Watch toucans, motmots and oropendola fly about while enjoying your breakfast on the tiled veranda (lanai) with a view of the Central Valley below and mountains in the distance.
Keep your eyes open for the iguanas and garobo lizards that roam the property. Photograph butterflies and hummingbirds fighting for a turn on the flowers planted especially for them. You may even spot three toed sloths and monkeys in a nearby patch of forest.
If the urge comes upon you, sign up for a class in ceramic slab building - inquire for details and rates.
National Geographic: Atenas 'has the best climate in the world...'
The property is a little higher in altitude than the town and therefore, always a bit cooler. The views are spectacular and it's sufficiently private without being totally isolated. Visitors can use the private exit to access the old coffee road which runs next to the property. A walk to town on this road is 20 minutes or, if you're a hiker, take a nice hike (gentle most of the way) in the opposite direction.
Everywhere you look is green. Verbena and lantana plants bubble with butterflies and hummingbirds. Banana trees provide shade and a tropical ambiance. The rancho is a unique feature for a vacation rental and is available to visitors for BBQs, snoozes in the hammock and as a quiet place to sit and read or cruise the internet over the WiFi connection.
