Why Melissa Smith chose Northern Michigan

The Bluestone Cottage gives us a chance to be just one block from the most hidden and desirable beach in Leelanau and just a short walk along the lakefront back streets to Leland, the most charming town up north and one of 'America's Best 8 Lake Towns.'

What makes this cottage unique

We love the generous size of all the 4 bedrooms, the classic front porch, private back deck and 3-season screen porch for early mornings and we love being in-town Leland.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time in Leland. Explored Leland, Suttons Bay and took a lot of different roads around. It truly is a beautiful place. Tried a couple of restaurants and had great food. Your house is really nice. We were very comfortable, all slept really good. Thank you for opening up your home to us.

My college roommates and I were attending a wedding in Leland and stayed at the Bluestone Cottage. Everything about it was wonderful! The beds are comfortable, the towels are cozy, and the setting is gorgeous. Melissa was wonderful to work with and everything went so smoothly. I would highly recommend staying at Bluestone Cottage!

Loved the Bluestone Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for a long weekend. We had a great time as the cottage is so convenient to everything. Golfing, restaurants, shopping, beaches (1 within walking distance).

We loved Fishtown on the marina and the quaint little shops downtown. Had an excellent dinner at The Cove restaurant.

The house was very nice. Enjoyed wine and conversation on the huge front porch and the enclosed back porch. Large deck for entertaining. Loved the bed as it was extremely comfortable. The house was very nice and spacious. All the luxuries of home but in a wonderful setting.

I highly recommend the Bluestone Cottage.

Excellent stay Up North at Bluestone Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had two families for the week at Bluestone Cottage with a total of 12 people. There was plenty of space for both families and the house was very clean and bright. The beds were very comfortable particularly the king bed upstairs which is part of a two room suite with a kitchenette. The common areas are great for family get togethers and BBQ. Easy walk to town for coffee, pastries and a quick tour of Fishtown. The owner answered any questions we had and had fun suggestions on things to do in the area. I highly recommend the Bluestone for an easy and fun vacation Up North.

Bluestone Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had two families staying at the Bluestone with a total of 8 people. We found the house to be very comfortable with plenty of room for all. The beds were all very comfortable, and we particularly enjoyed the screened porch off one of the bedrooms. The house was clean and well maintained. The owner, Melissa, responded promptly to any questions we had and checked in via e-mail during our stay with recommendations for restaurants and sights to see. We really appreciated that. Don't miss Sutton's Bay, Sleeping Bear Dunes and beaches, and Knot a Bar restaurant in Omena (huge servings...delicious fries......try the carrot cake!)

My only suggestion to improve this rental would be updating the kitchenware. There were lots of dishes, but the pots and pans and cooking tools were worn. This is my suggestion for most any vacation rental we've stayed in. We rent a vacation house so we can come "home" at the end of a day of fun and share a family meal. It is a savings to have the option of cooking in rather than dining out for the entire stay. Decent cookware would be a real treat.

In all, it was a great week in a very nice rental home.

A Fantastic Gateway to Leland!

  • 5 of 5

The charming Bluestone Cottage was conveniently located and graciously accommodated a family of 6 and a family of 4 with ease. Although located on the main street into Leland, the house was quiet throughout the day. Kitchen was well stocked and easy to use. We also had our best night's sleep in a long time on the comfortable mattress in our bedroom! As first time visitors to this part of Michigan, we appreciated the safe, quiet walk into Leland and all that the neighboring areas had to offer. We would definitely return!
