3 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Bath House With Lake Views
The 'Stealth Cottage' is a completely remodeled historic 97 year old cottage just across Paw Paw Lake Road from beautiful Paw Paw Lake. We have 115 feet of lake frontage right across the street. We are located on what we call 'the Westlund Ponderosa'. It is our family's complex of two cottages, one lake house, and a party barn all on 2 full acres of beautiful wooded property. We have just finished our sixth summer renting 'the Stealth Cottage'. The cottage sports 3 bedrooms with a loft. The master bedroom has a king size bed with a large dresser and flat screen TV. It has a bath with a corner shower. The washer & dryer are in this bathroom in a closet. The second bedroom still has the original ceiling and door and also has a queen size bed. The third bedroom is a walk through room to the master bedroom and has a full size bed. If you want privacy in that room the master bedroom has a door leading out to the patio. The loft is entered up a ships ladder and has 4 twin beds and a double bed. Not much headroom but a great place to crash out. We do not recommend the loft for infants and toddlers! But for school age kids to active adults it is fine. We sleep a total of 12 in beds. The living room has a double recliner loveseat and a double recliner couch. It has a round table perfect for poker with a leaf to seat 6 for dinner. We also have a 56 inch rear projection TV with full basic cable. Also included is a nice stereo w/ dvd/cd player, and a input for your ipod or personal music player. We have speakers both inside and out on the deck. The kitchen is fully equipped with a new ge microwave, whirlpool self cleaning oven, dishwasher, and fridge with a ice maker. We have settings for 24 and include a mixer, food processor, blender, electric griddle, two cast iron griddles, pizza pans, and plenty of pots and pans for the gourmet chef. We also have a maple table with 4 chairs in the kitchen. Next to the kitchen is our favorite room in the house. It is called the 'MOAB' which stands for 'The Mother of all Bars'. It is a fully equipped dry bar with a under counter beer & wine fridge and a wine rack for your local purchases. It has a handmade bar and a round bar table with 4 padded bar stools. We have spent many a night at the 'moab'. For 2014 we completely rebuilt the floor with a new laminate wood floor. Outside we have a 14' x 24' wood deck with 2 tables and comfy chairs. Down two steps is a 14'x16' patio with a picnic table, another glass table with umbrella and a stainless steel natural gas grill with a side burner and side table. We have a outdoor fireplace for your use with an initial supply of firewood. Additional firewood can be purchased for $10 per garbage can full. Head down to the lake and you will find a permanent pier with 2 lifts for our boats. You have your own slip with outer pipes jetted in for a 6 way tie up so your boat will not hit the pier when it gets choppy. We can handle up to a 30' boat. We have added second pier for fishing and swimming off of. I has a 16'x16' platform at the end. For your use we have a paddle boat and three kayaks. Also down at the lake is 'The Rocking Chair Lounge'. It is a small bar with a tilt up metal roof for security. It has a granite counter top and a raised 12'x8' platform with four southern rocking chairs. It has a small fridge and a kicking stereo with 6 speakers and two subwoofers so you can hear it clearly when you swim off the pier. Next to the 'RCL' is a large concrete patio with a table and three benches for gazing out on the lake. On the back corner of the property we have 'The Party Barn' a 24'x48' concrete floor pole building. Inside is a ping pong table, 8' pool table, foosball, darts, and bumper pool! We have a stereo w/ cd & cassette player and a large TV w/ digital adapter for over the air broadcasts. We have a 9,300 CFM industrial wall prop fan with adjustable speed Yaskawa variable frequency drive so it is well ventilated. The kayaks are stored inside. Outside we offer a regulation grass volleyball court with a line set and three sets of bean bag boards with plenty of bags. (cornhole) We have a 2000 watt lighting system for both the beanbags and volleyball court. On the far end of the property we have a area for 16 inch softball with bases and homeplate stored in the party barn. There is also room to practice your pitching wedge play. This is the ultimate Paw Paw Lake cottage!! Search 'The Stealth Cottage' on Facebook for more pictures. We encourage our guests to post their pictures on Facebook. Please note that this is our complex and my sister and I have guests up often. We enjoy sharing the complex with our renters and have played some in spirited ping pong or bumper pool so don't be offended or put off. We normally leave our renters alone near the Stealth Cottage but don't expect to have the lake or Party Barn to yourselves on weekends or holiday weeks. But during the week you usually have it too yourselves.

