About Ron & Susan Oleson

Retired professor. We travel internationally & have two Bichon's. Love to walk on the waterfront and eat the best fresh fish at Mitch's Seafood which is located at the Sport fishing landing. Balboa Park & the Zoo are favorites; Park has the Prado Restaurant which has great happy hour drinks & food; Zoo has Albert's Tree Restaurant which many do not know about; it is breezy & has an African motif.

Ron & Susan Oleson purchased this bungalow in 1990

Why Ron & Susan Oleson chose San Diego

This one bedroom is centrally located to major attractions in San Diego. Closeness of Convention Center, downtown, Gaslamp, and Balboa Park & Zoo is a major draw for tourists. We live close by to this property so we know first hand how convenient it is.

What makes this bungalow unique

The closeness to the airport makes it easy for travel days. The bus line on the corner insures easy access to great restaurants in the Gaslamp. Taxi fares are not expensive if you don't have a car. Closeness to freeways insures quick access to beaches, whether it be Mission, La Jolla or Del Mar or across the bay to Coronado.

Cozy and convenient

  • 5 of 5

This clean, cozy, one bedroom is just a $6 Uber ride or 35 minute walk to the Convention Center. This small, but well appointed apartment is in a residential neighborhood with convenient highway access. There is a community patio, gas grill and laundry facilities.

Cosy

  • 4 of 5

The 1 bedroom, one bath cottage is very cosy, clean and safe. The bed is comfortable and the area is very quiet. The bathroom is especially frugal with regard to space. The shower is too narrow to bend over and there are no shelves in the shower for things like shampoo and soap. The sink has no space to put anything, so it was a challenge to use all of my magic potions and lotions. The off street parking is tight, but manageable. The location (close to the zoo and 1.5 miles to the Convention Center) was very convenient. Restaurants in the area were quite good. Thanks.

2 fine nights, one entire night without power

  • 2 of 5

Yes the house is tiny, that was not our issue. In fact, I think the house is laid out well. Location is close enough to downtown, though I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable walking alone or at night. There is a very nice park a few blocks away. Dishes were dirty and greasy. Smoke alarm in a neighboring unit went off for at least a couple of hours before we could finally get a hold of someone to report it to. Our final night there, the power went out. Upon calling the owners, it was a scheduled power outage that they were informed of, 8pm-6am that no one mentioned to us when we inquired about renting. We would have never rented it had we known- I guess they figured that and were just trying to make a buck. Imagine being in the middle of moving, trying to re-pack suitcases, get paper work in order and get yourselves and two dogs ready to go to the airport with no power and no flashlight in the house. Not to mention, it was still out when we left for the airport at 6:30am. Absolutely unacceptable. Overall, disappointed!

Nice & cozy

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place to use as a "home base" while vacationing in San Diego. Perfect for a couple - Many more than two people would feel crowded, though. The kitchen was stocked nicely with dishes and cooking utensils - We were in want of nothing!!

Good but what I expected.

  • 4 of 5

Cottage is cozy but bathroom and parking are not ideal. Bathroom was very tight!!! We had to park our car on next street over. Nice and safe neighborhood!
