should absolutely NOT rent it if you have a bad back. The adorable antique beds have antique mattresses to match that are incredibly uncomfortable. They should have skipped all the antique decor and invested in some decent beds because, let's face it, that's most of what your looking for on vaca (a decent place to rest at the end of the day, which this place Definately didn't provide). Also, this place is not on the water. They really need to take that picture off the website. The pic they posted is anout a 10 min walk. I gave it 3 stars because it was clean and the kitchen was nicely stocked with everything you need. The bathroom also needs work. The small shower is completely enclosed with a shower curtain and if you turn the wrong way it sticks to you. It also makes for some awkward bathing if you have young children that can't bath themselves.

Great trip. Great place to stay. A little away from Bar Harbor, but just what we wanted. House was as advertised. Fit our family well.

Just right for our Acadia National Park vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed here for a week in June when we visited Acadia National Park. The cottage is small, but well maintained. The owners have stocked it with all of the kitchen and bathroom supplies needed. This location was convenient to all that we wanted to do. Sylvie left a lot of great information on trails, hikes, and activities to check out while we were there. We enjoyed our time and would recommend this property.

cozy cottage in quiet Southwest Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage in Southwest Harbor very much. Our two daughters loved the backyard as well as the books and toys. It's very suitable for families with (young) children! It's only a 5-minute drive to Echo Lake which has a sandy beach and shallow water. Southwest Harbor is a cute little village: We recommend "Grumpy's" for breakfast and "Quietside Cafe" for lunch. We also loved the local library which issues short-term library cards. The only minor inconvenience is the distance to the main attractions of Acadia National Park as well as to Bar Harbor. It takes 20 minutes to get there.

Clean and Adorable

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I spent 3 nights here in May of 2017. We found the cottage to be even cuter than pictured, very clean and very well maintained. The neighborhood is quiet and restful.

We had a couple questions while we were here and Silvie was very quickly responsive and helpful. We were grateful for the use of the washer and dryer too.

Families with small children will find toys, books and dishes for their little ones.

One item of note: If a very firm mattress is important to you the bed in the 2nd bedroom could be problematic as it is on the soft side.

I can recommend a stay were without reservation.