About Dean Westlund
I am Dean Westlund and my Wife is Rory. We live in Lockport, IL. I have been going up to Paw Paw Lake my entire life and my Father Milt was Born just a few miles away in 12 Corners just west of Coloma on Red Arrow Hwy. I am a Sales Engineer selling industrial and commercial HVAC equipment in the Chicago area. I go up to the lake on most weekends usually arriving on Thursday night. My wife Rory stays up most summers to help with her grandkids who live nearby.
Dean Westlund purchased this Cottage in 1976
Why Dean Westlund chose Coloma charter Township
My father Milt bought this property over 40 years ago when it was just two shack cottages with grass up to your knees. My father and I have spent 40 years rebuilding 'The Westlund Ponderosa' from the ground up to what it is today. We built two additions to 5446 while we rented what we call 'The Stealth Cottage' today. About 25 years ago I took over the 'Stealth' and rebuilt it room by room during the winters. The largest project was gutting the Living room, Kitchen, & Screen Porch and building the Great Room, Kitchen, & Loft we have today. I also converted a one car garage into a Master Bedroom and Bath. We then converted the front Utility room into a bar. My friend Todd and I built a Deck and Patio about 10 years ago. Several years ago we completely rebuilt the Lakefront adding a permanant pier, Large bolder seawall and the bar at the lake. This property has been a labor of love for my father and I. Unfortunately we lost my father several years ago at the ripe old age of 88. My mother passed away this spring so we are renting the Stealth Cottage to be able to keep it in the family. I have taken ownership of it now and am working on catching up with some work on the property. So its a win win in my opinion. I hope to meet new renters who may become friends and come back for years to come and you get to enjoy what is probably the most fun property in all the area!! This property is becoming rare on Paw Paw Lake as the old cottages are being torn down and replaced with giant over $1,000,000 fancy new lake houses but ours is old but rehabbed and rebuilt with 100 year old touches. Think of the TV show Restored.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have the rare combination of land and Paw Paw Lake. Most of the lake residents have small lots without much land. By being just across the road from the lake but with 115 feet on it we were able to aquire 2 + acres of land. So you have lots of room for your family and friends. No worries about parking or storing your boat trailer. All in a historic cottage with all the anemities of a modern house. We have hosted weddings, receptions, pizza partys, graduations, birthday partys, girls & guys weekends out, winery tour weekend, bike tour weekends, and golf weekends, and other events for up to 30 people. We rent for full weeks from Saturday to Saturday in the summer and weekends in the spring, fall, and winter. You will not be disapointed.

a great weekend getaway!
The house was perfect for our needs, very spacious with a cute nautical theme. It had everything we need and enough space for our group of 7 people to relax and enjoy our weekend in Michigan.
Dean was very welcoming and made sure that we had everything that we needed.
we will definitely be returning to the Stealth Cottage soon!
Perfect for family & friends
Our second stay at the Stealth Cottage was just as nice as the first. This time we were there late July/early Aug. The weather was still great and we spent most days sitting in rocking chairs sipping drinks while the kids played in the water or sat at the table playing board games and cards.
We had 3 teenagers, 3 kids under the age of 10, and 4 adults. The cottage was the perfect size with plenty of space.
