About Candace Cave
We are healers and authors. We've both lived in So. Oregon for more than 10 years and have worked and played together for more than 5 years. We fell in love with this property in the late fall of 2010 and moved aside much of our work in the world to develop it into a space for our healing visions to unfold. Now that the structural remodeling is complete, we are slowly developing the ample land (0.4 acre) into a healing garden based on the chakras. We enjoy a daily Ashtanga-type yoga practice that you are welcome to sample if it suits you (inquire about practice times). We host on-going, open embodiment meditation classes, 5:45-7:00pm, Zeb on Mondays and Candance on Wednesdays. Learn more on our website.
Candace Cave purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Candace Cave chose Ashland
We found this property when we were not even looking for somewhere to purchase. Dr. Zeb wanted to move out of Talent into a rental home where we could guide groups of people in our work. He hurt his shoulder and Candace took him to the chiropractor on the NE corner of Hersey & Main Street. She saw the realtor sign on the empty property, looked in the window and viewed exactly the dream space for the vision, then called the realtor. In bank foreclosure, the impressive 2-story vintage house had been mostly updated inside, and the 0.4 acre property 4-blocks north of Ashland's Downtown plaza was a price we could actually afford to purchase. We spent the next two years (2011-2012) putting every bit of spare time and money we could muster into creating habitable spaces in the existing outbuildings to accommodate our work. The interior of Lhasa House was originally designed as Dr. Zeb's office. Circumstances and desire have motivated us to make it available as traveler's accommodation.
What makes this Cottage unique
Lhasa House gives you complete freedom and privacy. It is as if you are staying in your own home. The front doorway leads down a delightful path right out onto Hersey Street where there is ample street parking. The building was originally a mechanics garage, but over the past two years, we've turned it into a delightfully habitable space. Well insulated, with lots of natural daylight, it is quiet and private.

Great little studio house, conveniently located to downtown Ashland
Great little spot for a couple. The house opens up to a beautiful garden through the backdoor. Very clean and comfortable. Tiny little kitchen, perfect for lite breakfast or snacks. Conveniently located to downtown Ashland, a 15 minute walk to great dining, shopping and entertainment. Host has provided a great guide to the spots to see and avoid. It was also a great spot for a day trip to Crater Lake, and wine tasting in Rogue area.
Pleasant but not outstanding.
No host presence. Very small space. Features of property exaggerated.
Lovely stay, great location
Candace & Zeb are welcoming and accommodating hosts -- this is our second stay with them. The property is beautiful, and they put considerable work into the earth-friendly gardens. We enjoyed hummingbirds and other birds right from our doorstep! The space is fully stocked with everything you need, and if you need something else, they will assist. The rooms are clean and the linens are luxurious. The site itself is just a 10-minute walk to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters, and about the same to the Ashland Food Coop, so for us, it is close to everything we need when we come to town. We will surely hope to stay with Candace & Zeb again on our next visit to Ashland!
The Zen Cottage was just about perfect. I say just about because next time I would opt for one of the cottages with a bigger kitchen- just a personal preference. The location was great within easy walking distance to downtown. The gardens that we had access to proved to be a quiet retreat to sit and have a glass of wine and unwind. The cottage was very quiet and peaceful.
Candace and Zeb were quite attentive if we needed anything.
We hope to return next year!!
Nice property and convenient location
The house is cute and comfortable. Nce bathroom, and the living area was cozy. The kitchen is quite small and not really for cooking much, but there is an adequate fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker. The owners supplied coffee, sugar, and cream. The gardens were very pretty and we enjoyed sitting out back. There is a hot tub on the premises (you pay a bit extra) but I had not been aware of that beforehand. Prior to arrival, we had to communicate with Candace regarding nearby fires and smoke, and she was always responsive and helpful. Zeb was also responsive and friendly. Be prepared for an extra $100 deposit, which will hopefully be refunded quickly.
You were lovely guests, and you treated Lhasa House and our gardens with respect, so there's no problem with refunding the damage deposit. We wanted to let you know that our damage deposit is withheld by VRBO for 7 days, in case we make a claim, and then it is automatically refunded. We never actually see those $$, and of course we didn't make a claim for your stay because you were great guests! Best Wishes, Candace
Fabulous Garden, Spacious Living, Close to Everything
Really loved staying at Chakra Garden of Ashland. This cottage, Lhasa House, has a beautiful private front entrance and a back door that opens into a wonderful, peaceful, colorful, and diverse garden. Even though close to a main road, the interior of the cottage was quiet and very comfortable. We felt to be in a oasis, a sanctuary from the heat and the bustle of outside interference. While staying here, we played ping pong, swung in the hammock, soaked in the hot tub, sat outside in the shade and played chess under the apple tree. We explored a variety of different walks to take us into town, none longer than 15-minutes, and felt settled as if we were part of Ashland's larger community. We will definitely stay at Chakra Garden again!
Walk 4-blocks south along Main Street to dine and shop in the heart of Ashland's Downtown area - the Plaza - or one block further to Lithia Park nature trails or the Oregon Shakespeare Festival stages.
Take a short walk north and eat at two of Ashland's favorite restaurants: Breadboard serves delicious breakfast fare and Big Al's Burgers provides hearty diner food. There's a Minute Mart 1 block south, and Ashland Food Coop is a 6-block stroll through the Historic Skidmore Academy District towards the Railroad District.
If you are visiting Ashland to take a class, Lhasa House is 2-blocks up the street from the Kagyu Sukha Choling Center for the Practice of Tibetan Buddhism, 3-blocks from Ashland Institute of Massage Therapy (AIM), and 4-blocks from the United Bicycle Institute.
North Mountain Park and also Bear Creek Greenway (27 miles of biking from Ashland to Central Point) are each less than 3/4 mile away.
