3-Bedroom, 2 Bath Condo -- Perfect for Your Family(s)
Situated in a scenic location at just over 10,000ft, just a short walk from the Kachina ski lift and Phoenix lodge. Built in 2007, it is one of the newest accommodations in Taos Ski Valley. It has incredible views of the backside of the ski valley, Kachina Peak, and the surrounding Sangre de Cristo mountains. Thanks to it's position in the valley, the sunrise and sunset dramatically illuminates the peaks from the front porch and out the floor-to-ceiling windows. Wildlife abounds – including bighorn sheep, elk and bald eagles.
This property is spacious, comfortable, and has everything you need for a great vacation. Downstairs, each of the two bedrooms has its own bathroom and is equipped with a king bed and Euro-topped mattress. Upstairs, you'll find a large loft with four comfortable beds (two twin and two full – kids can double-up on the fulls), a TV for DVDs, and dozens of movies and board games- it's perfect for the kids or young adults.
Heated floors take the edge off the brisk mountain temperatures, and two-story floor-to-ceiling windows frame the spectacular views. The kitchen is open, well equipped, and has plenty of counter space for cooking big meals for the larger groups that fill our condo.
You will also find plenty of storage for your outdoor gear, as well as a full-size washer and dryer.
If you don't feel like cooking, you're in luck! The highly-acclaimed Bavarian Restaurant is our neighbor. You will find delicious homemade German meals and the finest imported beers served in a beautiful and rustic Bavarian lodge. No need to drive, it's just down the trail!
In the summer, the location is a perfect base for all your outdoor adventures. Adjacent trails lead into protected Wilderness Areas and onto the picturesque Williams Lake. Towering above the condo is Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico, and a great place to hike. We also neighbor 'Northside', a collection of mountain bike and hiking trails for all skill levels.
During the winter, a short 5 minute walk takes you to the base of the Kachina lift, where you can skip the crowds by putting on your skis or snowboard starting your day on the fresh backside snow! No driving, no parking! The easy access to and from the condo means you can have a hot lunch at home, or watch your family and friends ski the Kachina bowl and trails from the balcony. (Note – if you have very young children who are not yet skiing, this location requires a drive down to the ski school and may not be for you.)
Roads are well maintained in the summer and well plowed in the winter. However – we are at altitude in a heavy snow belt - a vehicle with either a 4x4 or AWD system is required from November through April (chains are an alternative). If you are flying-in, a 4WD vehicle can be reserved at most NM car rental agencies.

We have just begun to rent our home (March of ’13), so you might check the reviews of some of our Wheeler Peak neighbors for reference (VRBO 408479, 359892, and 441170). These are all great places and great people to rent from if you need some alternatives.

Perfect as always, thank you for the new pots and pans the closet was full of cleaning supplies and toiletries, making reservations now for next year. Appreciate letting us stay in your lovely condo. Enjoyed it :)
Spacious in a great location
Our family of four spent a long weekend here in October, as the leaves were changing and just before the summer scenic chairlift service wound down. We took several great hikes in the area, enjoyed sublime weather and views of the Milky Way from the porch, and cooked all of our meals in the kitchen after stocking up at Smith's in Taos before heading up the mountain.
The host, John, was very responsive and called to discuss a question we had before arriving. He was gracious and accommodating, and gave us some useful tips about the area.
The wildlife was nice. We saw deer every day, and lots of chipmunks and birds. It's also bear and cougar country, so we were on the lookout, but with small children were not disappointed to miss out on them!
The condo has an assortment of board games, which was nice in the late afternoons between hiking and dinner. The washer and dryer were handy, and detergent was supplied. One note: the not-master bathroom's shower may be plumbed backwards, but once you figure out where you should point the handle, it's a good shower! The beds were comfortable, which is great since it can be hit-or-miss with rentals!
We would stay here again.
Beautiful view of the slopes
Loved the location. It was just a short distance to the lift. The condo was clean and equipped with everything we needed. It would have been nice to have TV or more options of movies. Since the slopes close at 4:00 pm, there isn't much to do after supper. Some board games but not a variety for kids. But overall, the stay was great!!
Awesome place to stay
Excellent accommodation. Well stocked, great location, clean, comfortable and spectacular views. Nice "warm up " walk to the lifts. I was well informed about the resort and what to expect. As a result we were well prepared and had an amazing time. We appreciated the condo being stock with simple things like paper towels, dish and laundry soap, and coffee filters. It may sound trivial but those little things demonstrated the owners had their guests in mind. Highly recommend to anyone who plans to ski Taos. We will be back.
ski trip Taos 2017
The condo is beautiful. Very open with lots of room.
We were disappointed in how far the "walk to the slopes"ended being. I would stay closer to the villiage next time.
We greatly appreciate your business -- Very glad to hear your family had a great time and the condo met all of your needs. I'm sorry that the walk to the chair caused your group difficulties. As described in the listing, it does clearly take 7 minutes to walk to Chair #4. If this presented problems, I hope you realized you had the option of shuttling your skiers the 200 yards and parking right next to Chair #4. Its all pretty painless and casual on the back-side without the crowds (unlike the parking situation down below).
You do have the option of staying in the base Village and having a 0-2 minute walk to Chair #1. The equivalent accommodation is available at The Blake, Alpine Village Suites, The Edelweiss, and The Snakedance (all are great places that I would recommend for you). It should also be noted that we are less than half the price of the equivalent unit at these establishments.
You are the first review that has not given us 5 stars in the 5 years that we have been renting out our home -- please understand that I go to great lengths to represent both the condo and its proximity to the lift with accuracy and integrity.
Great family fun!
We rented 2 condos from John and Eileen (404 and406) for our large family group. The size was great! We could watch the slopes and loved the views. The stove has an oven that takes a while to heat up but the rest was perfect! Could sled right there with the littles. We dropped off and picked up at the Bavarian as the walk is a bit much in ski boots. Would rent again!
Frisbee Golf, Mountaineering, Camping, Backpacking, Trail Running, Relaxing....you get the picture. Summer or winter there is no need to start a car once you arrive. Surrounded by nature on all sides with trailheads, wilderness areas, and ski lifts just out the front door.
