Overview

Northeastern Pennsylvania House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath, 3 story home with 80 feet of shaded lakefront

Three story lakefront home at beautiful Harveys Lake.

Newly painted rooms throughout.

We have a spacious 80 feet of lakefront with one of the few, deep, shaded lots on the lake, complete with a grassy lawn. The lakefront is fenced and tall arbor vidae bushes provide privacy from the road. Walk from the lawn down to the concrete patio and large wooden dock. Enjoy the swing under the trees and watch the boats go by. Eat your meals on the dock under the sun umbrella, or soak up some sun and swim- you will have no trouble filling your days with fun and relaxation here. The second floor of the boathouse features a rec room and deck that provides expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. This is a terrific spot for watching the Sunday sailboat races.

There are so many perfect places to sit and relax- in addition to the lakefront. The home has a large back deck with a wooden table and benches under a covered roof- another wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast or a game of cards.

If you ever want to leave the house, and no one will blame you if you don't, drive around the lake to Grotto Pizza or Jones' Potato Pancakes- two legendary restaurants. Jones' is cash only and has a very simple menu of freshly made potato pancakes, pierogies, and just a few other items. The Grotto has a formal dining room, a sports bar, and outside seating with views of the lake. The Grotto also delivers, so you don't actually need to leave the house! The pizza tastes best enjoyed on the dock on a summer evening!

Gorgeous Rickett's Glen State Park is located about 25 minutes from the house, and with multiple waterfalls and hiking trails, this is a must see. Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains are about 20 minutes away. Tunkhannock's downtown features shops and restaurants, a renovated historic movie theater, and even a tasting room for a local winery.

Montage Mountain, Big Boulder, and Elk Mountain are the closest ski resorts, with Montage being the closest. Beautiful stone fireplace in The Lake House living room features a new electric fireplace for instant ambiance on a chilly day- perfect for a romantic getaway!

About Katie Tripp- Owner

I grew up in this house and I love this house, the Lake, and the wonderful community of people who live here. I'm looking forward to sharing this special place with others, so they can create wonderful memories here, as I have done, and continue to do.

Katie Tripp- Owner purchased this house in 1970

Why Katie Tripp- Owner chose Northeastern Pennsylvania

This is a really unique property on the lake. The railroad used to run along where our house sits, so we have a wider lakefront than many. Having a shaded grassy yard on the lake side is almost non-existant on any other property here. The house is spacious and fun- lots of great places to gather or to give everyone their space. And there are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy. This is a beautiful area for vacationing, in any season. The autumn leaves are spectacular, as they reflect off the lake, and the hill behind the house is perfect for sledding- just stop at the back shed or else you might end up in the garden- I did that a few times as a kid. When the lake freezes, you can ice skate down by the boat launch where no one has docks that they bubble to keep the ice away. If you're lucky enough to be at the house when the crocuses pop up, or the hyacinth bloom, and the rhododendron show off their bright pink flowers, then you know it's spring and summer is just around the corner. You can walk bike ride around the lake, or just sit still and watch the cars go by. This is home.

What makes this house unique

The shaded lake front is unique. The layout of the property on the hill side allows you to access 'ground level' from all three stories of the house, as you move up the hill. With all the stairs, you'll be sure to get your workout in!

Super relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This was our third year at Katie's beautiful retreat. Katie is so easy to work with. The house was as wonderful as always. The lake was clear and a warm 78 degrees. The neighbors welcomed us back and we spent a fun filled week with family and friends. The wide lakefront property gives everyone a place to hang out. We enjoyed all the areas around the house and the lake. Thanks again! Be back next summer.... we can't wait!

Easy, good vibe

  • 5 of 5

What I enjoyed the most was dealing with Katie, the owner. It was really easy, and I got my security deposit back very quickly. Exactly what I hope for when I book through VRBO. The house has a wonderful vibe that just feels good when you walk in the door. It is still stuck in the 1970s but it is a very nice 70s, and seems charming rather than anything negative. The stairs are steep, but the 2 year old was able to get around no problem. The back yard is all enclosed which made it easy with our dog,(although lots of stairs again) and it was really nice to have so much open yard. Didn't use the lake because it was January (!) but I bet that is AWESOME in the summer. I use Virgin Mobile cellular and had a little trouble with signal but that is not unexpected--I bet the larger carriers would be fine. I read one review that said there was not enough eating seats, I think this must have changed because there are 2 tables, one seats 4 and the other seats 4-6. I loved the way the sunlight came in the double door in the morning. My bedroom was very dark and quiet--so many rentals/hotel don't think about light-- however, if you are not a morning person, bring a mask if you are staying in the master 3rd floor with skylights. Also, the heat unit in that room kept going on and we felt awkward about trying to figure out the controls as there are warnings all over not to, so earplugs might help on that 3rd floor too. The road is dangerous but it would be fine if the natives would condescend to travel at less than supersonic speeds.I recommend this for everyone except people who have trouble with stairs, and those who are looking for brand new updates. We have family in the area--my in laws!--and this house made my trip soooo much nicer! Should we need a place again I will be renting this house again. Also, it had the BEST area guide I have EVER seen, hotel or otherwise. Thumbs Up!

