Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Picture a cozy log cabin situated in the scenic San Juan Mountains and whether its summer or winter you have the perfect Colorado vacation site!

It is a serene place where you are able to enjoy the amenities of Purgatory Ski and Summer Resort and the historic town of Durango without the crowds and noise.

This is a real log cabin nestled in a beautiful heavily wooded area near two high mountain lakes but close to Durango (20 minute drive in the summer) and 12 minutes south of Purgatory Resort. The closest lake is Electra Lake which is a 20 min hike or 5 minute drive. We even have a canoe with car carrier that you can use! The fishing is great and there is a wonderful restaurant right on the lake open in summer.

The cabin has three bedrooms (two with queen beds and one with a twin bed and a set of bunk beds) with cozy down comforters and comfortable mattresses) plus two baths. The downstairs queen bedroom has a flat screen T.V. and views of the woods. (Watch for deer or elk!)

There is also a flat screen T.V. in the living room as well as an IPod/IPhone dock for playing your own music. A portable DVD player is available for your favorite movies. We have a small library of books and movies for your use.

Sit in front of the fire or soak in the hot tub under the stars. There are no street lights so the night skies are just amazing! Enjoy the mountain serenity while dining outside on the patio. A gas BBQ is available in summer to cook up all the fish you catch!!

A full kitchen and washer & dryer offer all the comforts of home.

A short 7-12 minute drive takes you to the Purgatory Ski and Summer Resort, home to some of the best Nordic and Alpine skiing in the Rockies. After a exhilerating day skiing or boarding, enjoy a soak or sip hot chocolate in front of the wood fire. How about a romantic sleigh ride and then cozy dinner, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or simply reading in front of the fire. This winter wonderland is perfect for relaxing or enjoying winter sports.

Speaking of summer, the area comes alive with scenic chair lift rides, alpine slides, music festivals, and world class mountain biking. Look out your front windows of the cabin for a wooded aspen and pine view with a backdrop of mountains. Visitors love that this northen area of Durango is often 8-10 degrees cooler in the summer than downtown Durango! This charming cabin is surrounded by hundreds of miles of scenic hiking and biking trails where wild flowers, waterfalls, and wildlife abound.

Perhaps you would enjoy white water rafting, world class fly fishing or golfing. Or take a ride on the famous Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad to an Old Mining Town. Visit Gold Mines... Ghost Towns... 'Go Jeeping' on Incredible Mountain Passes! Serenity and beauty surround you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Colorado is such a great relief from south Texas. We love the mountains and the Durango/Silverton area. Staying at your cabin made our vacation so much nicer. The location is convenient for going to many lakes, parks and tourist attractions. Thanks again from all of us.

Great cabin getaway

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was exactly as described cozy yet with ample space. The hot tub made our stay over the top. If you are looking for a great place to stay for snowboarding/skiing I definitely recommend this place it's so close to purgatory and yet nice and tucked away. Kimberly is a great host and quickly answers questions.

Nice getaway

  • 5 of 5

What great cozy cabin! The hot tub was a nice added bonus. As others have pointed out, it's far away to provide some peaceful R&R, but close enough to anything you need for your trip! Definitely would recommend this place for anyone wanting that cabin experience in the woods!

Great location and get away!!

  • 5 of 5

Spent our anniversary here, it was absolutely perfect! Very nice, well kept cabin and hot tub. We loved the location, just far enough away from town and close enough to several outdoor activities we enjoy. Really wish we would have planned staying longer than 3 nights...maybe next year!

Perfect quiet location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a quiet week here in mid-august and had a great time. Being from Oklahoma, we really enjoyed the early morning temperatures in the 40's. I cannot emphasize enough how quiet and peaceful it is here. Sometimes you can hear critters outside in the middle of the night. Most other cabins is the area appear to be permanent residences so it is very quiet, clean and well-kept. We enjoyed the 20 minute drive to Durango and the scenery...never tired of it. Awesome!

Note that there is virtually no cellular service (AT&T) at the cabin. When we arrived and the Wi-Fi did not work (owner fixed it quickly), we hoped to use our cell phone hotspots to get online but were not able to get service. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of.

The cabin itself is very nice. Well-equipped with everything you will need. It is a "shoes off" cabin which is not typical of cabins in the woods.

The only issue we had was that there are not window coverings on several of the first floor windows. The only one that is an issue is the downstairs bathroom tub/shower. The window is up high but, for anybody taller than 5'7"-ish, their upper body (more than just their head) is clearly visible from outside the cabin. My wife felt VERY uncomfortable showering in this situation. We feel that some plastic curtains or frosted glass would be appropriate for this window.

Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed our stay at this peaceful cabin.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for nice comments. So glad you enjoyed the cabin and the area. I am confused about your inability to get cell service since ATT is the second best provider of cell service in the area. Occasionally mountain weather might interfere with reception but we have had no complains about no service at all! We are so sorry that happened and suggest checking with ATT. Out of the 10 windows in the cabin only 3 small ones do not have blinds. This is our first complaint in 20 years!! We certainly understand your concerns and will remedy this issue immediately. By the way, this area is very rural and has little human and vehicle traffic and almost non existence crime. We feel so safe and unconcerned that many of the windows in our own home have no window treatments. (We live in this same area). We do appreciate, however, that folks coming to a strange area might feel uncomfortable. Thank you so much for being our guests and assisting us in making the cabin better for future guests. Kimberly

Perfect place for our family trip to Durango. Not too far away from town, but away from the crowds. Hot tub was great after a long day. Would recommend this place to anyone.
