Overview

University District House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms/1 Bath (Sleeps 4-5) Modern Mid-Century Mountainside Retreat

Unique into itself, this Mid-Century Modern home sits within 45 acres of open space. It is perched above Missoula, on Mt. Sentinel. This mountain is also home to our infamous “M”, and it sits directly beside the University of Montana. Mountainside’s backyard trail system connects with the “M” trail system. One can walk out the back door, and hike to your heart’s content. The home offers city wide views, as well as and the Mountains surrounding our valley. From Mountainside's floor to ceiling front windows the entire Missoula valley is framed. Walk out the front door, sit on the deck, and you are one with this landscape.

The home itself was designed by one of Montana’s premier architects, Bill Fox. This 1960’s modern, is well thought out, and extremely comfortable year round. The home offers two large bedrooms. Each has its own unique view, queen bed, and large closet. Mountainside has clean architectural lines, with modern and well placed furnishings. This allows for its architecture to be admired, not to mention the hard wood built-in cabinets to shine. The living/dining area extends seamlessly into the kitchen, and again, out to the front deck for your sunset views and outdoor living. A barbeque/picnic area is connected to the kitchens’ back door. The home affords complete privacy within its showcase interior.

The home has two bedrooms equipped with queen beds, and walk-in closets. A full bath sits beside these bedrooms. The home offers for convenient and comfortable hospitality for socializing.

Mountainside offers this sense of remoteness, within 10 minutes of the Missoula city center. Join the Missoula locals for the farmers market, or a gallery walk. Play a round of golf, in your own front yard, or hit the ski slopes within 20 minutes of town.

Great views and the BEST kitchen

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have used VRBO quite a few times; all of our stays have been terrific for one unique reason or another. This place is definitely worth a return visit or three. The view from the deck is terrific. As stated elsewhere, watching storms blow through the valley is awesome. Our visit was in mid spring, so it was not quite "hot" out, but the deck is huge and prime for laying out in the day or moving a table out for early evening dining.

The kitchen is simply the best equipped kitchen we have seen. Professional grade stock kettles, roasting pans, knives, cutting boards, food processors, kitchenaid mixer, two separate sinks, gas range, salad spinner, great china, lots of silverware. We would like to go back and host a large dinner party from this kitchen. It seems to have been set up with that in mind.

On top of that, it was central - only a few minutes from downtown Missoula and though we did not check out the nearby trail, it looks like good hiking is only a quick walk (or bike ride) in the other direction. At the same time we had great privacy since the house is up a hill, on a dirt road, and set off by itself. There was an older college student staying in the downstairs apartment, but other than saying "hi" on the first day, we did not see him.

All in all a great stay, we'll go back at the first opportunity.

Fantastic Property!

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying at this awesome property for over a week.. First off the house is completely stocked and the beds are comfy.. Cool furniture, and floor to ceiling windows..Second the deck is large and has amazing views of all of Missoula.. Deck faces West, so many sunsets to watch! Location is minutes from the University (walk or bike) and a short drive to downtown.. Hoagieville (Missoula staple) is just down the road.. We spent many nights entertaining friends on the deck/hillside enjoy the great Montana sky.. Marianne is a pleasure to work with and anything I needed was a text/phone call away. Highly recommend. We will be back..

Amazing views and mid-century charm

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful mid-century modern home sits in a perfect locattion, just outside of downtown, on the side of mountain with open space trails galore, and views to die for. The house is furnished to perfection and makes for a perfect base for a Missoula get-away. As an architect, I covet this house!

The most beautiful view in Missoula

  • 5 of 5

This property is so gorgeous with views of the Missoula Valley, and the wildlife that grazes the mountiain meadows on each side remind one of the Serengeti. The house is VERY comfortable with a huge deck and outdoor fire pit.

The kitchen is first class, the owner apparently is a professional chef. For us, the best part is the absolutely authentic mid centery decor. This is a perfect retreat and minutes from downtown and the Hip Strip.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

My time at Mountainside Retreat was absolutely wonderful! The views are stunning, the house is beautiful and very well maintained, and the location is great. It has a private, peaceful feel, yet is within a short bike ride or drive to town. I especially enjoyed the hiking trails right out the door and the gorgeous deck to watch the sunset from. Highly recommended!
