A River Runs By It! This lovely property is located directly on the upper river bank, offering gorgeous views and the gentle sounds of the Pine River. A pretty hiking trail climbs gently to an outlook for views of Vallecito Lake and the mountains. Boating, bike riding, hiking and barbequing from the deck are just a few of the wonderful activities that can be enjoyed from your private paradise in the pines. If you enjoy fishing, some of the best fly fishing in southern Colorado is just a 5-10 walk from your front door to your own private fishing spot on the Pine river. You are only minutes away from Vallecito Lake and the town of Durango has some of the best river rafting and mountain biking in Colorado. Durango is only a thirty minute drive along a beautiful, winding country road, where you are bound to see elk and deer on the rolling hillsides.

This newly built guest quarters was designed for your comfort, convenience, and for the best views! The upper deck is directly off the main floor for relaxing and grilling. With all this available from your quarters; views, flowing water, hiking and hills, you may never need to get in your car! But if you do, in addition to all that Vallecito Lake and Durango offers, your retreat borders the Weminuche Wilderness, the largest in the state of Colorado. Here, you can enjoy beautiful hikes in the forest.

If you want more… Pagosa Springs is a magnificent and scenic sixty mile drive where you can soak in sulfur hot springs.

* Due to the quiet and serene nature of this property please no Harley Davidsons or guns.

About Chris Zoll

I have lived in two of the nicest places in the world! born in Hawaii moving to Durango when I was 15. I have travelled the world but Durango is still at the top of my list. I am an outdoor enthusiast (always a mountain bike on the back of my car).

Chris Zoll purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Chris Zoll chose Bayfield

I chose this property on the river bank, and built my home and the guest quarters for best views, and it turned out to be better than I could have imagined!

What makes this apartment unique

This unique 3 acre property is at the end of a private road. It's such a wonderful spot that sometimes the best way to spend the day is on the deck, in the hammock with a good book, listening to the sounds of the river.

Plus, the owner offers guided mountain biking trips for those interested in exploring some of the best trails in Colorado!

We had a great stay here. The place was clean and well stocked. Short walk to the river. About a 5 minute drive from the lake. Chris was very nice and helpful with recommendations for things to do. Beautiful area to relax and get away!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Chris is an excellent host and his hospitality was very much appreciated. Stunning views of the river and lots of space to let loose and have fun outside. The cabin overall is very nice and we'll taken care of. We've stayed here in Vallecitos before at a different cabin and it was run down and our stay wasn't as pleasant as. Thank you Chris' for hard work and letting us stay at your place!

Nice accomodations in a lovely setting.

  • 5 of 5

Not luxurious but very nice accomodations. The apartment was spacious for the two of us but holds 4. Well appointed kitchen. The grounds are in a mature Ponderosa pine forest with nearby cabin homes. The grounds overlook the Pine river which is beautiful. A bit of it can be seen from the patio. Very pet friendly. The owners were gracious and helpful but not intrusive. There is about a 1/4 mile of river available for fishing. The Pine is larger than I expected and requires chest waders and wading pole to fish. Still one cannot cross the river due to depth and current. It was running over 600 cps compared to the Animas which was just over 400 cps. I couldn't cover the river adequately due to depth, width and current. There is a lot of nearby hiking. An easy 2.7 mile hike up the Pine above Vallecito reservoir gets one to the Weminuche wilderness and good fishing. One can also take a moderate 3 mile hike up the Vallecito creek to arrive at many very nice pools for fishing. Both hikes are beautiful and the trails are good. One can also fish in the Vallecito reservoir or nearby Lemon reservoir. It is a 30 minute scenic drive to Durango where there is fishing on the Animas including a gold label area. There are 2 good nearby restaurants on Vallecito reservoir which is about a mile from the property. Very good restaurants are found in Durango. The owners gave us good tips on dining. Spectacular mountain scenery can be seen on the drive or train ride from Durango to Silverton. We loved the "Soaring" zip line adventure accessed by narrow gauge railroad from Durango.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. The river was running a bit higher this summer as we have had some good rains! It's good to hear the zip-line was worth the visit and hope to ride the train up to check it out in the future. Chris

Clean and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet, relaxing place to stay during vacation. The accommodations are very clean and well kept. The short walk down to the river is a nice morning and evening walk. There are also several nice hiking trails nearby. Durango is a pleasant 30 minute drive away.
