We loved this hidden gem of a neighborhood that we found, and also the beautiful views of the mountains from the property.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy all this neighborhood offers within walking distance, a recreation centre, a library, grocery stores, various shops, restaurants, a kids play park, and a short walk to Saxe Point park on the ocean. The large decks provide a good deal of enjoyable outdoor space, with a wonderful view of the ocean and mountains. This is a very safe and friendly neighborhood that is centrally located.

Exactly what we were looking for

We loved the house! We had a group of 5 and a toddler. It worked perfect for what we needed. Loved being able to relax on the deck. We would definitely stay there again.

Dirty & Decrepit

Where do I even begin.First thing was the long steep stairs up to the unit, where there hundreds of huge jagged rocks balancing along side of the stairway ledge.Unsafe for kids and adults! Then there was the layer of black dust all over the dining room table & chairs. So much dust that my husband left an imprint of where he sat on the chair.The cheap furniture & finishings are falling apart. Baseboards are coming off of the patchy walls.Part of particle board are exposed on the cheap Ikea dining table.The faux leather on the dining chairs is cracking & ripping.The toss cushions are grey & tattered.The once cream coloured couch is grey & black.Then there's the linens.I found somewhere else's hairs on the extra pillows.All of the mismatched linens on the bed & extra linens have a thin velvety feel to them from being so worn down.All the linens also have a musty old smell to them. All of the pillows are lumpy & no more than maybe 1.5 inches thick.There were orange, yellow & brown stains on one of the comforters.There were also yellow stains all over the inside of the pillows. Two of the mattresses had stains on them.The worst was the mattress in the front room.The dark brown stains were the size of sewer covers. One stain at the head of the bed & the other around the middle.Then there's the bath towels of varying colours and sizes, discoloured, tattered & thin. None of the deficiencies above have been fixed or upgraded as the owner has promised past guest.We did bring the dirty linens & dust issues up to the owner. He blamed it on the terrible cleaner & offered to clean it himself while we go out again.We didn't want to have to leave right after checking-in, while the owner cleaned what should have been cleaned before we checked-in.So I cleaned it myself & washed all the disgusting linens in two loads.Fun Vaca! Honeslty seemed like the owner raided a squatters house to furnished this unit.The deficiencies above would have taken him hours to fix & clean. Hours that we were supposed to be using the unit we paid for! I also didn't like that there was no deadbolt or lock from the inside.I didn't feel at ease knowing the owner, who lives downstairs could come in whenever he wanted.Also the walls are paper thin.You can hear the people upstairs talking, laughing, flushing the toilet, running the water.First night I listened to a woman wailing, not crying, wailing, and a boy shouting from 1-3:30am.And the list goes on & on.I will NEVER stay here again.NEVER

Great for Family Get Togethers - Needs some TLC

We had adults & 2 young children in our group and it was a great for that - a lot better than trying to have a family group at a hotel. But.... it definitely needs some updating, some serious furniture cleaning (especially the big sectional) and some repairs. The patio doors did not shut properly, toaster oven did not work and towels/linens were pretty thin. We didn't find any bath mats either. Some mattress toppers and new pillows would also help a lot. One of the BBQ burners was burned out & TV & Ceiling Fan remote batteries needed replacing as well. Some of the hot tub jets were not functioning. Just a lot of "little" things that, if attended to, would go a long way to making this go from Average to Good/Excellent.

On the upside - lots of dishes, cutlery, etc. Robes provided for hot tubbers. Washer/Dryer new and worked really well. The trampoline was not there during our visit, but the property is very close to a playground for the kids and lots of nice walks - close to Saxe Point Park, Macaulay Point Park & Cairn (High Rock) Park. Some geocaches close for the kids too. Definitely a great location and decks would have been awesome if the weather had co-operated.

Convenient but nothing to write home about

The rental is in a nice location and we were grateful to find it since the options for a big group seem really limited in the area, but it was hard to look past the low quality of construction and furnishings.

On the positive side, the flat (it's the middle floor of a three-unit structure) was spacious enough to fit several adult couples and the deck space is peaceful, there are laundry machines and a hot tub, and it is located in a quiet neighborhood that's a short drive away from most Victoria attractions. It was clean and the hosts made check in/out really streamlined and easy.

But unfortunately the interior is a missed opportunity with cheap, flimsy furniture, loose particleboard countertops that are chipped and broken on the corners, odd dark paint colors, tons of flimsy shelves with nothing on them, and bottom-of-the-line showers and sink fixtures. It was hard not to draw comparisons to the Bluth Model Home from Arrested Development for those who are familiar.

But like I said, it totally worked for us and I'd much prefer a sub-par buildout to a property that isn't clean, and we mostly noticed those things because it has such great potential if a little more work and money went into it. We had a good time in the area and would highly recommend Fol Epi bakery for breakfast (a 5 minute drive), walking down to Saxe Point park (10 minute walk), and swimming at Thetis Lake in the summer (10-15 minute drive).

All in all we had a good trip and would still come back to stay at this property if it was the best big group / family option in the area, but hope that next time there will be a few updates made to the interior.

Owner's Response: The pictures of the suite are fairly recent, about 2 years old so offer a pretty accurate picture of the suite. The suite has standard fixtures and doesen't have any granite or stone counter tops. The finishings are not high end, but wouldn't be classified as low end either. There is a few small chips on one corner of the countertop. I did notice that the coffee table is getting worn and will be replaced over the winter. There is white melamine shelving in most of the bedrooms that offer plenty of storage space as well as desk space for guests. Since this guest has checked out we have removed a large desk/storage unit out of one of them and repainted that room was has streamlines it considerably. We will be updating another bedroom over the winter and look to streamline the furnishing and repainting.

Good location but could use a facelift.

Excellent location. Enjoyed our stay and property has all the necessary facilities with plenty of space, one would expect in a four bedroom abode. However, some of the beds were a little uncomfortable. Kettle and toaster could be improved. Washing machine and dryer worked well.

Owner's Response: I contacted this guest to get clarification on some of the issues that he experiences. Apparently one of the bedrooms had the wrong sheets put on to it, and they kept coming off. We have since changed cleaners as we were having several issues improper setup of the suite. He also mentioned that the landscaping needed improvement. We are currently completing a large scale landscaping revewal that will be completed later this fall which will revamp the garden area of this suite and the rest of the property. Currently most of the hard landscaping is done (rockwall, fence work, terassing), the front lawn area has been seeded and the rear lawn & garden area will be completed this fall.

Comfortable flat with very nice deck.

We enjoyed our stay there. The flat was very convenient and well equipped. Bedding is very mfor 9 people. The owner was very helpful when we needed anything. Very suitable for children as well with the trampoline and the playground just down the street.
