Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-10)

The Norton House sits right on the Lake with a breathtaking view of the Big Niangua arm and features hardwood floors and a newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops, new flat screen televisions and free wi-fi. There are 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths plus two additional queen roll-out sofas. All 3 bedrooms have queen beds.

Enjoy Sugarloaf Vineyards picnic grounds and kayaking, relax on the patio and watch the boating activity, grill your supper or eat out, then let the sound of nature lull you to sleep at night.

The Norton House is located at the Sugarloaf Vineyards west of Camdenton right where the Big Niangua tributary changes from a river to the Lake of the Ozarks. You'll be 'lured' to the Lake where the fishing is amazing for catfish, bass, crappie and walleye. Or play golf at either of two courses, Lake Valley Country club or Old Kinderhook (a Tom Weiskoph signature course).

One of the best features of this property and its sister rental, The Chardonel House, is the easy access to the Lake of the Ozarks. Nestled within the vines of the Sugarloaf Vineyard property you can walk to the Lake shore and enjoy the picnic grounds, fishing, or kayaking activities. You have free access to 2 kayaks, singles or tandems for the length of your stay and can pack a nice picnic lunch and your favorite beverages to enjoy while leisurely paddling the Niangua.

No matter what your perception of a perfect vacation is, you won't be disappointed with the relaxation and serene feeling you will have when you leave this refreshing property!

About Barb Morris

Owners are Ward & Barb Morris who moved to the Lake in 1985 and raised our 3 children in one of the most beautiful locales in the U.S.! Barb owned and operated several Lake area restaurants over the past 27 years and enjoys the fine art of cooking and especially, pairing food with wine! Ward takes weekend breaks from his Computer Consulting career to tend to over 1000 grapevines on the property and looks forward each fall to harvest time.

Barb Morris purchased this house in 2000

Why Barb Morris chose Lake of the Ozarks

This property is adjacent to Ward & Barb's home and was purchased to expand the vineyard and now, which opened in May of 2013, the Sugarloaf Vineyard Tasting bar with food pairings, occasional music and great friends! Our motto has always been, 'come to our place and we'll treat you like family'!

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the quiet of the Lake and especially the Niangua Arm tributary with it's amazing wildlife. During the month February you can often spot as many as 700 great white Pelicans feeding on Lake fish for as long as 2 weeks as they migrate. This actually inspired the name of one of Sugarloaf Vineyards wines; the White Pelican, a dry white Chardonel. Other birdlife includes the great bald eagle, blue herons, egrets, seagulls, hawks, owls and host of other. In March, you can spot beautiful red foxes siring their new pups and of course, several deer like to walk through the vineyard and eat Ward's grapes (to his chagrin)! It's a great family setting for reunions or to get away from the city.

Comfortable Home in Peaceful Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay on the Sugarloaf Vineyard, first time at the Norton house since we came with the whole family. House was super comfortable with plenty of room & bathrooms for everyone. So many attractions close by but we noticed we kept wanting to come back to the house because there is so much to do on the premises. Kayaking, paddleboating, swimming, fishing, campfire, grilling or walking up to the restaurant for some wine, excellent pizza or BBQ & the smoked trout was amazing. We love this place the owners are very attentive and friendly. Will definitely return!

Norton House- Scenic, relaxed, well maintained and close to all watersports.

  • 5 of 5

Family of 5 with two older boys and 12 year old daughter. Older boys had the basement 'man cave' with the foosball, own TV and access to outdoor fire pit. Daughter was far enough away to have peace and quiet for book reading. In four nights, was able to have several great cook-outs with access to the 'Green Egg' grill..fantastic, movie nights, kayak days. Great views of the lake from the deck to sip morning coffee. Close to all Lake Ozark attractions. House is very well supplied. Nice to have short walking access to the restaurant/winery at night, or kayaks in the morning. The cicada symphony during the heat of the day was the only trouble, but can't stop mother nature!

Love the location, fun facilities, AND the amazing friendly owners!

  • 5 of 5

Love the 3 bedroom Norton house at the winery. We love to be able to just walk up the hill for some wine and some great food on a whim. They even have games on the tables, and on some nights, live music, too. The dock at the park-like setting at the water is really fun, too. We loved hanging out there. Ward and Barb (the owners), and all of the people at the winery, especially Nancy behind the bar, are so friendly, welcoming, and kind...they make us always feel like family, so naturally, we keep returning every year! Love, love, love this place!! We are 6 golfing ladies and this location is right down the road from the Lake Valley Golf Club, and really close to Old Kinderhook, too, so it's perfect!

Very pretty, secluded retreat in the middle of a vineyard!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Norton House on the property. 3 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath was plenty of room for my parents, my husband and myself and 2 teenagers. The boys had the downstairs to themselves! The bathrooms and kitchen are nicely updated. We wanted to take our shower home with us:)

Barb and Ward, the owners were on property. We saw them several times, and they were always so kind and helpful.

We ate dinner at the restaurant (open Thurs-Sunday) and everything was delicious! 3 of us did the wine tasting. 5, 2oz pours and a souvenir wine glass for $7 (I think that is a great deal) We then bought two bottles of wine, also very reasonable and delicious!

We took advantage of the use of 2 kayaks several times and my kids loved fishing off of the bank.

The property is pretty hilly, so you will get your exercise or use your car to go down to use the kayaks.

The vineyard is conveniently located near HaHaTonka and Ozarks State Parks.

Such a nice and relaxing stay! Thank you Barb and Ward for sharing the Sugarloaf Vineyard with us!

Great Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

This house was as advertised, clean and quiet. We had a great time with all the lake options, campfire every night and the winery with great staff and food. We would love to be able to come back and stay again.

Beautiful property... great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Immediately after pulling into the winery, we were excited... grape vines and hill sides all around. The house is beautiful, well decorated and has plenty of amenities (all the pots, pans, utensils, dishes, blankets, grilling equipment, movies, games, magazines, etc...). We had a full house at 6 adults and 4 kids. The basement (like a "mother-in-law" suite) housed my wife and I and our 3 kids comfortably.... the pull out mattress wasn't all that comfortable, but just fine for resilient kiddos without the back problems us older folks have. The back porch view was great and had four very nice Adirondack chairs that paired nicely with some good scotch or a nice glass of wine... and on that note, you couldn't ask for nicer folks working the wine bar just a short 2 minute walk up the hill... the wine was great (coming from a beer and irish whiskey guy). There's a "Big Green Egg" and a Weber charcoal grill that are good to go and a fire pit tucked nicely on the side of the house at the basement entrance. The kayaks, paddleboats and swimming were great for the kids and our dogs. I even caught some fish sitting next to the kayak launch. The young man working the kayak launch was very pleasant and courteous. Our only misstep was self induced food poisoning from some bad watermelon. We'll be back again if they'll have us!