I've recommended the Stealth Cottage to several friends for a great affordable lake vacation. We're all bummed our schedules don't allow for us to make it this year but I hope to be back next year for some more Molkky tournaments ;)
Thanks for the nice review. We pride ourselves on giving our renters a great time and great memories. We have a 100 year old cottage with all of the charm you remembered on trips you went on back when you were a kid but none of the funkiness. We have replaced all the plumbing, electrical, heating, and air conditioning systems. We have opened up the living room and kitchen into an open concept and added a loft in the old attic. We have also added a master bedroom with a second bathroom in the old one car garage in the back of the house. We have good solid historical furniture in all the bedrooms with newer beds. We added a large deck and patio with all the outdoor furniture you will need. Down by the lake we have added a new bolder seawall to cover an old concrete rubble seawall. We have a nice patio down near the lake and the Rockin Chair Lounge that Stacy mentioned. Our lake frontage is very swimmable with a large sand bottom shallow area near shore and good swimming off the piers. If you like to fish you will enjoy our new fishing pier with a 16'X16' platform so several can fish at the same time or if you fly fish yow will have plenty of room to work your fly. One of the best fishing spot on Paw Paw Lake is right off our pier. Paw Paw Lake is as clear and clean as it has been in my 60 year lifetime of fun on the lake. We have a paddle boat and three kayaks for your use. If the weather is not cooperating you can go to the Party Barn where we have a 8' Brunswick Pool table from the 1960's. We have a Ping Pong Table and bumper pool that has been in our family for 60 years. We have an electronic dart game and Foosball also. Outside we have a regulation grass volleyball court and an area for softball. We enjoy hanging out with our renters if you would like to and we will hang low if you do not want to visit. I will take renters out for a boat ride on occasion and love to pull tubers and water skiers. I am known as the best tube puller on the planet with a system I call "prolonged punishment" where I take you on a long ride right to the edge of wiping you out but not quite getting there. Back and forth over the boat wake at the minimum speed that I can keep the boat planed. Great fun. Stacy we are looking forward to your return in 2019.
Not at all what we expected
Pros: The owner and his wife and her Grand kids were very nice and played great with our Grand kids. The AC worked. It's close to Lake Michigan (which was a vacation saver for us). It has a big yard. We enjoyed playing Foosball and ping pong.
Cons: The description of the cottage and property gave no indication that we would be sharing the yard/property/party barn/lake frontage with four other families. We paid extra for our week since it was the 4th of July and the owner's relatives were kind enough to launch lots of really loud fireworks right in front of the cabin from 11:30 -midnight our first night there (Sat July 1st) without any warning. Would have been fine if they wrapped it up much earlier or at least let us know they were going to do that. We had a long day and were already asleep when they cut loose. The place is small, very dated and a has a goofy layout. The loft was pretty much useless for us since the railing is muffler pipe with huge gaps between the rails. The rails are not very sturdy and not safe for little ones. We had to pile stuff on the steps so our little ones wouldn’t try climbing the stairs. To get to the master bedroom you must go through another bedroom so in our situation we had to go through our daughter and son-in-law’s bedroom. The garbage disposal switch is located on the faux drawer front of the sink cabinet so the kids could easily turn it on. Several times we turned it on by just bumping up against it. A building inspector would have a field day in this place!
The wi-fi is borderline useless. They will wave the cleaning fee if you clean the place at the end of your stay following a check list. Just wish whoever cleaned it before we got there had followed the checklist.
Regarding lake usage: The Stealth cottage is on property that is shared with two other houses owned by the cottage owner and his sister. I’m not sure how common it is but they also had a big camper on the property with relatives visiting. We felt like we were crashing their party...especially by the lake where they have one round picnic table with an umbrella which they used much of the time. To get to the lake, you must cross a very busy road. The speed limit is 35 but most are going faster than that. The property is not good for swimming and has no beach...most of it is a rock retaining wall with a cement ramp which is very slippery. The bottom is firm but not good for little ones which we had several.
