We are two nurses working hard and enjoying all that Northern California has to offer. We've lived in the Bay Area the last couple of decades sharing weekend explorations and meals with family and friends in the midst of the wonderful mix of cultures and physical beauty that is California.
Paul Hathaway purchased this cabin in 2012
For years we've thrived by enjoying the great outdoors of Northern California - from the parks near our home in Oakland, to the trails of Yosemite, to beach hikes along the Pacific Ocean. In time we settled on looking for our own vacation property in the Guerneville area as it is in the middle of much that we hold dear in life on the West Coast of Paradise. Over the last few years our real estate agent was patient enough to show us dozens of homes but none caught our desires till we saw Springhill Cabin. Here we can have no ambition, sit and read, write, drink wine and cook some great meals. Or we can decide to walk down to the river for a swim, or we can up our ambitions to drive to the ocean and climb a hill to watch the whales. Armstrong Redwood State Park provides great hikes. We can be wine tasting or antiquing in minutes, enjoy an exquisite dinner in unpretentious restaurants....and then head home to Springhill Cabin. How could we not want to have you enjoy this, too.
This is a Craftsman cabin with redwood paneling, a comfy reading nook/window seat with views into the trees. There is a hot tub under a Redwood fairy ring. A four minute walk takes you to our private community beach. The fully equipped kitchen rocks with an O'Keefe & Merritt gas stove, great butcher block and bright windows. There is a large gas grill outside the kitchen door. The bathroom has a claw foot tub and towel warmer. Oh, did we mention the air? It could not be any fresher than here. Convenient accommodations for wine country events, biking and triathlons, music festivals.
I can't begin to tell you how immensely perfect this cabin was for my getaway with my sister . There are places in this world that are so secluded and so peaceful that you want to keep them a secret from everyone else so as to not ruin the mystique. But the irony is that you end up sharing a place like this and telling everyone you know so that they can too enjoy it's amazingness. Paul's hospitality is limitless and just beyond comparison as a host.
My husband and I spent a relaxing, rejuvenating and peaceful 3 nights at Paul's Summerhome Park cabin in November. Each and every detail of this beautiful home was perfect! Quiet, comfortable, cozy, beautiful, it was everything and more than we could have desired! We loved cooking in the incredibly well equipped kitchen, relaxing by the fire and soaking in the hot tub. Very private too! Beautiful redwoods surround the wooden deck for good privacy. We can not wait to go back soon! A perfect escape and just want we needed! Great location too, very close to amazing wineries, restaurants, river access and charming towns. Every detail was thought out, games, dvd's, regional information, soft towels, bath salts, tea, so many thoughtful details go such a long way and truly make this a "diamond in the ruff"! We have stayed at many rental properties and this one truly felt like you were in someones "home"!!!!
Perfection, thank you Paul.

My husband and I stayed at this immaculate gem back in March to celebrate our 12th anniversary. Paul and his wife have honestly thought of every last little tiny detail to make you feel right at home. Everything was amazing. We really enjoyed making fires and cooking (quiet and uninterrupted) meals together in the fully stocked kitchen. We also loved watching many of the movies they supply along with playing some of the games. It was the most relaxing trip we've taken together since having four small children. We also enjoyed the hot tub as well and the short drive to the surrounding wineries and restaurants. I would highly recommend this cabin in the woods to anyone looking for a relaxing or romantic time away.
...as well as a great location to explore surrounding Sonoma County sights! Paul and Lyn have really paid full attention to detail in this beautiful place, and it is true that the pictures don't do it justice! It is the most well-equipped, comfortable, clean and private place we have ever rented. We absolutely enjoyed our stay - the day trips to check out the surrounding small towns (both inland and along the coast), the winery visits and the canoe trip down the Russian River were all fantastic. We even took a day to just hang out. Nights were especially relaxing with cooking on-site, and enjoying the peace and quiet of the Redwoods with cocktail in hand while soaking in the hot tub and star-gazing with some soft music in the background. We were particularly struck by the fresh air mixed with the scent of the Redwoods. If you figure out a way to bottle it, please give me a call! While we visited during a "quiet" time of the year (post-Labor Day), the weather was phenomenal and we could tell that the summer months must also be filled with fun in the Summer Home Park community.
Paul and Lyn, thank you very much for sharing this gem and we hope to visit again!
I've stayed in many rentals over the years, and even others in the Summerhome Park resort area of the Russian River; this home was the best rental we've ever stayed in. Besides the natural beauty of the redwood forest and terrific location (SHP has a great private beach), what made this so special was the incredible quality of furnishings and the generosity of the hosts to have everything available -- including staple foods, sunscreen & river towels, plenty of kitchen equipment, and decent knives (very unusual in a rental!). The sofas, chairs and bed were all super comfortable and there were blankets and cozies everywhere to snuggle while reading or watching a movie. Good sound system, fabulous deck, and a hot tub amid a fairy ring of redwood trees -- truly a magical space. Great directions about how to work everything, too. Thanks, Paul, for a great vacation!
A wonderful place to stay. The cabin is wonderfully decorated, very comfortable, and has many more features and attention to items that many other vacation rentals don't have. While there's other homes around you, you really can't tell because of the landscaping and dense forest around the house. The hot tub was great and the kitchen was wonderful to cook in! Thanks for the bottle of wine as well!
I'd just caution that the first time you drive in to the area it can be a little daunting. The directions provided are good but some of the signs didn't point us in the right direction at first. Also cell coverage cuts out and it seems mobile maps don't really know the way. However we found the place just fine and after getting in the first time it was no issue at all!
Springhill Cabin is located in Summerhome Park(SHP). SHP is a community of summer homes developed in 1909 for families from San Francisco looking for a summer escape. Generations have enjoyed this idyllic location enjoying peaceful redwood hikes, swimming and canoeing the river, tasting the wine country and exploring the nearby Pacific Coast. It's no longer merely a summer retreat. It's a year round escape.
The County of Sonoma charges a "Transient Occupancy Tax" (TOT) of 9% .
