A completely modernized and huge flat-style apartment in a “century” structure in Ottawa’s central Lowertown East neighborhood. The apartment is part of a purpose-built duplex constructed in 1892 in a residential enclave bordered by the bank of the Rideau River (at Wurtemburg St.), St. Patrick St. and Cobourg St. The area is increasingly referred to as Macdonald Gardens because it encompasses the historic Macdonald Gardens Park.

473 Clarence is an extremely walkable location: Parliament Hill, the Central Business District, the University of Ottawa, the historic Byward Market, the National Gallery, DFAIT, DND HQ, Rideau Falls, Rideau Hall and other destinations can easily be reached in less than 30 minutes on foot in any weather.

Transit is also available: major transit routes serving Ottawa and with connections to Gatineau are located on the next corner at Cobourg St. The property has excellent access to the Macdonald-Cartier Intraprovincial Bridge to Gatineau, Highways 5 North and 50 East.

About Allison

I live in the downstairs apartment with my family and I work for the Parliament of Canada. Originally from Vancouver,British Columbia, we moved to Ottawa 10 years ago and love it.

I like to get places on foot and this location is perfect. The downtown CBD is 30 mins of walking. Governor General's and Rideau Falls are 30 mins in the other direction. Byward Market is 15 and New Edinburgh village is 15 the other way.

Why Allison chose Ottawa

We love the neighbourhood. Is is a quiet downtown suburb: close to everything with a mix of families and young professionals. We moved to this property in order to have some 'fun' gutting and renovating an old building.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is beautifully laid out with large dining and living rooms as well as three bedrooms nicely spaced out in separate corners of the apartment. The large, private, covered, balcony is a gorgeous place to sit and have a coffee or glass of wine in any weather. There are windows on every side of the house so the light is always streaming in somewhere.

Impressive

Three of us recently stayed at 473 Clarence for six nights to attend a wedding. We were all very impressed with the apartment. "Wow" was the word on entry by all of us. Other members of the family stayed in hotels. We bragged constantly about our place as it was far better than a hotel room!! Lots of living space and overall, good value!

The unit was very clean and modern, yet retaining the heritage of the building. Allison had stocked the apartment with everything one would need to get started with such things as eggs, juice, bread, yogurt, milk, coffee, frozen pizza, and fruit, along with items from previous occupants. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and utensils. One does not want to eat out every night so with a grocery store nearby, we could cook at "home."

The entire unit was fully stocked with everything one would need. It really was a home away from home. Beds were comfy. There was also plenty of storage space to unpack. There is a washer and dryer in the unit if needed.

What we enjoyed was the opportunity to sit on the balcony at night having a glass of wine or coffee in the morning and watch the "world go by."

We found it to be a very quiet neighbourhood with easy access to downtown Ottawa.

Allison is a very attentive owner who really cares about her guests. A couple of times she checked in by email to see if everything was okay and if she could offer any assistance.

A great find and it would be our first choice if we ever return to Ottawa. A great apartment!!

Excellent Accomodation for Families or Groups

My husband and I along with our 2 adult children stayed here in July 2016 and were very impressed with the location of the home as well as the extra touches Compliments of Allison. The kitchen is fully stocked including enough items to make breakfast and other meals. The beds are very comfortable and the deck is a really nice place to enjoy coffee in the morning or sit in the evenings. We definitely will stay here again and recommend it for families or groups as the home is spacious and located close to Byward Market and all the major sights.

Exceptional 473 Clarence

We were thrilled with this apartment. It was spacious, spotless and centrally located. The bedrooms were also spacious and the layout was superb. We particularly enjoyed having a covered balcony to relax in the evenings.

The listing location and pictures were exactly as is.

The owner was very responsive to any questions we had.

We loved being able to walk to the Byward market in a matter of minutes and were also happy to be located close to grocery shops.

Allison made some great recommendations of places to eat, however we did not discover this list until we were leaving.

I would rate this property a 5 star and recommend it to anyone.

Great Stay!

Although the unit's flooring is some spots noticeably needed to be leveled, the unit was clean and tidy, and had all the amenities you could possibly need. The beds were comfortable, the living room and dining room sufficient to fit our family of 5 and the balcony was comfortable and cool enough to draw us outside. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook full meals including condiments, spices, etc. The washer and dryer, although small, was a bonus. The location is within walking distance to the downtown area, which was a blessing as detours due to downtown road construction was abominable. Overall our stay was fantastic. Allison was accommodating and helpful and I would recommend this property without any hesitation. Thank you Allison!

Perfect vacation home

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We had an unexpected extension to our vacation and had the opportunity to stay in both of the apartments that Allison has in this property. They were both spotlessly clean. They were very conveniently located to central Ottawa and the Byward Market but were quiet at night. Allison really respected our privacy, but responded very quickly when needed. Each apartment was very spacious and Allison thought of every detail, including a well stocked pantry. On top of that the apartments were beautifully decorated. Lovely place to come home to every evening. We would love to stay again on our next visit to Ottawa.
