3 bedroom,1 bath cottage on beautiful Damariscotta, Lake
A private beach, dock and swim float makes a perfect spot to spend the day at the Pink Cottage. Our sunroom looks out across the lawn and onto the lake where you can catch a glimpse of one of our resident eagles as well as loons and osprey.
It's a great place to relax and enjoy the lake, wildlife and lovely sunrises. The cottage accommodates 6 people in 2 bedrooms and a loft which has limited headroom (5 feet). One first floor bed room has a queen bed and the other has two twins. The loft has two twin size beds. The cottage has basic cable tv and wireless internet. You can bring your own streaming device, the tv has an HDMI port An enclosed sun-room overlooking the lake, a fully equipped kitchen, a living/dining room and a newly renovated bathroom with shower finish out the first floor. There's a large deck, expansive lawn and a huge stone fire pit. We supply a canoe and three kayaks, two sit in and one sit upon kayak. A public boat landing is just up the road so you can launch your boat from there and tie it up to our dock.
Our favorite thing to do is have our coffee out on the deck in the morning and watch the lake come to life. During the day when you're not swimming you can take a break in the hammock or in the hammock chair which is hanging lakeside.
About 8 miles away is the town of Damariscotta. There you can find grocery stores, a large health food store, a bookstore, many wonderful restaurants, lots of galleries, gift shops and, of course, Reny's and Round Top Ice Cream. There is a top notch library and YMCA if you need to get some extra exercise.

About Ellen or Wilder Hunt
The Pink Cottage is owned by Ellen and Wilder Hunt, local residents who enjoy sharing the cottage with their children, grandchildren and visitors to the area.
Why Ellen or Wilder Hunt chose Newcastle
Hi, my name is Danica and my parents own the Pink Cottage. They inherited it from my grandparents, so I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Now I live in Maidens, VA, but I bring my family here for two weeks every summer. My children Camden (17) and Raegan (15) love to swim, fish and kayak on the lake. They play badminton and whiffle ball on the lawn and, at night, roast marshmallows over the bonfire in the fire pit. Their time at the Pink Cottage is consistently the highlight of their year. I am so pleased to be able to share this special place with my children. If you decide to visit, I know it will find a lasting place in your heart.

Late October Stay in a gem of a vacation home in Paradise
Lovely cottage in a place that is hard to imagine really exists. We visited for a week in late October, picked the sunrise facing bedroom and enjoyed the well stocked kitchen, the comfortably furnished living room, sunny porch overlooking Lake Damariscotta in its Fall glory, the sunrise deck and the hammocks in the breeze. All wonderful! The manicured grounds had just enough wildness and just enough grooming to make being outside with a good book a great pleasure. The selection of canoes, kayaks, and cookout equipment made the lake a magical place that we could almost not believe really exists. The inside of the cottage is stocked just as you would want, new laundry equipment, nicely assorted dishes, pots, pans, implements, really, everything you'd put there if you owned the cottage yourself. We come to Maine every year, always staying in a new place, sometimes in a deeply remote location sometimes not so remote. This year we wondered what late October would be like and found that we made a fantastic choice. We would return again. The owners keep this place in a spotless and comfortable condition. Wilder might even share a fishing secret or two with you ( thanks Wilder, the fishing was wonderful and your advice panned out!) I am trying to think of a negative to mention that might add credibility to an otherwise gushing review. I can't. The nearby town has all of the the quaint restaurants, pubs, seafood markets, and even a fascinating historical museum. There are some nearby hiking trails, animal sanctuaries, and State Parks. We hiked through a natural wonderland for one afternoon, discovering a place by a river in fall color that can't be described in anything but good poetry. Next time, we'll need to remember to bring along a poet. So when you want to be busy cooking for yourself or or being fed a fine meal in a nice restaurant, or active or reposed, it's all there for you. But when you get back to the cottage you can drop out to a relaxing experience that is not easy to find any more. Perhaps I might complain that a week has only seven days. We could have used a month of days. But this cottage is in great demand. Now we know why. Thanks Ellen. We hope to stay again!
Wow! Thanks so much. We’re so glad you enjoyed the Pink Cottage. We try to think about what we’d like if we were staying in a cottage. Our family also is very good at giving suggestions from when they’re here. Again, thanks
Exceptional place to stay.
The cabin was well taken care of and loved. Everything was very clean. Updates appliances worked very well. Plenty of provisions and supplies were available. Hosts were very friendly and caring. A wonderful place to stay, we will be staying there again in the future.
The Pink Cottage is completely charming
Our stay was relaxing and comfortable...a cozy little place full of views, light, and tastefully mismatched furniture, just like your magazine-idea of what a cottage in Maine should be! The lake was chilly in October, of course, but our family enjoyed the canoe. The readers appreciated the book collection. We would gladly stay there again.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a nice review. We appreciate it
This property had everything we needed for a great vacation! Ellen and Wilder were wonderful hosts!
Thanks so much, great meeting all of you. Would love to hear final college decision.
Great cottage, well stocked, exceptionally clean, beautiful view! What more could anyone want?
Our first trip to Maine was in 1973 and we stayed at the Pink Cottage! It was such a delight to return and see all the changes made over time. The surrounding area is beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed relaxing and sitting on the glassed-in porch enjoying the view of the lake, as well as exploring the immediate area. Ellen and Wilder Hunt are perfect hosts and very available to see to any need or question that you may have.
Thank you so much. It was such a pleasure to meet you and to hear all of the stories about the cottage and the farm in the 70s. We can’t wait to see you again next year
The Pink Cottage was a perfect little Maine cottage on the lake. We enjoyed our stay very much and the lake was very nice. The cottage is very well stocked. Ellen (owner) was very helpful and showed us everything when we got there. The lake water was cold in late May early June when we were there but the kids went swimming anyway and enjoyed it. The cottage was in a great location to everything. You can drop down the the coast or drive up route 1 to get to other points of interest. Note: Go the speed limit in Maine no matter how painfully slow it is because we saw people pulled over several times for speeding. This was the family's first time to Maine and we loved it! You will have a great time here and this cottage is a great place to stay if you want slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet and still be able to travel to all the points of interest around. Thanks Ellen for everything!
The Pink Cottage is located on Damariscotta Lake, about 8 miles from the town of Damariscotta. The month of October is a super time to stay with us. First, we have the Pumpkinfest which starts on Oct 7 and displays the pumpkins throughout the month and then you have a chance to tour the area's colorful foliage display. The little town has about anything that you would need from a first class library to a health food store, a YMCA, two groceries, multiple gift shops, ice cream stands and restaurants galore. Round Top ice cream and Reny's both are can't miss spots. In the town of Boothbay you'll find the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden which has a wonderful reputation. On rainy days you can take the kids to Waldoboro's All Sports Bowling, check out one of the wonderful restaurants or just curl up on the sun porch with a good book. Th Hidden Valley Nature Center is not far from the cottage, It has lots of hiking trails to try out. About 4 miles from the cottage is the Oxbow Brewery where they have tastings and other activities going on during the summer. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a great place to experience the coast. You can climb on the rocks or just enjoy the waves crashing on shore. Most of the time you'll just want to hang out at the cottage enjoying the activities on the lake.
