A completely modernized and huge flat-style apartment in a “century” structure in Ottawa’s central Lowertown East neighborhood. The apartment is part of a purpose-built duplex constructed in 1892 in a residential enclave bordered by the bank of the Rideau River (at Wurtemburg St.), St. Patrick St. and Cobourg St. The area is increasingly referred to as Macdonald Gardens because it encompasses the historic Macdonald Gardens Park.

473 Clarence is an extremely walkable location: Parliament Hill, the Central Business District, the University of Ottawa, the historic Byward Market, the National Gallery, DFAIT, DND HQ, Rideau Falls, Rideau Hall and other destinations can easily be reached in less than 30 minutes on foot in any weather.

Transit is also available: major transit routes serving Ottawa and with connections to Gatineau are located on the next corner at Cobourg St. The property has excellent access to the Macdonald-Cartier Intraprovincial Bridge to Gatineau, Highways 5 North and 50 East.

About Allison

I live in the downstairs apartment with my family and I work for the Parliament of Canada. Originally from Vancouver,British Columbia, we moved to Ottawa 13 years ago and love it.

I like to get places on foot and this location is perfect. The downtown CBD is 30 mins of walking. Governor General's and Rideau Falls are 30 mins in the other direction. Byward Market is 15 and New Edinburgh village is 15 the other way.

Why Allison chose Ottawa

We love the neighbourhood. Is is a quiet downtown suburb: close to everything with a mix of families and young professionals. We moved to this property in order to have some 'fun' gutting and renovating an old building.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is beautifully laid out with large dining and living rooms as well as three bedrooms nicely spaced out in separate corners of the apartment. The large, private, covered, balcony is a gorgeous place to sit and have a coffee or glass of wine in any weather. There are windows on every side of the house so the light is always streaming in somewhere.

Cozy and wonderful upgrade

Alison upgraded us from our original upstairs booking to her downstairs one which contained a gas fireplace and granite counters in the kitchen. The space was clean, light and bright. Alison left some lovely food amenities for us upon our arrival which was sweet and unexpected. They even cleared the snow from the front steps!! I would highly recommend this unit and Alison as a landlord.

An Excellent Place to Stay in Ottawa!

My husband, myself, and our three children (ages 12, 12 and 13) stayed at Alison's property during the last weekend of Winterlude 2017. The place was clean, and we were easily able to drive and park near the canal. Alison was helpful, and we had no problems during our stay. Ottawa is a special city with much to see and do (and great places to eat). This is a great place to stay, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Best Deal in Ottawa

This place was the perfect spot for a recent corporate trip for multiple people to attend a conference. It is conveniently located, and the owner makes it so simple to book, check in, and be aware of necessary details. With a late arrival time, she went in and turned lights on. She also left snacks for the guests to have while there. It was a welcoming place, and all of the guests had positive feedback for me. I would recommend this place any time.

Lovely 3 bedroom home near Byward Market

We stayed for two weeks (Oct/Nov) in this wonderful home. Allison is as nice and accommodating as any host we have ever met and this unit is a certain five star. Being avid VRBO users (>100 nights in 2016), that is saying a lot. This top floor unit (2nd floor) was spotlessly clean and well appointed with good quality kitchen utensils, pots, plates and glassware for at least 10 people. In fact we had a local family meal with 13 and had 10 at the dining room table!

The beds were comfortable and the linens good quality. Allison left many condiments in the fridge and there were lots of basic food supplies which helped augment our home cooked meals. The floor was slightly sloped from age but that only added charm to the quaintness of the place. Lots of places to walk close by and the veranda allowed for some quiet time in the sun during the afternoons. We will be back!

Not only perfect for families, but for anyone who enjoys a home away from home. A clean, bright, tastefully decorated and comfortable unit with well-stocked kitchen, beautiful dining area and adjoining living room. The owner takes great pride in the quality of her apartment, and was easily available and very helpful. There was a welcoming breakfast spread which was a great start to our stay. We would highly recommend this property and will certainly reserve it the next time we visit grandchildren in Ottawa.

Exceeded our expectations!

This apt is exactly as described. The cleanest place I have ever rented on Homeaway and I have rented MANY! Location is amazing . All the little extras made our visit special ... Allison left yogurt, milk, bread eggs etc etc bathroom had plenty of soap, TP and amenities ! She thought of everything from bathrobes to umbrellas. If you are looking for recommendations for things to do I have 2 that are a MUST TO ! Check out the Nordik Spa a 15 minute drive worth every penny what an experience and dinner at Vittoria Trattoria in the bymarket!
