About Ron & Susan Oleson

Retired professor. We travel internationally & have two Bichon's. Love to walk on the waterfront and eat the best fresh fish at Mitch's Seafood which is located at the Sport fishing landing. Balboa Park & the Zoo are favorites; Park has the Prado Restaurant which has great happy hour drinks & food; Zoo has Albert's Tree Restaurant which many do not know about; it is breezy & has an African motif.

Ron & Susan Oleson purchased this bungalow in 1990

Why Ron & Susan Oleson chose San Diego

This one bedroom is centrally located to major attractions in San Diego. Closeness of Convention Center, downtown, Gaslamp, and Balboa Park & Zoo is a major draw for tourists. We live close by to this property so we know first hand how convenient it is.

What makes this bungalow unique

The closeness to the airport makes it easy for travel days. The bus line on the corner insures easy access to great restaurants in the Gaslamp. Taxi fares are not expensive if you don't have a car. Closeness to freeways insures quick access to beaches, whether it be Mission, La Jolla or Del Mar or across the bay to Coronado.

Nice little stand alone cottage! Had everything a guest needs for a short stay.

  • 4 of 5

Kitchen, living room and bedroom were great, but the bathroom was very very small and the shower could definitely use a hanging tray for shampoo and soap. Clean and comfortable. I would stay there again!

Awful experience!

  • 1 of 5

First, I should start out by saying this trip was my wife's anniversary gift. We came to San Diego to watch a show and relax for a couple days.

It started off bad when I didn't get anything from

HomeAway on instructions for how to gain access. Luckily the owner emailed me in time so we weren't stranded.

The pictures present a nice enough place, but it is actually a converted 1 car garage. The stay was uncomfortable. We felt grossed out sitting anywhere. The linens were really old and had stains on them, the dishes were greasy with fingerprints still on them, and there was a pubic hair on the toilet seat.

We booked 2 days but decided to leave a day early to avoid this place.

Nice place but we had some issues

  • 2 of 5

Upon arrival to the unit my family and I were unfortunately locked out of the unit as the key code provided was incorrect... I called the number listed on the app as a point of contact and it was sent to voicemail. I then received a text from that number stating I was calling the wrong number and was given another number to call... We then got a hold of someone and were let in. Not really the way we wanted to start our vacation, waiting outside at 8:30pm with two kids and a baby until we finally got through to someone was no fun. The place itself was clean and stocked with what we needed. But on our first night the toilet clogged and overflowed... we had to clean this up with towels in the middle of the night. My recommendation would be to make sure all of the contact info and key access are correct prior to your arrival!

Small but tidy.

  • 4 of 5

Nice clean cottage. Main drawback was the minuscule bathroom. Somewhat difficult to locate the property as there did not seem to be any house numbers on this or any of the other properties on the street. #2 bus stop was only a block away. This bus can take you one mile down to the gas lamp area. From there it was about a one mile walk to the convention center. There were plenty of restaurants and markets close by to the cottage.

Decent place with some minor concerns

  • 3 of 5

The property is in a safe area, well furnished and with all the needed stuff. It's close to convention center but not 3mins even with car. It's like 10mins which is still not bad until you are here for a conference and wanted to walk to the place. My other concern was the bed which needs replacement. Property is divided into different units and the group at the adjoining unit was at their loud volumes until 3am or so.

Small but nice

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was tiny, and the bathroom even tinier, but the appointments were obviously thought through with care. Everything was clean and cared for and we appreciated our private little patio in back.

Thank you for the place to stay! We had a great time.
