Wonderfully Relaxing Weekend Getaway
My husband and I stayed in the Sproul House at Old Camp Joy Cottages. Our intent was to get away from the city and just chill. The entire setting did just that! The cabins, the lake, the silence and the canine welcoming committee (if you so choose)! The cabins are so nice and clean. We had the opportunity to try Mary's cinnamon rolls. I encourage everyone to order some goodies from the Camp Joy web site bakery prior to your visit. Thank you Tom, Katherine and Mary for making our stay so nice! We will be back again!
Melissa and Jeff were a pleasure to host. They were kind warm and friendly. We enjoyed visiting and they left the cottage in perfect condition. Thank you!
Great place. We will definitely book again
Quiet place to relax. Great hospitality. We did some fishing and caught a few. Just catch and release , but we still had a good time. The cottage was clean and just the right size. The owner was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed.
Peace & Quiet
Sproul is a cute little cottage; very clean & perfect for a couple. I shared the cottage with my 85 year dad, and did not realize that it was a 1 bed room down stairs with 2 twin beds in a loft up stairs. A little tuff to get up & down the ladder to the loft. I left my luggage down stairs to make life easier. I also did not realize there was no internet & no TV's. This was not a problem, just did not catch those details in the description, and was a little surprised. My dad & did not bring any food with us, so we were hoping for some small hometown restaurants in Ore City. There was only one & it was closed for repairs while we were there, so that made for a few adjustments to our eating schedule. I would suggest the owners put together a small book/album with different places to eat, sights to see, etc... - since my AT&T service out there lacked connection most of the time, I had to use my dad's Verizon phone to locate places to eat and/or go. I loved the album the owners put together of the dogs & cats they rescue. It made me want to go meet the dogs, and get to know them a little better, which I did & totally enjoyed loving on them. My dogs would be in heaven out there too. Unfortunately, this weekend was chilly, so we did not take advantage of the lake, but would love to give it another shot :~) Over all, a successful weekend with my dad; he really enjoyed himself.
Fantastic! Above and beyond. Will go again.
Great property, great location! This is a cosy cottage with a great view of the Lake. The property is almost brand new and maintained in great condition. We stayed here only for 1 night over the weekend, and left wishing we ought to have stayed more. Tom was a great host - simply no words to describe. He helped our group out in many ways - absolutely above and beyond. We have already recommended this cottage to many of our friends, and definitely plan to go back there many times. The Lake itself is very beautiful, with gorgeous foliage where you go. Folks from DFW looking for a quick getaway, Lake O the Pines is the place to go and Camp Joy is the place to stay!
We were very pleased with our quite cottage.
Our stay was very peaceful and Tom was very accommodating.
My family's most amazing vacation!!
Our family had the most amazing vacation in this place. Tom and his wife were so hospital and they took their time to make sure that we felt at home and comfortable in the cabin. This is a good place to get away and reconnect with the family. We also met new friends in this place. The place is so peaceful and the view is so amazing overlooking the lake from the cabin. We stayed here for 4 nights and wanted to stay longer. We are definitely planning to come back here again.
We are fairly rural and quiet - one grocery store in town and a few restaurants 5 minutes away - but within 20 minutes drive have most anything is available.
