Darling Log Cabin/ Ht Tub/Near Electra Lk/Canoe/Views

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Picture a cozy log cabin situated in the scenic San Juan Mountains and whether its summer or winter you have the perfect Colorado vacation site!

It is a serene place where you are able to enjoy the amenities of Purgatory Ski and Summer Resort and the historic town of Durango without the crowds and noise.

Even your pooch can enjoy the mountains. (NOTE: Dogs must be preapproved by owner. Will need to know age, breed

and approx. weight. The is a $100 pet fee for preapproved dogs.)

This is a real log cabin nestled in a beautiful heavily wooded area near two high mountain lakes but close to Durango (20 minute drive in the summer) and 12 minutes south of Purgatory Resort. The closest lake is Electra Lake which is a 20 min hike or 5 minute drive. We even have a canoe with car carrier that you can use! The fishing is great and there is a wonderful restaurant right on the lake open in summer.

The cabin has three bedrooms (two with queen beds and one with a twin bed and a set of bunk beds) with cozy down comforters and comfortable mattresses) plus two baths. The downstairs queen bedroom has a flat screen T.V. and views of the woods. (Watch for deer or elk!)

There is also a flat screen T.V. in the living room as well as an IPod/IPhone dock for playing your own music. A portable DVD player is available for your favorite movies. We have a small library of books and movies for your use.

Sit in front of the fire or soak in the hot tub under the stars. There are no street lights so the night skies are just amazing! Enjoy the mountain serenity while dining outside on the patio. A gas BBQ is available in summer to cook up all the fish you catch!!

A full kitchen and washer & dryer offer all the comforts of home.

A short 7-12 minute drive takes you to the Purgatory Ski and Summer Resort, home to some of the best Nordic and Alpine skiing in the Rockies. After a exhilerating day skiing or boarding, enjoy a soak or sip hot chocolate in front of the wood fire. How about a romantic sleigh ride and then cozy dinner, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or simply reading in front of the fire. This winter wonderland is perfect for relaxing or enjoying winter sports.

Speaking of summer, the area comes alive with scenic chair lift rides, alpine slides, music festivals, and world class mountain biking. Look out your front windows of the cabin for a wooded aspen and pine view with a backdrop of mountains. Visitors love that this northen area of Durango is often 8-10 degrees cooler in the summer than downtown Durango! This charming cabin is surrounded by hundreds of miles of scenic hiking and biking trails where wild flowers, waterfalls, and wildlife abound.

Perhaps you would enjoy white water rafting, world class fly fishing or golfing. Or take a ride on the famous Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad to an Old Mining Town. Visit Gold Mines... Ghost Towns... 'Go Jeeping' on Incredible Mountain Passes! Serenity and beauty surround you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Colorado is such a great relief from south Texas. We love the mountains and the Durango/Silverton area. Staying at your cabin made our vacation so much nicer. The location is convenient for going to many lakes, parks and tourist attractions. Thanks again from all of us.

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at the Mackey Cabin for a week during the month of July. There were seven of us altogether, with our adult children joining us from all across the country. My husband and I both agreed that this was probably the most beautiful area in Colorado that we had ever visited. The cabin is just as pictured on the website and met our needs quite well. It's a great location, as it's situated between Durango and Silverton, offering a true mountain experience and easy access to several tourist areas. Kimberly was a wonderful host, checking in with us several times during our stay to offer suggestions for events that were happening in Durango, to arrange to pick up our trash, to keep us informed about bear activity in the area, etc. I'd highly recommend visiting this part of Colorado and staying at the Mackey Cabin while you're here.

Great cabin with AMAZING views!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything we expected and it is in a perfect location with great views. Kimberly provided everything we needed and even kept us up to date on places to hike. The cabin slept all seven of us comfortably and the views were amazing. If you like to fish check out Haviland lake which is only a five minute drive from the cabin. We caught some huge trout there. Thanks for a wonderful week Kimberly and we can't wait to come back! Oh the hot tub made for some relaxing evenings after long hikes!

We really enjoyed our stay! We were close to great hiking which kept us busy most of our stay, and the cabin was a very relaxing place to come home to after a long day of hiking. Thank you for a very nice time!

Nice clean place. Comfortable beds nice layout. Great small hot tub, decent grill. Too many rules

  • 4 of 5

Very friendly helpful owner. Nice location once you find it. It was a nice place. Very clean but too many rules. Bedrooms were great and comfortable. Also the living room furniture not comfortable or really enough relaxed seating for more than 3 people. Just didn't have a warm homey feel. Nice price, very clean well maintained. Would stay again just not first choice

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your feedback on The Mackey Log Cabin. So glad you enjoyed most of your stay and how well you took care of the cabin. We are always trying to balance necessary rules (that often are for safety issues as well as those imposed by us by the homeowners assn. etc) with trying to make our guests feel welcome and not too restricted. I have a let a message inviting you to call me to discuss those you thought excessive. We certainly want to address any concerns our guests have ! We have found that majority of our guests find a love seat and two wing back chairs comfortable for 4 and we do provide additional chairs in closet. Unfortunately the restrictions of the floor plans puts some limits on options. This is the first time I have heard this complaint in 18 years but I am truly sorry you were not comfortable. Thanks so much for being our guests!!

Great cabin getaway

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was exactly as described cozy yet with ample space. The hot tub made our stay over the top. If you are looking for a great place to stay for snowboarding/skiing I definitely recommend this place it's so close to purgatory and yet nice and tucked away. Kimberly is a great host and quickly answers questions.
