The Bay Area Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1-bedroom 2-bath cottage mixes contemporary amenities with fine craftsmanship

This superb new cottage at Stinson Beach is a splendid retreat for small families with children or for two couples. The detailed design by architect Mark Hulbert (Preservation Architecture) features radiant heat, natural trims, travertine floors and vibrant interior finishes- it’s ready for you to walk in and enjoy. Less than 200 hundred feet from the beach, the house features beautiful views of the coastal mountains, partial views of the ocean and is surrounded by gardens, decks and balconies. A covered exterior stairs connect the upstairs living area with the downstairs bedroom, adding to the indoor/outdoor feel of the beach cottage. The house is brand new and about as green as they come- compact and efficient. With radiant heat, a solar array, and LED lighting, we can’t consume much less energy. Yet the house is outfitted with the kind of conveniences we all need: satellite television service, HD TV, WIFI, blue ray disc player, and many games- so there’ll be plenty for you and your family to do. Whether it’s sports, movies or internet, it’s there.

We have direct beach access (right next door) and some of the toys you need at the beach including surfboard, portable BBQ and beach chairs for a great day at the beach. If hiking is your thing, we’re a short ten minute walk from the Dipsea Trail and Steep Ravine- two of the most stunning trails on the west coast. If you’re like us and food is a major part of your weekend, you'll enjoy our kitchen. The house is set up with linens and towels. We ask you to be very careful with your use of water, as the extreme drought has forced mandatory water rationing by the Stinson Beach Water District.

About Bruce Helmberger or Shannon McCauley

My wife and I just completed this house for our use together with our friends. We've spared nothing in detailing the building and we love the feel of it. We love the area- the mountains and beach- the hiking and the stars- it's a great get-away!

Bruce Helmberger or Shannon McCauley purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Bruce Helmberger or Shannon McCauley chose The Bay Area

This particular property has a unique relationship with the hills and ocean. It's within walking distance of two of our favorite trails in West Marin- Steep Ravine and the Dipsea Trail-It's close to the restaurants of the village and it's right next to the beach.

What makes this cottage unique

We've really spent time on personalizing the cottage- from creating vibrant color palettes that remind us of a certain freedom that exists at the beach, to carefully considered choices on tile, wood and lighting. For us it represents a range of decisions that is well suited to us and reinforces the feeling of being happy to be at the beach.

Newly Built Cottage Steps from Beach

  • 5 of 5

This is a great rental, just steps from the beach. The bed is very comfortable as is the pull out double couch bed. The kitchen was well outfitted and we were able to cook everything we wanted to.

One thing to note for people with small kids, the bedroom is downstairs from the living/kitchen area and the stairs that connect them are outside - this wasn't a problem for us but if we had little kids, it might have been.

Thanks for a great stay!

Terrific house and location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend here, and it was perfect. Located in a cul de sac and steps from the beach, it was also an easy walk into town. The house design is interesting, and the upper level living area is spacious and well laid out. The furnishings are excellent quality, very comfortable and attractive (some vacation rentals can feel like they are furnished with castoffs, but not this one!). And the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots, etc., all (again) of very good quality. The lower level bedroom is comfortable, and the bathroom is modern and attractive. The description on the site is accurate, and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

weird architecture but nice

  • 4 of 5

the bedroom is on the ground floor behind the garage. The upper floor is the kitchen, dining, and living room. You have to use an outside stairway between the too. The arrange was not that comfortable.

A very short walk to the beach but no ocean view from the house.

The house is relatively new and very well-maintained. Good lighting and heating. Not really cozy but nicely done.

complaints: the sing in the downstairs bathroom is a shallow joke. It is not even deep enough to immerse your hands or rinse a razor. You have to leave the tap running which is a shame in this water shortage.

nice brand new beach house. Clean.

  • 4 of 5

Well situated beach house, near the beach, and not too far from town, where you can walk down for food, or stumble home from the sand dollar. Bed Downstairs very comfortable, but pull out beds upstairs only suitable for kids, who can sleep anywhere, cause they aren't very comfortable. Pads should be provided because you can feel the springs. Also, a little annoyed that you had to put away your own dishes before you left. But, I'm sure that's just me. Worth the stay, especially for a couple. I was with 2 kids.

Owner's Response: Hi Don, I appreciate your review. I have taken steps to modify the policy with regards to putting the dishes away. Leaving them in the running dishwasher seems like a good idea! We do provide a down mattress cover in the linen closet next to the sofa. The bed will not fold up properly with this on it. I will add this information to the handbook so that guests know it is their, my apologize! Thank you so much for booking with us and we do hope that you will enjoy our home again! Shannon
