Lower level has the 3rd bedroom with king bed. Lower level also has full size futon in family area and curtained area has bunkbed. Useable fireplace in living room(be sure to push the flue damper up and into position first), game area in lower family area, front porch is wheelchair accessible. Across the back field to the N.E. is Lighthouse Park playground and Historic Rocket Playground is across from the tennis courts. Some of the best 'in season' pier fishing in Michigan is just across the back yard. ( I caught a nice Brown Trout in May. Beach fishing for Steelhead is popular Oct.-Dec) Beach is a 3-5 minute walk away using the path on the south side of the tennis court. There is a dog park there also. Walk around the fence to the west, through the dune and you can have your dog on the beach and run unleashed to the south if not many people. Be sure to bring plastic bags available at the dog park dispenser to clean up messes (keep it 'Pure Michigan') . Another dog friendly area is between the 2 piers, just walk onto the pier and turn right at the water. May and June are breeding times for the endangered, Piping Plover shore bird so please keep off the grassy dunes as much as possible. Thanks.
We prefer Sunday to Sunday bookings in July and August for 2017.
I grew up in a different part of town and spent many fun days on the beach, swimming with friends and fishing for perch from the pier. I moved away but returned often to visit family. When this house came on the market, it was a dream come true and we will share it with you. Hope you will enjoy and care for it as much as we do. Please be respectful with your language and music as sound travels easily outside. Thank you. This is a non-smoking property.
Nikki, Mary Rose, Rose Marie or Brittany purchased this house in 2012
This home is set up as a home away from home to enjoy the beach, picnic area, tennis courts, basketball court, pier fishing or just lounging on the spacious back deck. It is so convenient to the golf course with its bar and restaurant, you don't need a car to enjoy yourself. Great area for walking/jogging/cycling in relative safety without too much traffic. House is on a cul-de-sac.
Lovely breezes on warm days from this slightly elevated area that gives a good view of what is happening nearby. The covered front porch gives an area out of the wind and rain if needed. There is a laundry area in the lower level with an extra refrigerator and microwave.
Card table and 4 chairs in the garage. Games in cabinet next to dining table, toys downstairs in toy box, kites, sandtoys, too. There is a bike in the garage to use, just not in the sand. Porta-crib available to use and wooden high-chair.
WE HAD A FAMILY VACATION (TOTAL OF 14 PEOPLE AND 2 DOGS) AT THIS GREAT HOUSE IN MANISTEE. EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT FROM WORKING WITH WEST SHORE RENTAL MANAGEMENT TO THE OWNERS. I HAD A HUNDRED QUESTIONS AND THEY WERE VERY ACCOMODATING AND ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS VERY PROMPTLY. THE HOUSE ITSELF WAS BEAUTIFUL AND MADE IT EASY TO HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK. THE OWNERS ALLOWED US TO USE THEIR HOUSE AS IF IT WERE OURS. tHE OWNERS ALLOWED US TO USE WHATEVER WE LIKED. THE PORCH IS GREAT WITH A ONE OF A KIND VIEW. WE HAVE RENTED BEFORE BUT NEVER HAVE WE FELT SO WELCOME BOTH BY THE RENTAL AGENCY AND THE OWNERS. I'LL GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL BE A VACATION THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET.
The best place ever. Plenty of room for the family and friends. The beach can be seen from the upper back porch, and is just a few minute walk. Children can play outside with lots of room to roam. We had dear come right up to us in the back field every night and sunset. If I could recommend anything it would be to install a air conditioner in the front room .the cost to rent this home is well worth the cost.
We had a fantastic grown-up cousins vacation + two kids and a dog. The house layout is spacious and despite having 13 people, we never felt crowded. The house is clean and well stocked. The kitchen has all of the necessary cooking items and a great grill; we definitely needed the extra fridge in the basement. We loved the porch and outside space. The house really is just a short walk to the beach and there are at least four play grounds within a five minute walk. We also took the river walk to downtown Manistee, which we all loved.
We had a great week at this homey, comfortable home. There were 13 of us, 6 adults and 7 kids ages 2 to 13, and we fit comfortably, plenty of living space. And what a wonderful location within sight of beach, tennis courts, 3 playgrounds, and basketball courts nearby too. The house was stocked with lots of toys and games for the kids, and kitchen dishes and small
appliances aplenty. The management was helpful and friendly. We had a great time here!
Manistee is known for its fine Victorian architecture from the boom of logging the white pine forests in the county. Its fine, clean beaches are a draw from all over the country. The beautifully renovated Ramsdell Theatre at 1st and Maple Streets, offers live theater productions, creative arts exhibitions, live music and other art forms not to be missed. Across the street from the Ramsdell is the stately library worth visiting. Museums on River and 1st Streets tell of Manistee's logging history and development and are worth the time to visit. 2 blocks from the house, you can enjoy a stroll on the River Walk along the Manistee River passing marinas, restaurants and downtown shopping with an ice cream parlor and restaurant at the end.
The recently renovated downtown Vogue Theater has given a new look to the retail district and has all the latest films.
In July and August, Tuesday nights offer free jazz/blues concerts right at 1st St. Beach (you can hear it from the back deck) and Thursday nights offer more free music with 'Roots on the River' on Memorial Drive across Maple St. Bridge, downtown.
The Manistee-Huron National Forest is almost a million acres of great recreation of all kinds: fishing the Big and Little Manistee Rivers, hunting, hiking, canoeing, or just riding around the various backroads. Maps are in our house.
Salmon fishing is a big attraction for any outdoor sportsperson and a highlight of your stay could be taking a fishing guide into Lake Michigan or on a river to try your hand at landing a big one. Check them out on line or contact Bullhead Charters, Captain Stacy Peterson at 231 362 2591 or 231 794 4756. We had great luck with him !
