About Paul Hathaway

We are two nurses working hard and enjoying all that Northern California has to offer. We've lived in the Bay Area the last couple of decades sharing weekend explorations and meals with family and friends in the midst of the wonderful mix of cultures and physical beauty that is California.

Paul Hathaway purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Paul Hathaway chose Sonoma County

For years we've thrived by enjoying the great outdoors of Northern California - from the parks near our home in Oakland, to the trails of Yosemite, to beach hikes along the Pacific Ocean. In time we settled on looking for our own vacation property in the Guerneville area as it is in the middle of much that we hold dear in life on the West Coast of Paradise. Over the last few years our real estate agent was patient enough to show us dozens of homes but none caught our desires till we saw Springhill Cabin. Here we can have no ambition, sit and read, write, drink wine and cook some great meals. Or we can decide to walk down to the river for a swim, or we can up our ambitions to drive to the ocean and climb a hill to watch the whales. Armstrong Redwood State Park provides great hikes. We can be wine tasting or antiquing in minutes, enjoy an exquisite dinner in unpretentious restaurants....and then head home to Springhill Cabin. How could we not want to have you enjoy this, too.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a Craftsman cabin with redwood paneling, a comfy reading nook/window seat with views into the trees. There is a hot tub under a Redwood fairy ring. A four minute walk takes you to our private community beach. The fully equipped kitchen rocks with an O'Keefe & Merritt gas stove, great butcher block and bright windows. There is a large gas grill outside the kitchen door. The bathroom has a claw foot tub and towel warmer. Oh, did we mention the air? It could not be any fresher than here. Convenient accommodations for wine country events, biking and triathlons, music festivals.

Great getaway cabin!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful place to stay. The cabin is wonderfully decorated, very comfortable, and has many more features and attention to items that many other vacation rentals don't have. While there's other homes around you, you really can't tell because of the landscaping and dense forest around the house. The hot tub was great and the kitchen was wonderful to cook in! Thanks for the bottle of wine as well!

I'd just caution that the first time you drive in to the area it can be a little daunting. The directions provided are good but some of the signs didn't point us in the right direction at first. Also cell coverage cuts out and it seems mobile maps don't really know the way. However we found the place just fine and after getting in the first time it was no issue at all!

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at the property. We are so glad we were able to stay longer than last time. The place is great and has beautiful surroundings. The interior of the cabin is really cute with nice and thoughtful touches throughout. I would definitely stay here again. It was a great place to stay to enjoy the Russian River area.

An inspiring locale, unbelievable cabin

  • 5 of 5

The pictures couldn't possibly do this place justice.

Upon arriving at the cabin (which comes with a gorgeous drive through Sonoma County, CA), you immediately notice how magical your stay is going to be. The owners have done incredible things with the cabin, the decor and furnishings being rustic yet sophisticated. The kitchen is top-of-the-line yet full of charm. The main room is full of scholarly books, cozy furniture, natural lighting... Yet everything still feels up-to-date and modern.

The owners have done a phenomenal job keeping the place in tip-top shape. The perfect home base for a journey through NorCal wine country, great dining spots, and wonderful beaches.

Words cannot do this place justice, either. I just hope my implication that you cannot make a better choice for a stay rings through. :)

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend getaway was perfect! The cabin is equipped with everything you need and more...

Hiking in the Redwoods and soaking in the hot tub were just some of the highlights.

There are plenty of options locally for dinning out but my wife and I decided to enjoy home cooked meals on Friday and Saturday. We felt two days wasn't enough and didn't want to leave. We will be back soon!

Fantastic Stay over Christmas

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a lovely stay at this little cabin in the woods! Though surrounded by other little houses, the street was very quiet and we hardly saw anyone else. It was the perfect cozy getaway for our first Christmas with our little guy (who is just a few months old, and not mobile yet).

We enjoyed the lovely little wood burning stove, spent lots of time in the hot tub and enjoyed the surrounding area.

Though we never met our hosts in person, we still felt incredibly welcomed by them. They are generous and welcoming people, who are more then happy to help and answer questions if you need. We spoke on a the phone a few times regarding a few questions we had and they were always kind and helpful. The cabin is a lovely and cozy place for a getaway for two.

Thanks for a lovely stay!

A lovely getaway with everything you need and more

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend here. The home is lovely and very thoughtfully prepared. Everything you might need is where you'd expect it to be, from bathroom necessities to extra cookware to throw blankets folded up in every corner you may want to snuggle into. It is clear that a lot of care went into little details to make us feel right at home, and it worked very well.

We went for a walk around the community, which was very quiet and pleasant this time of year (late November), but we mostly stayed inside, using the great kitchen to its full potential and trying out all of the little sitting&reading areas. And, of course, we stepped outside for a dip in the hot tub.

I hope to come stay here again some time. It was a very relaxing break from work.

Owner's Response: Yes, we love this winter time of year, too. Whether it rains or the sun comes out it is such a sense of muffled peacefulness. I'm writing this note while it is raining outside, my umbrella is waiting by the door waiting for me to post this and head out under the trees for a walk in the woods. Thanks for your comments.
