Enjoy Lakeside Fun in the Endless Mountain at Historic Harveys Lake

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath, 3 story home with 80 feet of shaded lakefront

Three story lakefront home at beautiful Harveys Lake.

Newly painted rooms throughout.

We have a spacious 80 feet of lakefront with one of the few, deep, shaded lots on the lake, complete with a grassy lawn. The lakefront is fenced and tall arbor vidae bushes provide privacy from the road. Walk from the lawn down to the concrete patio and large wooden dock. Enjoy the swing under the trees and watch the boats go by. Eat your meals on the dock under the sun umbrella, or soak up some sun and swim- you will have no trouble filling your days with fun and relaxation here. The second floor of the boathouse features a rec room and deck that provides expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. This is a terrific spot for watching the Sunday sailboat races.

There are so many perfect places to sit and relax- in addition to the lakefront. The home has a large back deck with a wooden table and benches under a covered roof- another wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast or a game of cards.

If you ever want to leave the house, and no one will blame you if you don't, drive around the lake to Grotto Pizza or Jones' Potato Pancakes- two legendary restaurants. Jones' is cash only and has a very simple menu of freshly made potato pancakes, pierogies, and just a few other items. The Grotto has a formal dining room, a sports bar, and outside seating with views of the lake. The Grotto also delivers, so you don't actually need to leave the house! The pizza tastes best enjoyed on the dock on a summer evening!

Gorgeous Rickett's Glen State Park is located about 25 minutes from the house, and with multiple waterfalls and hiking trails, this is a must see. Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains are about 20 minutes away. Tunkhannock's downtown features shops and restaurants, a renovated historic movie theater, and even a tasting room for a local winery.

Montage Mountain, Big Boulder, and Elk Mountain are the closest ski resorts, with Montage being the closest. Beautiful stone fireplace in The Lake House living room features a new electric fireplace for instant ambiance on a chilly day- perfect for a romantic getaway!

About Katie Tripp- Owner

I grew up in this house and I love this house, the Lake, and the wonderful community of people who live here. I'm looking forward to sharing this special place with others, so they can create wonderful memories here, as I have done, and continue to do.

Katie Tripp- Owner purchased this house in 1970

Why Katie Tripp- Owner chose Northeastern Pennsylvania

This is a really unique property on the lake. The railroad used to run along where our house sits, so we have a wider lakefront than many. Having a shaded grassy yard on the lake side is almost non-existant on any other property here. The house is spacious and fun- lots of great places to gather or to give everyone their space. And there are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy. This is a beautiful area for vacationing, in any season. The autumn leaves are spectacular, as they reflect off the lake, and the hill behind the house is perfect for sledding- just stop at the back shed or else you might end up in the garden- I did that a few times as a kid. When the lake freezes, you can ice skate down by the boat launch where no one has docks that they bubble to keep the ice away. If you're lucky enough to be at the house when the crocuses pop up, or the hyacinth bloom, and the rhododendron show off their bright pink flowers, then you know it's spring and summer is just around the corner. You can walk bike ride around the lake, or just sit still and watch the cars go by. This is home.

What makes this house unique

The shaded lake front is unique. The layout of the property on the hill side allows you to access 'ground level' from all three stories of the house, as you move up the hill. With all the stairs, you'll be sure to get your workout in!

The lake house was great. The house is well kept and everything was as advertised . We had great time getting the family together. We fished, played pool. enjoyed potato pancakes and the grotto. We would love to stay a weekend when we had better weather.

A fun getaway by the lake

  • 4 of 5

My family got together at the Lake House for a long weekend, to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. Unfortunately the weather did not comply, but we knew we were rolling the dice for the first weekend of April. The house was very nice and fit our group of 6 very comfortably, with room to gather and eat on the 1st floor by the kitchen, and an even bigger common room on the 2nd floor. Because of the rain, we didn't get over to the boat house or enjoy the deck. Katie, the owner, was very easy to reach and even helped us tremendously on Saturday morning when the hot water system went out! She called the manufacturer and worked out a solution within about 15 minutes.

This would be a great "home base" for a weekend or longer trip with activities planned on the lake or in the nearby state parks. Even for an indoor affair, the house is roomy and well equipped. We didn't watch any TV, but it looked like the only one was an old tube-style with a VCR (no DVD). Linens and towels were a mixed bag but ample. The house was clean and in good repair, with all the major appliances, including a small dishwasher and full size washer & dryer, and plenty of plates and flatware. We packed in all of our food so I can't comment on any local eateries.

All in all my family had a fun time and were glad to have stayed here. I'd love to see the place later in the Spring or Summer!

Unsurpassed lakeside getaway for families

  • 5 of 5

We just returned for our 4th consecutive year for a "summer's end" family gathering at the Harveys Lake house, so you already know this is will be a positive review. The combination of an extensive dock, boat house and 3-level home on a scenic fresh water lake has been accurately and positively described by other reviewers, as well as me. (Please see previous R.B. reviews since 2013). To these reviews, I add the following: You can count on a very clean, well equipped and relaxing environment, inside and outside, at Katie's lake house. You are assured of an honest, competent, flexible and well organized owner, who engages an equally competent property manager and housekeeper. If your 3-generation family resembles ours, there is something for everyone here. Toddlers will love the sandy area and steps into clean, shallow water, while older kids and adults will love the 9 ft depth at dock's end. Beginning kayakers will take their first attempts on the lake, while more experienced kayakers will love the quiet weekdays when there are fewer watercraft. Fishermen, women and kids with PA licenses (or 3 day guest licenses) will reel in lots of sunnies and blue gils. Food from a full service super market (20 minute drive) will be prepared in the house's fully equipped kitchen and carried a short distance to the dock, for easy, fresh meals. A grill is available if you wish to bring charcoal. A local pizza restaurant will deliver take-out to the dock if you wish. Private sleeping quarters in 3 bedrooms and a small library will be supplemented by 2 comfortable sofas. Bed linens and towels provided. Older family members may complain about steep steps into the house, and thus spend more time on the dock. Whoever is lucky enough to get the 3rd floor suite, with a wall of windows plus skylights, will wake up grateful for the start of each day. Thank you sincerely , Katie, for sharing your wonderful home, dock and lake with us and other visitors.

Harveys Lake is a beautiful and fun vacation spot. During the summer, enjoy a swim in the lake, go boating, or watch the world go by while lounging on the dock. Drive to Jones' for Potato Pancakes or enjoy a piping hot pizza from the world famous Grotto Pizza. Venture out to the Endless Mountains for an afternoon of shopping in downtown Tunkhannock or drive out to Eagles Mere. Less than 30 minutes away is spectacular Rickett's Glen State Park, with its breathtaking waterfalls and superb hiking along a clear flowing stream. Enjoy fall in all its splendor, when the leaves come ablaze and local orchards offer apples and cider. The Lake provides a great winter retreat as well. Sled down the back hill on the property or drive down to the boat launch where the absence of impellers allow the lake to freeze up to the shoreline for ice skating. Spring time brings rhododendrons and new life to the trees, with the promise of summer just around the corner. Harveys Lake and the Endless Mountains provide an idyllic and relaxing retreat at any time of year.
