The Pink Cottage-Family friendly with beach, dock, float, kayak and canoe

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedroom,1 bath cottage on beautiful Damariscotta, Lake

The Pink Cottage, on beautiful Damariscotta Lake, is the place to be. A private beach, dock and swim float makes a perfect spot to spend the day. Our sunroom looks out across the lawn and onto the lake where you can catch a glimpse of one of our resident eagles as well as loons and osprey.

It's a great place to relax and enjoy the lake, wildlife and lovely sunrises. The cottage accommodates 6 people in 2 bedrooms and a loft which has limited headroom (5 feet). One first floor bed room has a queen bed and the other has two twins. The loft has two twin size beds. The cottage has basic cable tv and wireless internet. An enclosed sun-room overlooking the lake, a fully equipped kitchen, a living/dining room and a newly renovated bathroom with shower finish out the first floor. There's a large deck, expansive lawn and a huge fire pit. We supply a canoe and one sit upon kayak. A public boat landing is just up the road so you can launch your boat from there and tie it up to our dock.

Our favorite thing to do is have our coffee out on the deck in the morning and watch the lake come to life. During the day when you're not swimming you can take a break in the hammock or in the hammock chair which is hanging lakeside.

About 8 miles away is the town of Damariscotta. There you can find grocery stores, a large health food store, a bookstore, many wonderful restaurants, lots of galleries, gift shops and, of course, Reny's and Round Top Ice Cream. There is a top notch library and YMCA if you need to get some extra exercise.

During the fall you can sit lakeside on a sunny day or sit in the sun-room and watch the eagles as they look for fish in the afternoon. Take a side trip to the mountains or down to the ocean. The changes of color on the trees is spectacular as is the calmness of the lake in the morning. The first Sunday in Oct. there is the Oyster Festival in 'Scotty' and the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta is usually held on Columbus day weekend, one of the most beautiful times in Maine. Giant painted and carved pumpkins, a parade, music and so much more. All of these activities are only 8 miles from the Pink Cottage. We will consider renting for this three day weekend. The morning and the evening are the best times in the fall for a canoe ride. The lake is like glass and the reflection of the trees on the lake is spectacular. We have a Renai in the living room as well as in the basement if you need some heat to keep you warm during those chilly fall days. We don't allow use of the fireplace in the cottage.

So come join us at the Pink Cottage for a quiet time away.

About Ellen or Wilder Hunt

The Pink Cottage is owned by Ellen and Wilder Hunt, local residents who enjoy sharing the cottage with their children, grandchildren and visitors to the area.

Why Ellen or Wilder Hunt chose Boothbay Harbor Area

Hi, my name is Danica and my parents own the Pink Cottage. They inherited it from my grandparents, so I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Now I live in Richmond, VA, but I bring my family here for two weeks every summer. My children Camden (16) and Raegan (14) love to swim, fish and kayak on the lake. They play badminton and whiffle ball on the lawn and, at night, roast marshmallows over the bonfire in the fire pit. Their time at the Pink Cottage is consistently the highlight of their year. I am so pleased to be able to share this special place with my children. If you decide to visit, I know it will find a lasting place in your heart.

This is a beautiful place to spend a week. While the kids play on the beach or jump off the float you can be joining them, stretching out in the hammock or just relaxing on the large lawn with a drink in hand. We are sorry to say but we do not allow fireworks on our property. They are too disruptive to the eagle population that lives on the island accross from us. We do provide trash pickup once a week.

Quiet and relaxing place to unwind.

Our vacation at the Pink Cottage was a very enjoyable experience. Ellen was there to greet us and showed us around . Everything we needed was in the cottage. We enjoyed cooking on the new weber grill that was provided. The kayaking was great as well as the fishing. The local stores were a short drive away. The fire pit was enjoyable to relax by in the evening , wood was provided . Sitting on the porch in the morning watching the sun rise over the lake was a wonderful way to start each day. This was everything we were expecting and more.

Damariscotta Cottage rental exceeds our expectations

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the Cottage after a 5 hour ride from Massachusetts to be greeted by a bald eagle flying over the dock. There was a loon family floating by the raft off the beach. The lake was beautiful and there were more eagles flying over the two islands opposite the beach.

