Our fourth VRBO rental in Hawaii, this was by far the best. Darcelle was a great hostess... anything you needed, she responded immediately, but was otherwise unobtrusive. This loop gives you a great respite from being right on the highway. Five doors up, Ken offers unimaginably fresh fish, and cooks it for you on the weekends. Prices are absurdly low. $10 for a dinner that is enough to easily feed two. Mid-week, $13 got me well over a pound (I didn't have a scale) of the freshest possible ahi.

The bedrooms are comfortable and there are individual air conditioning units for each room, which turned out be to necessary, even in early November. There is a full entertainment system that we didn't use (with a private rock beach on the ocean, including a rock pool for snorkeling, we didn't need anything else). The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, with most any staple you might want already in place. Within a mile there is a small shopping center with Tamura's, a terrific independent local market and a chain drug store. A couple of miles away there is another shopping center with a chain supermarket (Foodland) and a number of restaurants. Several restaurants are walking distance from the cottage. If you want a sand beach, Kokololio Beach Park is about a mile away.

The classic surf of the North Shore is about 10 miles up the highway, but there are plenty of people surfing on the more modest waves nearby. There are hiking trails within walking distance and better ones a few miles drive away. Honolulu is a short hour by car.

It is hard to imagine a nicer place for the price. We expect to return.

First off, Darcelle was great to work with in setting up this rental. She communicated with us clearly and met us at the house.

The house is in a wonderful location. Your backyard butts up to the ocean. Spent many a day and evening sitting in a chair next to the sea wall soaking up the sun, sounds, and spray. There is a grocery store, drug store, places to eat, and a post office all within walking distance.

The house itself is great. The inside has tile or hardwood throughout and the appliances are all new and in good working order. The air conditioning works well during times when the doors and windows can't be open. The furniture makes you feel like you are in the islands. There is a TV but let's face it, do you really need it.

You are an hour from Honolulu, but only 25 minutes to the furtherest places that we wanted to see. Excellent access to all north shore beaches.

I would highly recommend this rental to anyone. I will be back.

Heaven on earth!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a most wonderful stay at Nemo's Nest and we were so happy that we chose to stay in the beautiful countryside. The house was just perfect, so clean and such a restful place. We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises each morning, the quiet rain during some of the nights, and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. The description is perfect....the ocean right in our backyard!!! The neighborhood is quiet and people were so friendly. Darcelle is such a wonderful host and gave us great information on things to see and do. And, the beautiful private beaches nearby were just beautiful and heavenly. We are still talking about the wonderful time we had and we plan to go back again. Thank you, Darcelle, for sharing your beautiful place with us.

Ocean lover's dream spot

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a lovely stay at Nemo's Nest. Darcell could not be a sweeter host and the house is clean and bright and larger than I thought it would be. There are two large bedrooms two baths one with a large jet tub and the other with a very handy washer- dryer and an extra family room with a TV and a couch which is actually part single bed-perfect for naps. The front of the house which is on the water is a large open kitchen and living room combination with a bright white cathedral ceiling complete with fans. But the most amazing thing about this house is the setting. It is off the busy road in a quiet neighbor hood full of friendly neighbors and it sits right on the sea wall. We couldn't get enought of watching the waves break on the reefs, catching the sunrise every morning, and seeing the amazing stars at night. Just seconds down the road is one of the most private and beautiful sandy beaches.

Wonderful Oasis

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Nemo's Nest for during our trip to Hawaii. There were 4 adults and one 2 year old. the house had everything that we could need and more. The owner was so accommodating. She provided a 'pack'n'play' for the baby and there was also an extra bed in the second bedroom for him to use! We were happily surprised to find that there was an abundance of water toys and snorkel gear to use. My favorite thing about the house was having the ocean right in the back yard. It was amazing sitting there in the morning while drinking my coffee. There is a beach right near by but our favorite beach was a little further down the road (Hukilau Beach). I can not wait to go back!

Best Location and Great Owner!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Nemo's Nest with my sister for our first visit to Hawaii and couldn't have found a better place to stay. Darcelle was the best to work with and made sure our stay was perfect. We arrived to the place around 11:00 PM due to delays arriving in Honolulu, but Darcelle insisted she greet us to make sure everything was satisfactory. The house was wonderful and right on the water. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend anyone wanting to enjoy a relaxing visit right on the water, consider Nemo's Nest.