Maybe the July 4th week isn't the best week to rent if you don't want a lot of traffic, firework's, and a LOT of people up in every cottage and house on the whole lake including ours. My daughter in law had rented a travel trailer for her family to stay in as our cottage was filled. I have in my listing that I have a RV hookup that is available and has been used by renters in the past. I also clearly state that this is a family complex. And the Stealth Cottage is just that. A cottage. It is 100 years old and I have remodeled it over the last 40 years or so. Yes some of it is dated. It is not a fancy lake house that would cost $4000 per week. But everything works and it has a new furnace, air conditioner, fridge, stove, and microwave. All the plumbing and electrical has been replaced. Both bathrooms have GFI outlets. The disposal is wired with a switch in the face of the base cabinet because it was installed long after the kitchen was remodeled and a wall switch was not installed when the kitchen was originally wired. It is a normal place to install the switch in this instance. I have passed inspection. The stairwell to the loft was built by myself about 30 years ago and the railing is made of heavy duty aluminized steel tailpipe that is custom bent and flared and quadruple through bolted to the framing of the loft. It is plenty sturdy and solid and has been untouched for thirty years. The flare fitting in the middle of the stairway was a little wobbly but strong enough to hold 500 pounds and has been repaired. I do not recommend the loft for infants and toddlers but school age children to adults for 30 years have loved having a bed to crash out in. The master bedroom is located in what was the garage when we bought the property. You can enter it through one of the bedrooms but it also has a back door on the patio that you can use when needed. If we had guests we would walk out the back door and enter the house through the front door so you don't HAVE to bother the people in the walk through room to get our Coffee and get ready for breakfast. It is not a problem. The Stealth Cottage has great views of Paw Paw Lake, plenty of parking, and lots of fun down at the lake and in the Party Barn. We have been swimming off the pier for ever. We have a ladder on the pier and the rock seawall is easy to climb. The bottom is a little soft but it is very nice for Paw Paw Lake. Next to the shore it is very shallow and great for kids. Not if they are whiny I guess.
Stealth Cottage on Paw Paw lake
Had a great stay in the cottage, I was actually there in the off season but had a great time. Charming little town with plenty of places to eat and get groceries and such. Descent size city just a few miles away as well for your movies, big chain restaurants, Best Buy, etc. The owner Dean was extremely helpful and even extended my stay for a few days. Awesome cottage for the entire extended family to enjoy. Thanks again Dean for the hospitality.......
Thanks for the long term rental while you were working at the Palisade's Park Nuclear Power Plant. We always are looking for off season long term renters in the winter, late fall, and early spring. It is much better than a Motel for you're group and you saved a bunch of money and I got a long winter rental at $1,300.00 a month or so. A win win for all. So if you are working temporary in the area in the off season give me a try.
Amazing property and host
We would definitely rent again!
Pam is a relocation specialist who puts up people for insurance company's when their house is uninhabitable due to a fire or flood. Their client's stayed with us from December 1st till early April (extending several times) as their contractor fixed their house after a fire. My joke is that I have resorted to setting fires to get a winter rental. LOL. So if you need a long term rental of a fully furnished home give me a call. Especially if the insurance company is paying.
Very nice vacation getaway on the lake!
Property was very nice, clean, very well maintained, lots of bedrooms and space. The party bar by the water is a lot of fun. We didn't get a chance to use the party barn/game room so can't say about that. Owner was very nice and very accommodating, let us arrive early and leave late. There is a fun bar a 10 minute walk down the road with karaoke on the weekends, and a beer/liquor store about 5 minutes walk. A few notes: if you have a large group with adults, be advised the loft sleeping area is very tight, especially for taller/larger individuals. Also, the pictures are a bit misleading - there is actually a busy road between the house and the lake. Not a big deal, but if you have kids may be an issue. Overall very nice, enjoyed our stay.
We enjoyed having your group up and were glad you had a great time. It looked like you were having fun at the lake with the nice fire. Our loft was wedged into a 25' x 25' attic with a 6/12 pitch roof so the headroom in the middle is about 5'8". So watch your head when you are up there. As for Paw Paw Lake Road. It is the main road around the lake but it is not a county highway and has very little truck traffic. It is a 2 lane road with a bike lane on both sides. It is not real busy but I have had to wait for several cars or Harley's to pass from time to time. It does not show up on the pictures because it is lower than the front yard and you don't see it from the cottage to much.
