About Tom H Engel
Tom is a Solar Field Service Engineer for Positive Energy Solar in Santa Fe. This is the biggest project yet - a 3200 square foot active and passive solar house with solar radiant heat and solar hot water. The eight acres will be developed into a working organic farm and permaculture food forest. If you have interest in energy or food sustainability, I will be glad to give you that tour of the house and grounds.

Why Tom H Engel chose Chimayo
After living south of Santa Fe for five years, Tom looked around for a place that might allow for a large hobby farm. When I saw Paradise Pond, that was it. Perfectly located in a traditional acequia village that still operates in the traditional way of the local people digging the acequias by hand each year and creating community and distributing water through the work of the local people - no fossil fuels required. Throughout the world there are few viable acequias left. Some of the best are in Northern New Mexico. Tom is thrilled to have found such a unique and beautiful spot and want to share it with others.
What makes this Guest House unique
This house and property was developed in 1997 by Frances Harwood, a well known local anthropologist and solar pioneer. She lived here completely off grid - but this isn't your usual conception of an off grid house. She combined abundance, elegance and beauty with ecological nature-based solutions to create an oasis of beauty that also provides own energy and water. She founded Ecoversity in Santa Fe and was a true visionary in eco living. Her untimely death in 2004 for a while left her vision behind. I want to honor what she started and have felt that her vision was in kindred spirits with my own. In the Santa Fe tradition, her work does live on and I am enjoying discovering all the wonders of her life's work through this land and this house. Since I only have the one vacation rental, I can provide the service you want to make your vacation ideal for you. If you need quiet and privacy, that's what you will get. If you prefer someone to help you plan your day, I can do that too. Let me know if you need something unique - this is a unique place and you deserve some individual attention.

Our Chimayo Visit
Great location (pond and wildlife) and within reasonable driving distances to other cities/attractions. Good experience and access to locals.
Thanks for the great review Jay. Please come back and see me again.
Wonderful Casita at Paradise Pond, Chimayo
The Casita is a wonderful, charming place to stay. Also it sits an Paradise Pond, where we watched Malard ducklings and Canadian Gosling swim in the pond and visit our patio. Beaver, turtles and frogs seam and floated. A perfect place to relate and great location from which to explore New Mexico. Made even better by the helpful, charming and friendly owners! We had a truly wonderful time and definitely will return.

Perfect for our small family
Great place to enjoy nature with our five year old. The pond always had something going on and the hiking trails behind the property were awesome. Quiet spot, but less than an hour drive to all sorts of northern New Mexico adventures! We would definitely stay here again.
Lovely peaceful place
We enjoyed our stay. The casita is nicely decorated and the pond is beautiful - especially if you like birdwatching. The radiant heating in the floor kept the place evenly heated and comfortable during the cold weather. There are a lot of great places to explore nearby.
beautiful property, beautiful location; great place to un-plug.
This property is centrally located between Santa Fe and Taos. We made it our "base" for our week stay. You could sit on the small patio and "chill" like on a cruise, watching the ducks and ever changing sky over your "private" pond or drive to the many near by destinations.
Centrally located between Santa Fe and Taos just off the High Road to Taos Scenic By-way - Highway 503. Driving times to Santa Fe - 40 minutes, Taos - 60 minutes, Los Alamos - 30 minutes, Espanola - 20 minutes, Ojos Caliente - 45 minutes. Many local attractions are within 45 minutes driving time - ruins, parks, Indian festivals, Nambe falls and lake, Santa Cruz lake, fishing, skiing, hiking, scenic drives, it is the heart of Northern New Mexico.