Beautiful house on Harveys Lake

  • 5 of 5

The house was fabulous for my family of for adults and 3 children ages 15, 14 and 8. We gathered in the living area by the fireplace, played games watched old movies and talked about all the cool things in the house and pictures on the wall. I loved not having the internet and cable for my time there. We cooked big meals and the kitchen had everything you could imagine. Katie was awesome and I was trilled to find out she has done so much work with the manatee in Florida which I admired and enjoyed while living in Florida. We hike about ten miles in Ricketts Glen which is only 25 minutes from the lake house then came back and relaxed in the jetted bath. I am hoping to go back when it snows I'm sure the lake is just lovely that time of year.

A great place for a relaxing weekend.

  • 4 of 5

This place's amenities are fantastic. Let's work our way up from the lakefront. First, there's a dock that sits about a foot above the water. The lake seems to get deep quickly, and if it wasn't October, I'd have taken a running leap off of the dock, despite my fear of fish. The nearby ladder would make a quick exit very possible. Equally far into the lake is the boathouse. The boathouse is so named because there's a boat living inside it, but up above, there's a room full of fun. There's a pool table and a dartboard, and a sliding glass door. Outside that, moving back toward the lake, is a structure similar to the dock, called a deck. It has a table and again, if it wasn't October, I'd have thought about leaping into the water from the deck. I don't think the water would be deep enough for that, and I would have to be rushed to the hospital. The fish would eat me before I reached the ladder, which would be much further away. There's also a kayak and stairs to get her into the water. It was October, and the kayak filled with an inch or two of water, but I did it anyway. There's a two seater swing for folks to enjoy the views of the lake as well. The trees block the yard from the whizzing cars, and across the street is where the living happens.

My only gripe for a place that sleeps as many as it does is that it doesn't feed as many as it does. There is no large table to accommodate a meal for all the people who may be staying within. The first night, we got grotto pizza and only half of us had arrived, so eating was easy. By the second night, with 8 adults and 2 children, we had to eat dinner in waves. In the summer, there are enough tables outside, but for the colder months, it might be best to eat out. The bedrooms were spacious, and the master bedroom which housed my wife and i had a fantastic view of the lake. Unfortunately, it had no door (it's the entire third floor) so any noise created late at night or early in the mornings filtered right in.

Behind the house is even more decking. I explored it before everyone arrived, but we didn't get a chance to use it due to the rain. Two beagles ran into the yard after we had unloaded a car, and I'm not sure where they disappeared to up above the decking (the house is built on a hill). It was too rainy to check, but I think they found their way out.

I really had a wonderful weekend here, and I can't think of any of the 9 of us who wouldn't agree. Communication with the owner was very easy.

Great Place to Stay for the WB Triathlon

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I rented the house for a week as I was participating in the annual Wilkes-Barre Triathlon that is held on the lake. Our stay was fantastic. The house was clean and ready for us. The yard and dock across the street was perfect for us as we had brought our dogs along and it was perfectly fenced in. Our favorite part of the property was the pristine views from the private dock. Many a cup of coffee and glasses of wine was enjoyed there! My only complaint, and it really isn't one, is that the date of the triathlon has changed back to August and the house is already booked. Katie if there is a cancellation, call me!

Excellent experience at lake house and dock

  • 5 of 5

Our 3-generation group just returned for a third year, ample evidence of the terrific appeal of this lakeside vacation retreat. The 3 level house is clean, well furnished and comfortable. But the lakeside amenities are the top reason for our family's repeat vacations here. From early morning to late at night, we spends countless relaxing hours in the park-like setting with a spacious dock, tables, umbrellas and beautiful views of the lake. If you live in the northeast PA region, this lake house is a perfect summer gathering spot for family and friends. If you are from outside the area, you can travel light and still enjoy an active, outdoor vacation here. A kayak is available with flotation vest. Bed linens and towels are provided, there are indoor laundry facilities, and a large grocery store is just 20 minutes away. For outdoor fun, Harveys Lake is unbeatable: clean, deep freshwater for swimming and/or fishing. Next to the dock is a play area for kids, with plenty of colorful water toys, and a safe, shallow area for children to wade in the water. The owner allows pets on a case-by-case basis, and the fenced-in area beneath shade trees is certainly dog friendly. We have found the owner, Katie, to be gracious and accommodating, and her local property manager to be flexible and helpful. We intend to reserve the lake house again in the future. If you visit once, I believe you too will return.

Harveys Lake is a beautiful and fun vacation spot. During the summer, enjoy a swim in the lake, go boating, or watch the world go by while lounging on the dock. Drive to Jones' for Potato Pancakes or enjoy a piping hot pizza from the world famous Grotto Pizza. Venture out to the Endless Mountains for an afternoon of shopping in downtown Tunkhannock or drive out to Eagles Mere. Less than 30 minutes away is spectacular Rickett's Glen State Park, with its breathtaking waterfalls and superb hiking along a clear flowing stream. Enjoy fall in all its splendor, when the leaves come ablaze and local orchards offer apples and cider. The Lake provides a great winter retreat as well. Sled down the back hill on the property or drive down to the boat launch where the absence of impellers allow the lake to freeze up to the shoreline for ice skating. Spring time brings rhododendrons and new life to the trees, with the promise of summer just around the corner. Harveys Lake and the Endless Mountains provide an idyllic and relaxing retreat at any time of year.
