|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Master bedroom with new king bed, and bath. 2nd bedroom has twin beds, and bath. Washer, dryer, kitchen utensils, sheets, towels. Ground floor, walk from lanai to pool about 25 steps. Poipu beach is a 15 minute walk away, or 3 minute drive. Near Hyatt Resort and Poipu Bay golf course. Grocery shopping in nearby Koloa, also many great restaraunts nearby. There is a pool about 50 steps from our nearly retiled lanai, and a tennis court on site.
My folks bought this in 1988. They used to go from Washington state every winter for 2 or 3 months after my dad retired. They are both gone now, so my sister and I are keeping the place in the family, so our kids and grandkids can enjoy it as we have.
Bill Kuzmer purchased this condo in 1988
Kauai is the least crowded of the major Hawaiian islands. We love the slow pace. The south side of Kauai is the driest part of the island. World famous Poipu Beach is about a 3 minute drive, or 15 minute walk away. Koloa town is a 5 minute drive away. There are small grocery stores, a pharmacy, various shops, and great little resturants. The Hyatt Resort is a 15 minute walk away.
My mom used to say how she loved the 'soft air', a very accurate description of the pleasant evenings sipping a beverage of choice, as the sun sets in the ocean. Many people live here full time, so it's way more like a 'home' than just a motel room. All units are individually owned, so they are all a bit different. Ours is rated an 'A' unit by Castle Resorts, which is the highest rating possible. 'B', and 'C' units may have few, if any upgrades. Friendly staff can help with just about anything.
My wife and I stayed for a week and found the location to be superb. Evelyn (Manager) gave us basic directions for whatever we needed. Walking to Poipu Beach and Bernecke's was just a quiet stroll away. Sitting on the patio and listening to the waves pound against the rocks and watching the spray while enjoying our morning coffee and afternoon libation was such a pleasant contrast from our Texas home. Kauai was the only island we hadn't visited and we'd return again in a minute. On our return we'd againr stay at this condo. It was delightful.
The condo was great for our family vacation. We have 2 teenagers and we all loved the location and layout of the condo. Kitchen is fully equipped with the needs of tourists considered (i.e. ice packs in freezer, coolers to pack with drinks and snacks for a beach outing, etc.) Bedrooms are large and the bed in the master bedroom is so comfortable. We saw beautiful sunsets and sunrises from the property as well as watching a pod of spinner dolphins swim by! Would return to this place in a heartbeat!
We came for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The condo was clean and the views are spectacular. The grilling area is kept clean and we cooked multiple nights out there. The condo was equipped with all your beach amenities and cooking utensils. We hope to be back in the near future. Thanks again for an unforgettable time.
When we came into the condo I was in awe. It was way bigger and more beautiful than the pictures show. The condo was clean and homey. The king size bed was amazing! I don't know the last time I slept so well, all 7 nights I slept peaceful, as did my husband. We came with another couple and we all utilized the swimming pool and was mystified by the beautiful sunset view. It was a great location for a morning run and/or bike ride. I would have been happy just staying on the South Shore and nothing more, however the crew I was with was a bit more adventurous so we took advantage of the beautiful island and went tubing down the "ditch" and took a Stand up Paddle (SUP) jungle tour which was amazing. Being from Eugene we are spoiled with the many delicious microbrews and thought we should try out the one brewery on Kauai. We went to "Truck Stop Thursday" at the Kauai Beer Company, great atmosphere, great truck food and the beer wasn't too bad either. Hawaiian Ice is amazing if you haven't ever tried it its a must and you can get it everywhere on the island. We walked to Poipu Beach a couple of times (about .65 of a mile from the condo) and snorkeled and bathed in the sun. Amazing trip and cannot wait to come back.
We had a great stay at this Makahuena condo. There were 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) and the condo worked out great. Two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a washer/dryer as well as just about anything else you might need for your stay. It was July when we stayed and it was warm but the ceiling fans and an extra box fan kept the air flowing. The grounds are beautiful and the pool was nice.
The location of the unit in the complex was also good. Not too far from the parking lot. There is a ramp and some stairs down to the unit but not too bad. Right outside is the pool, very close. Ground floor lets you walk right out to the pool and you can still see ocean from the lanai area. The pictures are accurate as well. When we got there, I felt like knew where we were, no surprises.
Location in town is good too. 8-10 mins gets you to Brennecke beach, another 2 mins to Poipu Beach park. Keep walking in this direction for more beaches and surf spots as well. The walk from the condo to the beach does have a couple of gaps in the sidewalk. Not a big deal for us, just FYI. Walk the other direction 10-15 mins to get to the Hyatt. You can walk the road or on the path along the shore that starts right from the side parking lot of the complex.
Poipu is the place to stay. Central location allows you to Hanalei and the Nepali coast as well as Waimea Canyon as easy day trips. Things you should do- hike on both ends of the island. Hike the Nepali coast as far as you wish, 2 miles in gets you to a spectacular beach with many views along the way. Hike from the top of Waimea Canyon. Hike along the ridge for spectacular views of the ocean 4000 ft down and the mists of the Alakai Swamp on the other side. Also be sure to go to the Kalaheo Coffee House Cafe, Hit the botanical garden, take a surf lesson, eat at Bubba Burger, find a bon-dance to go to, visit to the coffee plantation. The condo is nice but spend your time out and about exploring. You have the rest of you life to sit in a condo somewhere.
Finally, I will say that the owners were very accommodating with our arrival and departure schedule. We arrived a bit late (after hours) and we got in no problem. We also left late and we were able to check out late as well. This allowed us to make the most of our last day there so thanks again. I would not hesitate to stay here again. We also have friends on the island and recommended this unit to any of their friends coming to town as well.
On the southernmost part of the island of Kauai, enjoy the rare opportunity to view both sunrise and sunset. In the winter months watch the spouting whales go by. Explore the beautiful sands of Keoniloa Bay and Shipwreck beach just to the east, Poipu beach and Brennecke's just to the west. This oceanfront all suite property consists of beautifully furnished condos. There is a swimming pool hydro spa, tennis court and barbeque area. Visit the Fern Frotta, Spouting Horn, and the beaches of 'Blue Hawaii'. 15 minute walk to Poipu Bay Golf Course, where the 'Grand Slam' tournament was played for several years.
My sister and I own this particular unit. It is on the ground floor, only steps from the swimming pool. There are two full baths with walk in showers with rails in both. The master bedroom has a king bed, the 2nd has twins. This has been a family home for over 20 years. Waher, dryer, dishes, micro, pots and pans, utensils, towels, sheets. A quiet place to just put up the feet and RELAX.