Now about the cottage, it was immaculate and it seemed that the dishes, silverware and the gas grill were either new or super clean. The beds were really comfortable with a lot of cross ventilation. The kitchen had everything we needed.

The sunroom overlooks the lake and the ample deck outside had a picnic table and other casual chairs. There is a fire pit down by the lake that we had fun with, as well as another picnic table.

We went to Louis Doe’s in Newcastle to get fishing tackle and fished off of the dock. Canoeing was great and we went to one of the nearby islands and picked a quart of wild blueberries!!!

For shopping for food there is a Hannefords and a large organic food market15 minutes away in Damariscotta as well as Round Top ice cream and downtown Damariscotta provided many shops and restaurants.

From New Harbor near Damariscotta we took a boat to Monhegan Island, highly recommended!

An not to forget the great rope hammock and the rope hammock chair that swings slightly over the lake! One of us spent hours reading there!

Does it get any better than this? After coming to Maine and specifically Lake Damariscotta for 40 years this place beats all I have seen!!

Thanks to Ellen and Wilder for providing a great vacation spot!!

Great Canoeing from the Pink House

  • 5 of 5

We selected this house for a stay on Lake Damariscotta because it came with the use of a canoe (actually 2 canoes and 2 kayaks, but we stuck with one canoe) and were not disappointed. For our September stay the lake was almost a private waterway for us. There's much to explore, and in one week we did not even reach all the possible places to paddle that were within our range. Besides seeing an eagle and a few osprey, along with many more common birds, we also had our first-ever sightings in the wild of a beaver and of a weasel. Very exciting.

The cabin itself is very cosy, and the kitchen very well equipped. The screened in porch is wonderful, and we spent many hours there. When we had a few cold nights, the heating system was quiet and efficient.

The best part of the deal is Ellen. She is very friendly and most, most helpful. We were traveling by bicycle and shopping for groceries was going to be a challenge, as it's 7 hilly miles from the supermarket to the cabin. No problem, said Ellen. She met us at the store and carried our week's supply of food and our bike luggage by car while we rode our now lightweight tandem bike to the cabin.

This place is is a real find. You'll have a great week (or more) here.

beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the pink cottage for a very warm week in August. Despite the unusually warm weather we were quite comfortable with the beautiful breeze off the water. In addition, the cottage is very well furnished with many fans and all the other comforts needed. The kitchen lacks nothing and the pots and pans are in good condition for cooking. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The owners were a pleasure to work with and even supplied swimming floats, kayaks, lawn chairs, hammock, and picnic tables. The inside of the cottage looks freshly painted and the bathroom, though small, is nicely furnished with a new - looking shower. There is an eclectic collection of furniture in the property but it was all comfortable and sufficient, including comfortable beds. We were very satisfied and highly recommend this rental.

Maine at its Best

  • 5 of 5

The Pink Cottage brought back such good memories for our family. We would spend a week on a lake in Maine every year while the children were growing up. It felt like we had come home. Ellen and Wilder couldn't have been more helpful. The cottage and grounds were pristine. Lots of room for us to set up lawn games and a canoe and kayak to paddle the wonderful quiet lake and check on the eagle nest. Our son- in-law enjoyed fishing, and taught his nephew to fish off the dock. Ellen has the kitchen well stocked and the beds and pillows were quite comfortable. Great proximity to town and coast (for bringing back lobster), but feels remote. We hope to return. If you go, stop at the fish ladder for the Alewife the town is building at the bottom of the lake. Quite an engineering feat.

We highly recommend the Pink Cottage if you are looking for a low-key, easy going, and relaxing Maine vacation.

Round Top ice cream and Reny's both are can't miss spots.

In the town of Boothbay you'll find the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden which has a wonderful reputation.

On rainy days you can take the kids to Waldoboro's All Sports Bowling, check out one of the wonderful restaurants or just curl up on the sun porch with a good book.

Th Hidden Valley Nature Center is not far from the cottage, It has lots of hiking trails to try out. About 4 miles from the cottage is the Oxbow Brewery where they have tastings and other activities going on during the summer.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a great place to experience the coast. You can climb on the rocks or just enjoy the waves crashing on shore.

Most of the time you'll just want to hang out at the cottage enjoying the activities on the lake.
