We would recommend this holiday home to anyone! The service was excellent both from Agni Travel and Spiros and his famliy.
We stayed for ten days at the villa and had an excellent time - very well specified, clean, great setting with the mountains behind and the sea ahead.
The villa was cleaned twice a week and had a welcome pack of food which was thoughtful. Ammenities are close at hand in terms of 3 mini supermarkets and local tavernas.
Spiros' taverna at the end of the road next to the beach is great value, tasty food with home style service.
Some good small sandy / shale beaches are within walking distance and a very short drive to Frangokastello's Venetian castle and harbour.
Happy to recommend to others for a great stay.
With regards to the villa itself it was set in a stunning setting-swimming in the pool with the backdrop of the mountains was incredible. It was a lovely villa with every mod con available including air conditioning (a blessing) and very clean. A full maid service changing beds emptying bins and general cleaning every 2nd day lovely outside seating area (look out for the geckos on the walls at night with the lights switched on very amusing to watch) and the surrounds of the villa are immaculate with a gardener most days, the rear of the property grows olives, vegatables and fruit all used in the restaurant. The general area of Frangocastello-a lovely quiet area very safe, you would hardly need to lock your cars or doors, the restaurants are of excellent quality, all family owned and staffed. The beaches are beautifully clean and litter is non-existent. The sea is wonderfully warm and crystal clear, excellent for snorkling or swimming with a vaast array of fish and shells. Local supermarkets are excellent and very cheap (we found them cheaper than Carrefour in Chania) and stock a wonderful range of local meats and great fresh fruit (stick to local wine its so cheap and excellent quality). Spiros Taverna- (called Vatalos), what can I say its the people that make any holiday and boy did Spiros (your host and villa owner) deliver, nothing was too much trouble, anything you wanted they would go out of their way to accomodate.
Spiros is a passionate man and believes deeply in value and quality of service and it shows. The food quality is excellent - locally sourced meats, vegetables and fruit all incredibly fresh and all home cooked by his talented mother or Spiros himself and generous to a fault - it felt almost embarrassing to give them so little money for such wonderful meals and quality of service (an average of 30 euros for a three course dinner including wine, and we didn't skimp on the wine). To sum up the experience, I would have to say it was one of the most memorable and relaxing holidays we have ever taken, and spending time with such wonderful, generous, friendly and passionate people is something everyone should try - its good for the soul. Thank you Spiros, Theo and family.
The village of Frangokastello is named after the ruins of the fortified castle that still stands on the coastline. The village itself is strung out along the flat fine sandy beaches and the plain beneath a mountain backdrop.
Frangokastello is a quiet and unspoilt area set beside the sea, there are several tavernas and some supermarkets selling nearly everything that you might need, we consider this place to be a haven for small or large families and would also suit a large group of friends holidaying together. The Imbros Gorge, is close to Frangokastello, and is the second most popular gorge on Crete after Samaria for walkers. The walk is not too strenuous and can be completed in 2 or 3 hours. The scenery is beautiful and the relative ease of the hike makes it an ideal walk even for families with children. A very short drive brings you to the delightful fishing village of Hora Sfakion, famous for its whitewashed houses, the caves and churches.
