1-bedroom 1.5-bath cottage mixes contemporary amenities with fine craftsmanship
About Shannon McCauley
My wife and I just completed this house for our use together with our friends. We've spared nothing in detailing the building and we love the feel of it. We love the area- the mountains and beach- the hiking and the stars- it's a great get-away!
Shannon McCauley purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Shannon McCauley chose Stinson Beach
This particular property has a unique relationship with the hills and ocean. It's within walking distance of two of our favorite trails in West Marin- Steep Ravine and the Dipsea Trail-It's close to the restaurants of the village and it's right next to the beach.
What makes this Cottage unique
We've really spent time on personalizing the cottage- from creating vibrant color palettes that remind us of a certain freedom that exists at the beach, to carefully considered choices on tile, wood and lighting. For us it represents a range of decisions that is well suited to us and reinforces the feeling of being happy to be at the beach.

August holiday in Stinson
Nice compact unit with easy access to the beach. Perfect for 2. Lots of windows for cross breeze. Kitchen has all the basics and local market is well stocked. Sleeper couch mattress not that comfy but the bed in lower level basement was fine. Owner provides an overabundance of rules in a tidy manual. We can tell they put a lot of work in to giving good guidance but it kind of made us anxious that we would miss something and fall short of their expectations. In the end, we felt we took great care of their home and did get our deposit in full returned.
Great location. Perfect for two people, not five.
Clean and well maintained. Just needs a few things:
Some comfortable outdoor furniture
Linens for the pullout couches
Dish rack (stuff like that)
For the price I would like some nice bath towels
Thank You to the owner for letting us check in early. Much appreciated.
Hi there. The teak furniture is very high quality and a perfect fit for the conditions near the coast. There are linens for the pull-out sofa's in the upstairs closet including a luxury mattress topper. We always appreciate your feedback. I also always encourage guests to directly ask me questions that come up during your stay. We appreciate your booking with us and hope that you can come back!
Perfect long weekend getaway!
This is an unusual but very sweet property with a great location, right near the beach and a ten minute walk into town. The eco-design features are very much appreciated and the owners have made a small space feel much bigger than it really is. For us, the ground floor bed and bath with separate entrance and exterior staircase was a nice plus because of the privacy it afforded to the couple in our group. The floor plan might not work for everyone, but it was super for us. The one full bath had to be shared for showers, but that was ok. The half bath upstairs was fine. For the person using the foldout couch upstairs (which happened to be me) the bedding was not optimal--the couch is not very comfy. Be sure to read your confirm from top to bottom (which I failed to do) because it asks for additional info that the owner needs to finalize arrangements. She is very nice!
A 3 min walk to the beach and a lovely modern home.
This property was very nice, however for us it was not the best because we were 4 adults and my 4 year old grandson. The property would be very good for adults with children who do not need supervision.
The bedroom is on the ground floor, with an outside staircase. The outside staircase was on the photo, but in person the two parts of the house were more remote than they looked on the photos.
Also the single bed pull out was very lumpy, kind of like sleeping on a box springs. We could not sleep on it, but we figured out a solution, so we were fine.
The location was very nice; 3-min walk to the beach and 10-min walk along the beach to the town. The town is so cute.
We ended up driving to Bolinas to surf because the waves near the house were not good for surfing, so if someone is hoping to walk to surf that is unlikely.
The water limitations were a bit daunting, 100 gallons a day felt very tight, even to me who is a 64 year old life long Californian and has lived through several droughts. We did not do laundry and avoided showering, instead taking sponge baths.
Cozy yet spacious steps from the beach
Taking my kids for a mid-week Staycation to this Stinson Beach house was a great getaway. The location was amazing and the house was very comfortable and well appointed. We loved it
Great location, we will definitely rent again!
The location is a charming beach community arranged along a three mile sand spit on the Pacific ocean at the foot of a beautiful range of coastal hills. The site is located about 15 minutes from Muir Woods and five minutes from the Audubon Ranch Bird Sanctuary. The Bolinas Lagoon is nearby with famous seal outhauls and a stunning array of birds.
