The Book of Kells may be one of the Irish treasures of Western Civilization but Imelda Sheehy-Smith and Flemingstown House should rank right up there. Radiating Celtic graciousness, Imelda opened up “Flemingstown” her lovely country house to us. After a an orientation meeting, she handed the keys over to us saying that the house was ours for the duration of our visit. She made herself available for house questions and travel concerns, but said that she would enter only at our invitation on future visits.
Flemingstown itself is a reflection of the openess and warmth of its owner. The grounds are buccolic and lovingly maintained and each ensuite bedroom was even better than the on-line views. There were 10 travelers in our band of friends and the well-appointed beautifully organized kitchen made meal preparation both easy and a pleasure.
Our hostess put no limits upon us in the house, and there were multiple sitting rooms and suny spaces for solitude or conviviality. My husband I are seasoned travelers who frequent local B and B’s and country Inns on our trips, and Imela and Flemingstown are in the Pantheon of the “Great Ones”
We rented the Flemingstown House for a week with friends and had a great time. It was such a peaceful, convenient, and relaxing base station while we explored Ireland. The owner/manager was extremely friendly and helpful but not intrusive. A herd of grazing cows nearby enhanced the experience and ambience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place and would return.
We travelled as a large group so this beautiful house with its lovely bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms was perfect for us. The common spaces - a gourmet kitchen with every appliance and kitchen gadget one could need, informal and more formal dining areas and living rooms made for a memorable visit for all of us. It really felt like home! Grounds are beautiful and location works well as a home base for seeing western Ireland. Imelda, the owner, could not have been more helpful. Would go back in a heartbeat and recommend enthusiastically.
My husband and I with our four adult children had a delightful visit to Flemingstown House recently. Imelda was warm and welcoming, inviting us to make the house our own. She very generously stocked frig and pantry so we had breakfast and lunch for the next day. The house and grounds are beautiful, and located perfectly for a stop at Rock of Cashel enroute from Dublin, and day trips to Adare for falconry at Adare Manor (which proved to be a highlight of our trip!), Limerick where we spent a rainy afternoon at Dolan’s Pub, Kenmare for coasteering through Eclipse Ireland, a drive around the Ring of Kerry, Killarney and the national park, lovely walks, runs and mountain biking in the Ballyhoura Mountains, and a ramble around the quaint village of Kilmallock. Thank you, Imelda, for a comfortable and memorable stay! D and J Quinn, Chicago IL June 2016
While visiting my nephew at University, we stayed here as a party of ten, ranging in age from 7- 70. Imelda was a delightful hostess, who welcomed us like family. The home and grounds are just beautiful with many amenities. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside and coming home to Flemingstown House each night. The children loved exploring the grounds and we even had a movie night from the well stocked DVD library. We truly wanted for nothing. Flemingstown House and its owner, Imelda are true gems!
I booked the Flemingstown House early in 2015 for a group of 10 of us to stay for 6 nights. I knew our host Imelda would take care of us from the very start as she was quick to engage on the phone and make sure we had every detail ironed out. While I had a decent idea of what to expect when we arrived, my housemates who perhaps had not done as much research were blown away on arrival. The house is luxury and comfort combined. We had amazing living space, a great kitchen for cooking meals, and a large dining table. The location was ideal for exploring down to Cork, our to Kerry, and up to Limerick. I can't recommend this location highly enough.
One final note: the place is amazing on its own, but Imelda's touch and care are what really takes this place over the top.
