About Ben Edgar
Avid Hiker, which is what brought me to this property after hiking in the White Mountains for 25 years. Purchased the 17 acres of land three years ago and built the cabin in the last year on weekends while camping on site. I like to refer to the property as My Side of the Mountain, because of the young adult book by the same name.
Ben Edgar purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Ben Edgar chose Jefferson
You are out in the middle of nature abutting the White Mountain National Forest with no neighbors within view and the closet one is about 0.4 miles. This newly built cabin is 1200 feet up a gravel driveway and is off grid with a solar electric system with batteries. We have 12 volt LED lighting and AC power for the fridge, hot water heater and outlets. There are also USB charging stations for your phones and tablets. Cell phone reception is very good with Verizon and there is 4G and LTE service. The cabin does not have WIFI or a TV. It is meant as a getaway and to get unplugged. The cabin does have two propane direct vent heaters and a propane stove in the kitchen. The Kitchen does have an undercounter fridge, stove, and large sink, but does not have a microwave or coffee maker. We do have a teapot and french press. We also do not provide a hair dryer.
What makes this Cabin unique
There are two mountain bikes, hiking poles, and snow shoes at the cabin. We also have the AMC guidebook and trail maps for the white mountains to borrow and return please. The 20 mile long Presidential Rail Trail bike path is about 1.5 miles from the cabin.

Cabin was exactly as described and the views were amazing. We got there first of October and it was downright cold for this Florida boy. Down in the twenties one night and the thirties the other nights. We did use the porch the first night. Cabin was very comfortable. Location is near most any place you would want to go. Tree colors were just about perfect especially over at Mt. Washington area. Would definitely stay here again.
Comfy and cozy!
The cabin is superb for getting away from it all—clean, cozy, great views, super fire pit, and great location for hiking.
More than you can imagine
Incredible sunsets, sturdy beds, and an off-the-grid feel, this place is magical. Four of us stayed while we climbed nearby Mt. Martha and Mt. Washington's Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. Ben's place, run by solar power is just perfect for anyone looking for a real mountain experience. Owner is responsive, helpful and a good honest bloke. One warning: If you hike up nearby Owls Head Trail, coat yourself in bug spray. and avoid returning in late afternoon, which apparently is mosquitos' dinner time.
Great place to experience the white mountains area!
Loved the secluded setting and the view off the front porch was amazing! You can see cherry pond and sunsets over the mountains. Probably the best view we found in the area. The cabin was comfortable. The solar electric system worked well enough that I forgot the cabin was "of the grid". Nice well stocked kitchen with a variety of miscellaneous pantry items as well as dishes. Fridge and freezer are on the small side tho. The complimentary bottle of local maple syrup was a nice touch. Thanks Ben! The place stayed reasonably cool even without ac in July. Probably the biggest detractor from the overall experience was the tall grass and weeds around. You couldn't walk down the sidewalk or out to the grill or pavilion without picking up 3 or 4 ticks out of the grass. A little time with a mower or trimmer would have greatly helped that. Great stay overall though and would def recommend if you're in the area
What a great cabin and location!
Ben’s cabin is a great place to unwind and enjoy the tranquility of nature. The views were spectacular, especially the sunsets. The cabin was cozy, well stocked and tasteful decorated. We hope to return soon.
