The Old Bakery is a traditional ‘fermette’ situated in a small village with the river Raye running through it. It is surrounded by a large garden on a no through road. It has a spacious farmhouse kitchen with large dining table with enough room for 8 to sit comfortably around it. The lounge has a large open fireplace built of local stone and French windows opening onto a patio area. The house is set within spacious gardens which offer plenty of sunny and shaded spots. The large, south facing patio to the rear of the property makes an ideal area for al fresco dining.
There is a mini market and chemist approx 2 kms away in the village of Le Boisle. The pretty market town of Hesdin is about 10 mins drive and has all the supermarkets and shops you would need. There are plenty of bistro’s and places to eat, and Thursday is market day, when the town is busy and bustling with visitors and locals alike all buying their local produce
We bought this house in 2008 as a peaceful retreat for our family, to have quality family time away from the stresses of modern life.

We loved this property from the first time we saw it on the Internet. It is in such a peaceful location in a lovely little village. We love spending time there, where our kids don't have all the distractions of home. We have spent lots of time playing board games and on the games tables with them and watching films together. It's just like a good old fashioned childhood!
This really is a 'get away from it all' experience. Even if you only spend a couple of nights there, you will come away feeling like you have had a holiday!
We had a lovely stay at the old bakery, the house is nice and well equiped and the front and back yard are very enjoyable for all the family. The children had lots of fun with all the games, ping pong, air hockey, badmington, just to name a few !
I recommend it without hesitation, we had a great time :)
What a great place. Large grounds so kids just ran around and tired themselves out. We enjoyed BBQ evening meals and French wine on the patio.
Loved it, thanks
We stayed here for two nights and it was a fantastic place to have a very relaxing holiday. There is lot of space in the house and the garden and perfect for a family holiday, with children. The village where this house located is very peaceful and situated within easy drive from Calais. The owners were very responsive to our queries from the start of the process. We probably will consider this holiday home for another longer holiday again.
We found the house to be in a very tranquil setting. Having such a nice garden added to the enjoyment. As we had a mix of weather we were very glad of the wood burner to make our evenings cosy. It is a very convenient base from which to explore the Somme coastal area. We appreciated Diana's friendly visits .We would certainly like to visit the Old Bakery again.
There were 6 adults in our group. Plenty of room both in the house and in the garden (the only issue was that we could have done with a 2nd toilet/shower). The house was clean and tidy, with everything we needed. The village is quiet, and it was nice to play boules on the village green with some local lads.
We were in need of time to chill out and relax, so we enjoyed late breakfasts in the house (after a visit to the many boulangerie's nearby); a trip out with a slow lunch in a brasserie in one of the towns in easy reach; then either some time on the beach, rummaging around a market, wandering around a historic town or just going for a walk.
We did a trip to Boulogne and thought the aquarium an excellent destination. Fort Mahon was a great beach, and we enjoyed St. Valerie.
The restaurant in Doritz was interesting and we enjoyed both our visits. The information given to us prior to arrival (and with copies in the house) helped to plan what we lazily wanted to do.
Would definitely recommend this property to a friend or family member, and given it's easy reach from Calais, we could see us returning for some more "re-charging of the soul" at a future date.
Raye Sur Authie is a small village set in the picturesque 7 valleys region of Pas-de-Calais. The nearest town is Hesdin which is a traditional market town with a cobbled market square, and plenty of bistro’s and shops. The largely unspoilt coast is within 40mins drive and includes Le Touquet, Fort Mahon, St Valery-sur-Somme and Le Crotoy. The war graves are all accessible for those interested in the history of the wars, and there are several towns of architectural interest within easy reach, such as: Montreuil-sur-Mer and Arras.
Other activities available include; water parks, (AquaLud, Aquaclub de Belle Dune) theme parks (Bagatelle, Denly’s, Eurodisney, Parc Asterix), golf courses, horse riding, go Karting.
There is also a new swimming pool with indoor and outdoor heated pool open in Hesdin which also has a 6 lane ten pin bowling facility. Very reasonably priced.
