About Betty Tully

My daughter Jo and myself manage the cottage and live on the estate. The cottage was designed for complete privacy - although if you need/want personal contact we are nearby. We love the Sooke area , know it well and are always delighted to introduce people to it.

Betty Tully purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Betty Tully chose Sooke

1265 ft of wild ocean frontage with two accessible private beaches pretty much sums it up. There are also magnificent tall trees, trails through the rain forest, gardens, the beach house and stunning views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Mountains.

What makes this cottage unique

In this Architect designed luxury cottage guests will enjoy the original artwork by Alex Fong, quality linens, the up-to-date kitchen, and the wood stove The cottage is near the point of land known as Otter Point. Otter Point is the only place in the area where you can cast a fishing line from shore and catch a salmon.

Great Vacation Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage at Seward was a great get away spot! It has a beautiful view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca with trails right to the water's edge. On the property, we saw rabbits, otters, deer, quail, eagles and Bella the resident cat. In the strait we saw whales, seals and sea lions. The cottage was clean and comfortable and Betty was a wonderful host!

Overall, a great place...!

I would highly recommend this property. Everything is exactly as described. No surprises. All appliances etc work. Kitchen well equipped. Lots of linens. Betty is a wonderful host. Lots to do at the cottage as well as in Victoria. Ocean views from every window are fantastic. Saw orcas and seals from the cottage!

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This guest cottage is truly outstanding. The location overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca is dramatic, the beaches a delight, and the cottage beautifully designed and completely equipped for a brief or extended stay. Betty is a wonderful hostess - available whenever we needed her assistance but with complete respect for our privacy.

Escape from everything

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage it was perfect for our stay to really get away from everything a re-connect as a family. It is even better than the pictures show with a perfect view of the ocean from the master bedroom.

It contained all the amenities you need and the kitchen had everything required to cook like you were at home. The gardens are lovely, perfect for watching hummingbirds and space for the kids to run around. The beaches were great for the kids to go climbing, fishing, rock skimming and watching for wildlife. We were really lucky to see a group of 12 otters one evening swimming close to the rocks and we even spotted a golden eagle. We also slept in the beach house one night to be really close to the ocean.

Betty was a really great host, explaining everything we might need to know about the house and the local area, she was very friendly and easy to interact with.

This home was well beyond our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived it was nothing short of perfection! The home and yard are much larger and more beautiful than the pictures. Flowers everywhere. Betty warmly greeted us and introduced us to the house... along with chocolates, tea and coffee waiting. Our daughters were in heaven. The beach is a minute walk away through forest trails and the beach is truly a child's playground! Lots of boulders to play on and treasures to find. Sooke is a great landing point, because whatever direction you go, there is something fantastic to see or do. The zip lining at AdrenaLine was a great experience for our kids and our outing to Port Renfrew was magical. The hiking near Sooke can't be beat. Potholes Park... also beautiful. And then of course there's Victoria! The house was a great place to unwind at the end of a busy day. The BBQ and outdoor seating was a huge plus. And it was great for our Golden Retriever because of the tile floor and rocky beaches... no messy sand! We absolutely loved it! Thanks Betty!

Absolutely Gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 10 year old daughter recently stayed at Seaward and I can't say enough how much we enjoyed it! The property, home, beaches, and Betty's hospitality were absolutely wonderful. Everything from the meticulously manicured gardens, the overall design of the home and beach house, to the onsite trails leading to the beaches...it was a slice of perfection! We'd recommend this as a destination for anyone visiting the Sooke area, it will not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded all of our expectations! Thanks again to Betty for her kindness and opening her home to us!

Main attractions are the many wild beaches with the ocean either stormy or calm as glass. See ocean wildlife such as Orcas, seals, sea lions and otters. For birdwatchers there are eagles, ospreys, owls, grebes, loons, herons and even the occasional pelican. There are world ranked restaurants such as Sooke Harbour House specializing in serving local produce. Fishing in the area is perhaps the best of the Island. Whale watching is well worth the experience. Bring your camera!
