About Melissa Smith

Our family of four lives in Grand Rapids and we escape to Leelanau County every chance we get! We love walking the beaches with our Golden Retriever, hiking and geocaching throughout the county, waterskiing and tubing on pristine Lake Leelanau, and exploring new restaurants and wineries!

Melissa Smith purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Melissa Smith chose Northern Michigan

The Bluestone Cottage gives us a chance to be just one block from the most hidden and desirable beach in Leelanau and just a short walk along the lakefront back streets to Leland, the most charming town up north and one of 'America's Best 8 Lake Towns.'

What makes this cottage unique

We love the generous size of all the 4 bedrooms, the classic front porch, private back deck and 3-season screen porch for early mornings and we love being in-town Leland.

Family Easter Weekend Up North

  • 5 of 5

We have a wonderful Easter Family Weekend at the Bluestone Cottage. The cottage was just perfect for our family of 8 plus our two dogs. The cottage was exactly as pictured. There was more than enough room for everyone to gather for breakfast and Easter Dinner as well as relax or play cards in the front room. Bedrooms were comfortable. The upstairs and downstairs layout allowed for plenty of room and privacy when needed for all.

We especially liked the location of the cottage - walking distance to the Leland Market, Fishtown (loved the Village Cheese Shanty for lunch) and the beach area (sunset was breathtakingly beautiful), a short drive to Sutton's Bay for dinner at Martha's, with winery stops and a distillery stop along the road between both villages.

We had a fun time at 45 North - wine tasting and multiple games of bocce kept everyone entertained. We even made the dune climb at Sleeping Bear.

We hated to leave on Monday, wishing we had another day to explore.

Melissa, thank you again for making the check-in and out process easy. Your recommendations were a huge help in making sure all family members found fun things to do and explore. So much more to see and do Up North, we will surely be back to stay at the Bluestone Cottage or one of your other properties.

Thank you again.

This home has everything! Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, all the plates, utensils and cookware you could ever need and a wonderful, responsive host. What more could we ask? Our group of Indigenous Grandmothers love this home.

Lovely place in Leland!

  • 4 of 5

If you have 10 people gathering this place has got the room & has the amenities to accommodate you. Location is just a little distance to the heart of Leland. We had a heating issue our first night during our NYE weekend, but the owner had a worker in to fix it that night & compensated for our cold first evening. We have a good story to tell now too.

Thank you Melissa Smith for being a great communicator throughout the rental process too! From the euchre group in Clarkston!

Thanksgiving up north

  • 5 of 5

The Bluestone Cottage was a perfect spot to stay while we were up in Leland for Thanksgiving. Plenty of comfortable beds, games for the family, close to town and to our daughters house. Melissa provided us with excellent opening and closing information which helped as I always like to leave the place like we found it...nice and clean! I would definitely rent Bluestone Cottage again when we need extra space, and hopefully in warmer weather so I can enjoy a cup of coffee on the screened porch. Thanks Melissa!

Everything was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the home for a "Wine Tour Weekend With Friends" and what a lovely experience. Melissa was easily accessible for questions and gave wonderful recommendations for the area. The house was LOVELY! Immaculately clean and modern. Too many wonderful amenities to list, but you will not be disappointed in this lovely home. Melissa went out of her way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. We had 4 couples in the house and we had plenty of room. I will certainly book with Melissa again. Thank you for a wonderful rental experience!
