About Mary Pizzimenti

My husband and I enjoy spending time in Savannah as we love the southern hospitality, friendliness of the residents and beauty of the city.

Mary Pizzimenti purchased this condo in 2006

Why Mary Pizzimenti chose Savannah

We love Savannah and all of its history and charm. The genuine friendliness of the residents and visitors is second to none. It has great restaurants, entertainment, shopping, nearby beaches and countless other activities. With some 200 city-wide festivals and events each year there is always something to do and someplace to go.

What makes this condo unique

Place yourself in Savannah's rich history. This property was completely renovated to help preserver the historic charm and significance that keeps Savannah a unique and beautiful city. The exterior maintains the period correct architecture while the interior has all the modern conveniences and comforts.

The original structure has been described as Vernacular Neoclassical Revival, local interpretation of a combination of Georgian Revival and Edwardian architecture. With its pediment porches and two-story porticos supported by round columns, the building has been formally identified as being of 'significant value as a Classical Revival apartment house'.

Originally set aside as 'Garden Lots' in General Oglethorpe's original town plan of Savannah, the land would become known as the Beach Institute Neighborhood. Early records find that in 1782 the land, named Fairlawn Plantation, was a working rice plantation. In 1853 with the advent of the Savannah & Albany Railroad, construction of Savannah's East Side began in earnest. Workers for the railroad were in need of housing and developers capitalized on that need by developing land tracts slated for building lots.

Of interest, is that a single African American woman, Mary Ellen Richardson, wholly developed the property. She owned the property from 1868 until her death in 1929. Somewhere between 1898 and 1916 the original structure was replaced with the building that stands to this day.

Mary Richardson's also built the Carpenter Italianate row house as well as a single-family dwelling in the same area.

Perfect for young kids -- roomy, close to Forsyth Park & Kroger & everything

  • 5 of 5

Three generations enjoyed our stay -- grandma, parents, kids aged 12, 7 & 5. Even after a long day of walking all over the historic district or cavorting in the waves at Tybee Island, the kids begged to run the few blocks to Forsyth Park, where they played on the great playground. Later, we enjoyed taking turns on the small balcony, watching traffic and eating a snack or drinking an adult beverage. Previous guests kindly left laundry & kitchen soaps, but the lovely Kroger and handy Dollar Tree (between us and the park) had everything else we could need. The free DOT bus was a block before the park (and just down from the charming Mate Factor cafe). Tybee Island (with lighthouse, beach & Fort Pulaski) was a quick, easy drive. We always had plenty of free parking right in front of the house. Owner was quick to respond to questions.

Loved the unit, clean and spacious

Would definitely stay there again. One minor suggestion would be wine glasses. Drank our wine out of coffee mugs

Good location, poorly managed

  • 3 of 5

Location was great, about a 30 minute walk to city market, but if you're coming with friends the people below will complain. We made it known we came for a bachelorette party. We arrived home around 12:45 and went to bed immediately, but got scolded because we "took off our shoes too loudly". We weren't happy the way the situation was handled and will not be using this property manager again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for confirming the property is in a great location. Sorry your stay was not what you wanted it to be. Obviously there was some type of issue or the guests in the other unit would not have contacted me (I am the owner and manager). The complaint was addressed by a phone call explaining what the other guests were experiencing. Taking action on a guest complaint is part of property management. No one was “scolded”. Bachelorettes are some of the best guests and are always welcome..

Fabulous Savannah vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying in this rental. We were a party of 5 adults and 2 kids (ages 2 and 5) and everyone enjoyed the spacious amenities. The location is very convenient to all the sights in Savannah, and it was located in a quiet, residential neighborhood. The directions were very clear for check-in and check-out procedures, and Mary was quick and responsive to all our email inquiries. We enjoyed our mini-vacation in Savannah and would definitely stay here again!
