About John Stoltzfus
Ruthie was born in the Village of Intercourse. Her parents were both brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish church when she was two years old and joined a Mennonite church. Her family spoke Pennsylvania Dutch and her parents continued to speak 'Dutch' to each other throughout their life. Grandparents and some extended family members remained Amish and therefore, she was very comfortable in their homes and grew up understanding their customs. John was also brought up Amish in a family of nine, his dad was a farmer on a 140 acre dairy farm. John left the Amish church at age 21 and joined the same Mennonite church that Ruthie attended. We now attend Keystone Evangelical Free Church. We have two children and five beautiful grandchildren.
John Stoltzfus purchased this House in 2006
Why John Stoltzfus chose Gordonville
We bought this property to provide our guests with a clean, cozy 'home away from home.' Both homes have hand painted murals on the walls. The Vacation House offers a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room with a washer and dryer, large dining room, large living room with a sofa bed and cable TV, Smart flat screen TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. Two bedrooms [both with a queen and single bed], one full bath and a powder room in the front bedroom and a pack and play. It also has a flag stone porch to sit and watch the horse and buggies go by. The Cottage [Dawdi Haus] is a great room with two queen beds and a full bathroom with a shower, sitting area with table and chairs, sofa bed, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster oven, cable TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. It has a wonderful porch with a swing that is perfect for relaxing and watching the horse and buggies go by. For more Cottage information and calendar go to the Amish Guest House Cottage link Both facilities are air conditioned and provide telephones with free local calls, free WIFI and a light continental breakfast.
What makes this House unique
What we hear a lot from our guests is their love of seeing and hearing the Amish horse and buggies going by as they sit on the porch. We have a double glider in the back yard to relax on and also flower gardens. There is a working old fashioned hand pump that the children enjoy playing with and that adults also enjoy as it brings back memories from their past. We have a fireplace in the back yard that you can charcoal grill on.

The Guest House was charming, immaculately clean, and thoughtfully arranged. We loved our stay.
John and Ruthie put a great deal of care and effort into making people feel like welcomed guests. They think of everything: providing food for breakfast, extra soap and towels, detailed instructions, suggestions for activities, the list just keeps going on. My son-in-law was charmed by the working outdoor water pump, the fire pit, and the swing. My daughters were charmed with the family histories which John and Ruthie shared. The Guest House is close enough to activities to be really convenient but just far enough away to avoid the stress of the touristy congested bustle. This was a perfect place for our family to get together for some quality together time. My son-in-law asked when we can go again. A big thank you to John and Ruthie from our entire family.
Fantastic place to stay
If you are looking for a great place to stay, this is it! You are close to all the shopping and dining in Intercourse, PA. You are also close to the outlets which was fantastic since most of Intercourse is closed at 6pm.
The house is adorable! John and Ruthie have done an amazing job decorating it with items from their Amish heritage. There is a very interesting dvd of pictures of Ruthie’s family! The house also has all the conveniences of home! They have thought of everything you may need, including a hair dryer and tea kettle… things that I don’t always see in house rentals.
John and Ruthie were great hosts. John came over to meet us and told us about many of the things in the house and gave us fabulous suggestions on where to eat and visit while in the area. They also made sure we have fresh milk, coffee supplies, bread and homemade jam stocked in the kitchen. It was a great surprise since we arrived rather late in the evening and hadn’t thought about bringing breakfast supplies.
I’m looking forward to future visits to the Amish Guest House!
Beautiful house, perfect location, close to everything.
The house was spotless and beautiful. Had everything you would need. Very close to Kitchen Kettle Village and many shops. John was great to work with. Really enjoyed the fresh bread and jam!
Nostalgic step back in time!
John and Ruthie have a quaint little home in the heart of Amish county. It was a wonderful treat to be able to sit on the porch and watch the horse and buggies go by and cherish life. We met John who couldn’t be more accommodating! A stay in the Amish Guest House is one you will never forget. We are already planning our next stay next year. Thanks John and Ruthie.
