Deluxe 1 Bedroom Cabin with Hot Tub and Shenandoah Riverfront

”It is the marriage of the soul with Nature that makes the intellect fruitful, and gives birth to imagination.” Henry David Thoreau

Welcome to Walden! A place that combines the beauty of the natural world with the warmth of a modern cabin. Located on 54 acres along the historic Shenandoah River, Walden offers one of the most spectacular retreats in the valley.

Completed in 2013, Walden is a deluxe one bedroom cabin that is timeless. Nature prevails through every window with the sweeping views of the land that surrounds you. From the moment you arrive the feeling is captivating. Walden offers a spacious living room with natural wood cathedral ceilings, a gas log fireplace, flat screen (satelite) TV, DVD, High Speed Wireless Internet, Stereo and a queen sleep sofa. The kitchen is fully equipped and for dining you have the option of eating inside, or just a step away, you can dine outside on an 8x12 screen porch. The bedroom has a queen bed, ceiling fan and 14 foot cathedral ceilings. Walk through the patio door on to the front porch and settle into a warm, relaxing hot tub.

A gradual walk through the field will take you to the river where you can relax under the shade of the sycamore trees, dip your feet into the Shenandoah or have a relaxing evening around a fire. (The riverfront is solely for the use of our guests at Walden and Sundance, {VRBO#385043} Although Walden and Sundance share the riverfront, the two cabins are completely private from one anther.)

Walden is a place where you can understand what Thoreau meant when he wrote, “Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself the influences of each”

About Derek Goebel

I designed Walden to bring conform with its environment and bring the outside world into the cabin. This cabin, along with Sundance (VRBO 385043) are both designed and built by Woodside Cabins.

Derek Goebel purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Derek Goebel chose Shenandoah Valley

Walden is a brand new cabin that was just finished in February 2013. This deluxe one bedroom cabin offers all the modern amenities set in a unique private setting on the Shenandoah River.

What makes this cabin unique

Walden is located on the historic Shenandoah River bordering 54 acres of beautiful open land. Wildlife abounds on the property. A mowed path takes you to the river where you will find a firepit, chairs and easy access to the water. Wade into the Shenandoah and cast a line for some of the best small mouth bass fishing on the east coast.

Well kept and very clean

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Walden for four days. Upon our arrival and walking into the cabin it was very well kept and very clean. We needed a relaxing atmosphere and we got it. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning, sit on the porch with a cup of coffee to watch the sun rise over the mountains and watch the deer run through the field. Then we took a stroll to the edge of the property to sit by the river which was absolutely gorgeous to watch. Although tucked away from the everyday hustle and bustle, it only took us 15 minutes to reach town to acquire items that we needed. We enjoyed every minute that we stayed and will be returning for a longer trip next time. Thank you so very much for the use of the cabin, it truly was a great experience!

Scenery and solitude

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were looking to get out of the city and made the great escape to this cabin. It was the perfect weekend retreat to recharge our batteries. The accommodations were immaculately clean and we had everything we needed. Luray had some very good restaurants to offer and plenty of activities around Luray Caverns especially the gem sluicing.

Thank you for a wonderful stay can't wait until we can get out of the city again! We especially liked being able to bring our dog!

Beautiful Cabin set amidst priceless scenery and open space

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is nestled right along the river on a vast piece of property. On the backroad to reach the cabin you pass quite a few other houses but once there you immediately forget that you're near anyone. For isolation, this can't be beat. The cabin is extremely well maintained. very clean and new looking - new appliances, DVD, DTV, etc. The gas fireplace is a nice touch although its warmth tends to emanate up rather than out. Big bedroom with porch door between you and really nice, comfy hot tub with room for four overlooking the land and the river. Mattress very comfortable. Firepit 20 feet from front door. 15 minutes to Luray (small town with groceries, few restaurants, coffee). Fifteen minutes from Front Royal (slightly bigger town). Half hour from entrance to skyline drive. Owner very thoughtful and available - left delicious cookies upon our arrival. Overall couldn't have been more pleased with the stay. Oh, and well-stocked kitchen!

Amazingly cozy winter getaway!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Walden! We have stayed at many cabins in the Shenandoah area and this was one of our favorite ones yet! From the hot tub to the panoramic views from the porch to the two fire pits and finally, to the amazing river views, our short trip could not have been more amazing!

We are always looking for our new go to getaway cabin within two hours of DC and I think we finally found it!

Thanks so much Derek!

Love It Here!

  • 5 of 5

We try and visit Walden twice a year (April and November) to get away from the DC for a few days and love it every time!! The cabin is lovely, clean, has just what you need to relax, and is just a quick drive from the city. Our greyhound loves to run in the field and we all enjoy reading and relaxing by the river. The cabin has a great view of the sunrise/set and if you sit on the porch or use the hot tub around dusk you can watch deer in the field (can't beat that!). Derek is incredibly helpful when booking the cabin and if you have any questions during your stay. We are thrilled to have found such a great vacation space and look forward to going back in the spring!
