We live in Woodstock, VT and spend as much time as we can in Wellfleet. Amy grew up on the Cape and Chris visited the Cape for most of his life as a Surf Fisherman. Chris is a Veterinarian in Woodstock and Amy works for Ibex Outdoor Clothing nearby.
While on the Cape we love to fish, kayak, bike, windsurf, walk our dog, or simply beach it. Please feel free to ask if you have any interest in these activities. We can offer some great trips/tours for you.
Amy Legate purchased this house in 2011
This house is our escape. It is a life long dream to live in Wellfleet. That is why we call it The New Era.
We bought this house as it was so different from all the others we looked at. It's new, quiet and relaxing. The backyard is a Wildlife Sanctuary that will always be wild. The location is close to everything we could need or want.
Drinking coffee and viewing the emerald green of the marsh is our favorite morning pastime. The open floor plan and large sun-lit windows make for a comfortable atmosphere to relax and unwind. The gas fireplace in the living room is a perfect touch for cool evenings. The master bedroom suite offers complete privacy with a sunny tree top view. Outdoor flower gardens around the patio stem from our Vermont gardens, offering a peaceful outdoor sanctuary.
Look no further if you are looking for a peaceful spot on the Cape. This modern house was a fantastic find, nestled in a VERY quiet and interesting neighborhood. We loved the central AC, the bikes, the outdoor grill and the updated kitchen. We took the short cut mentioned by another reviewer to the Marconi beach, and it only took about 15 minutes on bike. It was also an easy bike ride to Wellfleet and north Eastham. Fresh baguettes at PB Boulangerie is not to be missed. Would have preferred the TV in the living room and some curtains in the upstairs bedroom, but that is a matter of personal preference. Highly recommended for a couple - we are already booked for next year.
My husband and I had not been to the Cape in over 15 years and decided it was finally time to revisit, and we are sure glad we did! This was our fourth trip to the Cape and by far the best due to location and abode; what an undiscovered gem in Wellfleet! This house is perfect for two (and maybe a guest or 2). With all of the amenities and perfectly appointed kitchen, we only ventured out for dinner a few times; otherwise, enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere provided by our wonderful hosts, Chris and Amy. The location is perfect with easy access to ocean or bay beaches and visits to P-Town. In fact, we had so much fun, we are coming back to another Cape Code summer on Blue Heron Drive! Thank you so much, Chris and Amy, for sharing your home away from home with us - can't wait for next year :)
I rented this property for my parents since they had never spent time on the Cape. First, this property is in a perfect location for exploring the Cape. Accessible to everything the Cape has to offer. Pictures won't do this property justice. It must be seen to be fully appreciated. The marsh in the back is stunning at sunset and the landscaping/potted flowers are beautiful. Something you don't see in a lot of rental properties but something that adds so much to a property. Attention to detail throughout. From the books and local artwork, to every last detail. Everything has been thought of and taken care of for your comfort. This property is well planned out....even though you're in a neighborhood, the property was designed to take full advantage of the views while still remaining private through placement of windows/doors etc. My parents had a wonderful time and it made them fall in love with the Cape so much that they are looking to return for two weeks next Summer. Thank you Chris and Amy for a wonderful stay!
Beautifully new house in the heart of my favorite part of Cape Cod. Close to the best beaches, restaurants, Bay, Ocean, Nature Center, shopping, Drive-In. This was the best house I've ever rented on the Cape. The Central AC was a blessing. The house has brand new appliances, a wonderful bedroom that feels like you are sleeping in the trees (there are no shades so the morning light comes in with a view of tree tops). The house was quiet, has 2 bathrooms (downstairs bathroom height is not for 6 ft or taller without hitting head). Great stone driveway for parking. I stared out the back window into trees and the beautiful marsh. Even saw a blue heron visiting. The basement is full of Cape Cod perfect equipment to maximize time at the beach (chairs, boogie boards) bycles and so much more. Totally worth the price.
This is a gem of a cottage. It's new, clean, beautifully appointed without being fussy. The kitchen had everything you need and the washer/dryer is an added bonus, which makes packing easier and lighter. The master bedroom is large, well-lit, and very comfortable. The pull out couch in the sunroom is surprisingly firm and offers a good night's sleep. The best part is the location. The marsh in the back is lovely! You can sit and watch the tide rise, then jump in a kayak and go out to inlets and the bay. (No mosquitos!) The neighbors are quiet, friendly and a comfortable distance away. You are a short drive to both bay and ocean beaches. Owners Chris and Amy have many wonderful recommendations for places to hike and bicycle, beaches to walk/swim and a full spectrum of restaurants on both the high and low end--all are delicious and fun.
In all, this is a perfectly lovely spot for a Wellfleet vacation. We loved it and we will return!
Thank you Chris and Amy for sharing your home with us.
The property is beautifully decorated, and has just about everything you could ever need. We drove down to the Wellfleet Market to get food for the week(a little pricy, bring food with you from home if you want to save a little money). The house is pretty well equipped with spices, oils, and condiments. Everything is very clean with all new appliances.
My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed the little get-away. We are in love with Marconi beach. It is just a 3 mile bike ride away. (bring a bike lock and helmets) The beach is incredible. Very sandy, great waves, and huge sand bars during low tide. The house is also very close to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. A great bike trail that runs for 22 miles.
We went to Van Rensselaer's Restaurant one night for dinner which was very good, and if you arrive early(between 4:00 - 5:30) they have early bird specials. For breakfast, I would highly recommend the french bakery, PB Boulangerie Bistro. They have the most amazing croissants ever!
Would definitely recommend this house to other couples, no matter what age, and families with older children. One tip: it can sleep 6 but 6 adults would be a little cramped. 2 couples would be comfortable here. The sun room has a pullout couch with a sliding door that becomes the second bedroom and the couch in the living room is also a fold out.
Thank you Amy for the wonderful vacation!
Our home is located on Cape Cod Bay and the Fresh Brook Estuary in South Wellfleet just 1 mile from the Cape Cod National Seashore (Marconi and Coast Guard Beach). Wildlife and nature abound in our backyard, the Mass Audobon's Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary.
The property provides easy access to the Cape Rail Trail from which you can ride south to Dennis or to any place in Wellfleet without driving on Busy Rte 6. Bay and Oceanside beaches including remote Great Island are nearby. Many fresh water lakes and ponds are a short car or bike ride away. Deep sea fish from a local harbor or fish from the shores for seasonal favorites like Stripped Bass and Bluefish. Whether Kayaking or SUP boarding in the backyard or simply strolling the beaches for sea shells, this house offers it all.
The proximity to Rte 6 allows easy access to many nearby activities without the crowds. The Wellfleet Drive-In & Movie theater is 1 mile from the house. Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is just up the street. Museums, shopping, fine art galleries, and antique shops are found in Wellfleet and just south a few miles in Eastham. Indoor rock climbing and mini-golf can be found just down the street.
Restaurants within a few miles include American fare, fine French dining and bakery (PB Boulangerie Bistro), BBQ, clam shacks, Thai, and a fresh fish market.
Sitting in the back yard among our flowers watching the Blue Herons or riding a bike to your favorite Wellfleet destination offers the perfect opportunity to escape the summer crowds and relax.
